3 Years Post Op And Have Gained Back Most Of My Weight
BOB052212 replied to laurasweetlo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The choice is yours, I feel your pain, I had the bypass and gained all but 40 pounds back, just had the lap band at 270 pounds, however when o was going through the approval process, I realized that band or no band that this body of MINE is MY RESPONSIBILITY! From March 3 til my final appt. With my surgeon I demanded from myself to start eating healthy, and to SAVE MY OWN LIFE! I am happy to report that I went from 291 to 271 in less than 2 months and this was prior to my pre op diet for the lap band. I stopped fast food, eating out, and did 5 servings of fruit and 4 veggies a day, BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, YOU MUST GO BACK TO THE BASICS, LEAN PROTEIN FIRST! From my experience Me and my first surgery failed each other, you have to take responsibility for why you are where you are! If we that have gained weight back be honest our habits drastically changed from when we first lost the weight! Change your habits, if your band is now positioned correctly, go get your fills and save your life! I wish you luck, YOU CAN DO IT! -
I was banded 8 days ago, ive progressed to soft/mushie foods. I am a band over bypass bandster and know how it feels to lose 100 pounds and gain 50 back! So this go round I am determined to work with my tool/lap band and do my part. With that being said im not giving the band an opportunity to fail me, I had the surgery really as a back up plan but knew the battle of the bulge boiled down to me defeating it! Dont get me wrong I am not discounting the band but at the end of the days its up to us to make sure we reach our goals. I will periodically post things that are helping me along my journey. For those of you who have smart phones I HIGHLY RECOMMEND an app I downloaded last night, its called MyFitnessPal it allows you to keep track of what you consume everyday, and automatically gives the calories and nutritional facts. Once you put in your weight, height, age....It will tell you what your daily calories should be. Due to being banded our calorie intake should be lower, it told me by the end of the day I should be consuming 1900 calories, I went ahead and changed it to 1000 and for today I was actually short 90 calories for the day which put me at 910 calories for the day, it also allows you to keep track of exercise and water intake!

Your welcome lose 100, for me it was just getting started, once I started back at the gym, I remembered how good I feel when im done working out, just remember to stay hydrated while your working out! Good luck on your weight loss success, failure is not an option! -
I just peeked into the excercise and fitness section and noticed far less post than in the post op section. Most of us who had the band were not exactly what you call gym gurus before we were banded, hence we gained weight which pushed us into morbid obesity! Im saying this in the most non judgmental way possible WE MUST EXERCISE! I know some have never even entered a gym, thats ok, there is still time to join, if not at least power walk/jog for 30 minutes a day. This post was as much for me as it is for those who are struggling with excercising! Good Luck and lets continue to encourage each other in this area!

Jim, im 265 & it put me at 1900, I feel that's way to much for me, just put it at a number that is realist for you honestly with excercise you should be anywhere from 1000 to 2000, if you have a day higher than what your calories are that day.just try to increase your exercise for that day....Good luck!

6 Days Out Feeling Great!
BOB052212 replied to BOB052212's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The nutritionist at my surgeons office said a week clear and a 2 weeks full, my surgeon on the other hand when reiterated what my nutritionist said stated try to follow it, but you can try some soft things a little earlier, so I did, just be careful, and eat very very slowly, also I chew until its basically liquified. Just let your body be the judge if it hurts stop eating it, as far as tuna, I due the bumble bee prime fillet (gold can) target has the best price, and I only use honey mustard, if u gotta have mayo use the hellmans with olive oil very lowfat and half the calories, honey mustard sound gross but its great, be sure to use french's honey mustard, not the salad dressing honey mustard, that stuff is a zillion calories, my personal favorite, is shoprite brand honey mustard, if there is shoprite grocery chain in your area get that brand, there both only 10 calories a serving. This is what has worked for me, BY ALL MEANS, follow what your team instructed you to do, If you find yourself skipping ahead dont go overboard, low fat, high protein is still what we should be reaching for no matter what! -

Dee, I agree with you, its very accurate!

Jim, your correct about the protein, as far as the accuracy, thus far its been very accurate, I do a gnc 100% whey protein shake every morning, I typed in gnc whey ....and it gave me different gnc protein shake powders, I chose the one that I knew was what I use which is the 100 calorie 20 grams of protein shake, I also typed in oikos greek yogurt and pulled it right up with the accurate nutritional facts, it also gives alot of options, I was on the road yesterday and was starving, so I pulled into KFC and ordered the crispy chicken snacker, withhout sauce and threw the bun away, typed kfc snacker in and it gave me an option whether I had bread or no bread, sauce or no sauce... I set it 1000 calories for now, it recommends at least 1200 for a man, once im on full solids I may increase it, but as far as the calories, just change it to a realistic number for you! Hope this helps, oh I didn't really fool with the fat since most things I eat are fat free, the only thing I had yesterday that had more than 2 grams of fat was the chicken from KFC. Good Luck!

Nicole my post was for those of us who are not being as diligent as we should. Kudos to you and your workout regiment, however its not as easy for some of us. My post are always to motivate, and uplift people who are determined to reach their weight loss goals, never to put anyone down! My post wasn't really for the people who have it all together as far as working out, but for those of US who are trying to get where you are. -

Travel After Surgery?
BOB052212 replied to erin313's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 5 days ago and I am traveling today, just 2.5 hours though, I think you should be ok, just try to stop every hour or so to move around, also take it easy the days prior to your travel, and by all means take your pain meds with you. Good Luck -

Not Losing Any Weight On Lapband Starting To Feel Discouraged
BOB052212 replied to Yolanda Swing-banks's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One other thing to consider is the type of workout you are doing. I have been every size over the last 6 years, lost 100 pounds from gastric bypass, gained 70 back, was recently banded pre and post op ive already lost 25 pounds. I said that to say this at every weight the trainer at the gym told me to do weights first cardio second, ive learned that to lose the initial weight its best to do all cardio, incorporate strength training a lil later but 45 minutes of cardio plus 64 ounces of water a day will definitely assist you in breaking your plateau -
Thanks for the heads up, im scheduled to have my first fill on June 13 I plan on having it either way!
-
I was banded on May 22, 2012. My Dr. has me on clears but said I could try mushies a few days early if my body would tolerate them. I have tried cream of wheat, and mashed potatoes and am pleased that I have restriction already! I am a Band over bypass patient, not sure if thats the reason but regardless restriction without a fill has me very excited, and has reinforced my belief that the b.o.b. Was the right decision for me! Current Weight 265... Goal 175...Im on my way...

Restriction Question
BOB052212 replied to litl1997's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded in 5.22.12, today I had a serving of cream of wheat about 9am and still full at this very moment. Of course I have not had a full as of yet, but intend to get the fill as soon as I am allowed. I would get the first one and decide on any future fills after that! I kinda think alot has to do with which band they use, there are two, one is smaller than the other, my surgeon told me he used the smaller of the two on me. -
I am a new bandster, my opinion is just that my opinion. I have not had a fill yet but have restriction already. Im trying to think ahead and put myself in your shoes. I would take into consideration your current weight. Are you near goal? If not maybe you should try to start from scratch with clears, mushies, then solids. Take lil bites, and chew like there is no tomorrow. I would also do a protein shake in the am to make sure u are meeting your nutritional needs. As stated before I have not had a fill yet, so my thoughts may be easier said than done. Regardless hope things improve for you!
