Eating Like A Bird
fericito replied to sandy.lyons's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It IS going to dip there - don't give up. I know it's hard but please please try not to compare yourself to anyone else's loss - some of those had liquid diets (myself) and I think that is a big part of the loss but there's so much to compare also - maybe they were heavier so they lost faster? Maybe the only lived on liquid? Give it some time and give yourself a break if you can... I know that's hard. And be sure to post when you DO get there because I know you will . -
Ashley I believe you can and you WILL!

Anyone Still Doing Atkins Ir Southbeach??!!
fericito replied to Tahneesamson's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
LOL I felt the same way - I drink milk like it's going out of style. When I first started paleo I felt like crap too, probably just withdrawal. I'm currently trying to live an 80% lifestyle and it's worked ok. I know the band will help with it even more and I think life isn't life without something we love, I just need to learn to have less of it . Atkins might be a great fit for you! -
I just read something similar in the forum and I'm starting to think this is common - you're feelings are very valid. We've all probably got unhealthy relationships with food and just think, now that's gone from you. In the past maybe you (like me) turned to food for comfort? And you can't do that. Is there something else you could find to cheer yourself up? Get a manicure, go for a gorgeous walk, watch a comedy show? Don't give up and also allow yourself to feel - there are stages to grief so there have to be something like that for letting og of something we love like food. I'm sorry you're hurting. Hang in there.

Just wanted to add I don't think you will fail. Look what you've already done for yourself. Good luck getting through this hard part and keep up the good work. Believe in yourself!

I just wanted to say I hope you find a moment or too of it RIGHT THIS MINUTE because you inspired me. Don't give up. You sound like you've done (and continue to do) amazing and hard things and I think that's awesome! Hang in there.

Anyone Still Doing Atkins Ir Southbeach??!!
fericito replied to Tahneesamson's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm not doing one of thsoe BUT if you haven't heard of it you might check out the paleo diet (caveman diet) whcih is similar to the zone diet. I plan to continue that one after my lap band surgery and I have found more success with paleo than anything I've tried. Pretty restrictive but some great websites out there and it's basically protein, fruits, veggies. I liked it a little better than atkins or southbeach because you get more fruits and veggies BUT no dairy. Just an idea. Good luck!! -
I haven't been banded yet but I did want to answer your question (my surgery date is June 29th). Where did you get the ideas for your goals? I don't mean that rudely, I'm curious. Did you look into gastric bypass or what makes you chose the numbers/time frame you do? I ask because I went to many seminars and studied for a good year before I chose this route. I am deliberately doing the band because I've had friends/family do both and those that banded lost a LOT slower BUT seem to have way less saggy skin and after a few years they are nearly the same as the bypassers. Did they talk about that in your seminars? I too would love to be 100 lbs lighter in a year (my secret never really allow myself to say it or think it goal) but at the same time I know that's probably not really likely and even if it is, that's about 2 poudns a week which would be 8 pounds a month. I just worry you're setting yourself up for disappointment if you don't meet your goal or some illness or bad habits if you do. I find all the success stories on this site very encouraging and I like looking at those that are a few years out and many have lost more than 100 lbs or half their weight and I think they sound like they're doing great. I hope things work out well for you and that you have an end result that pleases you. As to the original poster Tricia - congrats!!

One Month Post Op But Very Minimal Weight Loss
fericito replied to lilac025's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like that you said that. I own one but I DO NOT let myself weigh myself more than once a month. If you look and feel good it doesn't matter as much what you weigh, right? -
Anyone Bandsters who are also into CrossFit?

Did that continue to be a problem for you or did it get better? -

Is your name Jack? Jack, thanks for your response. (I'm Tara btw) I won't be talking to my surgeon until the last week of June but thanks for the great ideas and I'll be sure to address them and see what he says. I'm curious if it's not to rude of me to ask what your box charges - I pay $100 monthly which about killed me at first but now I'm just used to it. However there are other boxes around my city (3 to be exact) popping up and they seem a lot cheaper. I'd consider changing just for $$ but I have had such great support and friends at this one that I hate to leave. However, I have only told one trainer why I'm taking a few months off. Other than him and my husband I haven't told a soul about the surgery. Does your box know about you and the other guy? Do they seem supportive? Mine seemed disappointed that I wasn't giving Paleo a better try (I did 3 full months with no mistakes and lost 20 lbs but it was so just hard wah wah wah). I wish I knew better what to expect when I go back. I've always had to modify my exervised since I can't even do a pushup or pullup but I'm hoping with weight loss and the band that I'll some time weight less enough that I can gain the muscle to do those things. I am so glad to hear about your success - both with CrossFit and with lap band. I feel a little lonely and like this isn't the "exercise worlds" version but neither is being the fat chick. One reason I've loved CrossFit is they've never seemed to judge me - until now when I'm taking a break - I feel like I'm letting everyone down. Sorry to put that all out there just musing... -
No advice as I'm not there yet but wanted to hear what others have to say. Congrats on a week in!

As a newbie myself I loved reading this! What hope you're spreading and you just sound so happy. FABULOUS!!
-
Do they have any other options you can consider? Do you think you've learned enough along the way that you can keep up the good habits? I know you can find a way to get through this - I'm just sorry for your struggle. Don't give up!! Best of luck to you.

Pedicure? Manicure? New hairstyle? New outfit? Day out doing something you couldn't do before like a roller coaster or a hike or something? You've just inspired me to try to come up with some ideas myself for mini goals along the way - 50 lbs is amazing! Glad you're going to celebrate - and let us know what you come up with .

Yippee!! That's gotta feel so good. Way to go and keep up the good work!

One Month Post Op But Very Minimal Weight Loss
fericito replied to lilac025's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know what to tell you other than that I really feel it's gotta be about more than just the numbers. You've lost 11 pounds right? For one month that seems amazing to me!! I picked lap band over gastric for one reason because I didn't want to lose too fast - were you expecting something different? I hope you don't get too discouraged becasue if you're doing what the drs said then you're doing it all right! Hang in there - everyone's experience is bound to be a little bit different. Have you tried a new exercise program or something different with foods that could stir things up and maybe help? best of luck to you! -
To Those Of You Considering Surgery
fericito replied to James _Perkins15's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a question, has your dr. or anyone else's given them specific foods they can't ever have again? I figure junk food and soda etc will be no-nos but what about "regular" foods? My one banded friend can't seem to eat any bread, pasta, etc. at all or she gets plugged... -
To Those Of You Considering Surgery
fericito replied to James _Perkins15's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
where do you live? One of the drs I went to a seminar on sounded like he had a great one but I am going with another dr. but wish he had a good one. Maybe you could start one? I'm in Utah and would have no idea how to start something like that lol but would love it if someone did! -
Hey I'd love someone else to visit with! How are you feeling so far about things?
-
First off a great big virtual hug. I am so glad you posted so that others like me could hear what you're going through. Your current experince is one of my fears about the surgery. If I don't have food, what do I have? I think you're entitled to feel that way and maybe it is a form of depression - letting go of something you loved for so long. So my 2 cents is have a 5 mnute or so pity party and then do just what you said - get on with your life. There's got to be all kinds of stages to this and sounds like you're going through a sad one. I'm sorry that's hard - but I'm also really proud of you and glad you're not suffering in some of the other ways. Hang in there!! You're strong enough I know you are.
