I have always been a big guy. I was pretty much in shape thru school because of football and track. In 2001 my wife had my son. At the time I was playing semi-pro football and I quit because I didn't want to be away if she happened to go into labor. Thats when I really started to put on the weight. from then to now I hovered around 300lbs. I'll say between 295-310. I don't feel that I look bad physically but this is alot of weight to carry around. I want to be healthier. I want to live longer than my dad did. I want to be able to buy smaller clothes and free up some space in my closet. My wife had Gastric bybass last June 2011. She did really well with it. She asked if I had considered surgery. I told her that I have no problem losing the weight. I would just work out and do it myself. which I did. however the weight came creeping right on back. When my birthday came around this year 2012 I realized that Im not getting any younger. I thought to myself, My wife did well with the surgery, and so I made an appt to see the dr to inquire about the lap band. After talking to him I started to consider the sleeve which he also pitched the idea to me also. so later that week I called my case worker and told her that Im going to do the sleeve. I went to all my appts from the nutritionist, to the psycologist, and the seminars. and even joined VST, which I love because the ppl here are great and all the questions I had were answered. So here I am 10 days from my surgery date and Im nervous, anxious, excited, and I think Im ready...
