Awesome!!! Congrats!!! Glad everything worked out with insurance. Hopefully your surgery will be scheduled soon.

Hi Denalisa, Welcome!!! I'm getting sleved myself on June 13th and like you I have started feeling the excitement (and a little nervousness). I can't wait to be on the other side and start losing the weight. Best of luck to you on your journey!!! I had the same feelings as you when I told my mother but to my suprise she was VERY happy that i had made the decision.

Please Please Please let me loose 5 pounds a week after I have surgery. If you ask me that is pretty life changing. I said it in an earlier post today but I'll say it again... if you think you are disappointed by how much weight you are losing, just step into any gym and start telling people that you ONLY lose 5lbs a week and see if anyone feels bad for you. My guess is that most people that are spending their time in the gym would die to lose 5lbs a week. Sounds like you are doing GREAT!!! I would say keep it up and remember not to compare yourself with others. Everyone's body is a little different but the rate you are losing is nothing to be upset at. Lose to quickly and you'll end up with a ton of loose skin.

Sleeved Three Days Post Op
Gene1970 replied to Lisa's Hope's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's great to see the concern that this community has for one another. I was Very impressed that Kathy posted asking how you were doing Lisa. I'm so glad I found this community and hope others feel the same way. I think Kathy hit the nail on the head... Lots of walking and lots of little sips. Seems like that's the theme of a lot of posts. Hope you start feeling better VERY soon!!!!! -
good point on the drainage. I have horrible sinus issues, so if that's the case then I'm sure I will experience the same thing right away. I'll be sure to report back if so. Doesn't sound fun though, I hate gagging.
-
I would imagine it will return to normal. I haven't read any other posts on the site about people having an increased gag reflex. Did you have a hiatal hernia fixed with the surgery? I could see that being a contributing factor. I would just give it time and it the mean time use a lot of listerine ... that stuff will burn just about anything out of your mouth.. LOL.

Srry If Its Random...i'm Just Really Annoyed!
Gene1970 replied to Sandra_Baby87's topic in The Gals' Room
Absolutely agree with Wheetsin... speaking as a man... we are NOT born with crystal balls nor do we always get subtle hints. It could be that he thought that you wouldn't even be interested since you are 2 weeks post op. I personally would be worried about it 2 weeks post op and would probably think the response I would get would be something close to "Seriously... I JUST had surgery". -
Today Is My Day...nervous Wreck But Excited

Congrats and good luck. You will find a lot of great support here. -
did you have a bad gag reflex prior to surgery and this made it worse? I'm curious to hear the responses to your question. I have a bad gag reflex already, brushing my tongue is out of the question... makes me gag just thinking about it.
-
I think that is pretty typical of any abdominal surgery. It won't be long and you will be back to sleeping on your side.
-
Sounds like you are doing great!!! Hope my recovery is as smooth as yours.

28 pounds is great... that's 2 lbs a week since the surgery. Talk to ANYONE who is trying to loose weight without having the surgery and ask them if they would be happy with losing 2 pounds a week. They would be thrilled to have those results. My old Dr. wanted me to loose at a rate of a 1/2 pound a week. Most any other dr will say 1 -2 pounds. At that rate you will have lost all of your weight within the next year. Think about that... you will have lost all of your excess weight within a year and a half. How long did it take to get to your pre-op weight? I guarantee you didn't get there in a year and a half. Getting back to a healthy weight in that short of a time should be looked at as something amazing. I think you need to really think about what you have accomplished and put some perspective on the situation. You want to confirm that you are doing great, just go into a Gym and tell everyone that you are ONLY losing 2lbs a week and see how many people feel sorry for you and how many people want to smack you because they stuggle to get one pound off a week.

I can only imagine that it's very frustrating. I am having the surgery on June 13th and know that I'll probably experience times where my body does the same thing. I think it's good to remember that we didn't gain all of the weight overnight, so it's going to take time to get it all off which is a benefit to us anyway since it allows time for our body to adjust. Hang in there, I'm sure you will be dropping pounds again soon. Have you tried increasing your protien intake? Gene

My surgeon also uses a 34 french on everyone. He said that studies have show there is a higher risk of complications if you go smaller than that. He said the 34 seems to work for everyone and has the best success long term.
-
It will be here and over before you know it. Congrats. My surgery isn't until the 13th but I'm already starting to get anxious. Good luck!!!
-
Emily is right... You CAN do this. It's only 7 more days... The post op diet is there for a reason, to minimize risks. Would you rather have broth for one more week or a complication? Do anything you can to keep your mind off of food, stay busy and the week will fly by.

Trying To Stay Positive And Focused But Feeling Discouraged
Gene1970 replied to Spirit Fire's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Losing the weight slow may be a blessing. From everything I have read losing slower gives your body a chance to keep up and therefore results in a lot less loose skin. Most people would be thrilled at 2lbs a week and any Dr would tell you that you are losing at the perfect rate. At the rate you are going you will be at your goal in around 9 months. You didn't gain it all in 9 months, so losing it that quickly is awesome!!!! Keep up the good work!!! -
Congrats on the surgery tomorrow Shelley!!! I know all of your want's will come true and many more!

5 Days Post Op, When Can I Start Working Out & What Should I Do?
Gene1970 replied to NJsharon's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I like the advice that my Dr. gave me. He said use the a childs method of telling if you should do something or not... Meaning... If it hurts, then don't do it. He said up front it's ok to go to the Gym and use the treadmill, stair stepper, etc.... and then work yourself up to doing more. -
Great choice!!! If food was our true friend we wouldn't have needed surgery in the first place.
-
Congrats Maggie. I can't wait until my surgery so I can start seeing results like that. Great Job!!!
