I can hardly believe that I had my surgery almost 29 hours ago now. I feel much better than I anticipated I would. My pain level immediatly after surgery was maybe a 6 and the nurse got it down to a 3 within minutes. Once I was back in the room the pain seemed to go down to a 2-3 and stayed there for a few hours then went down to a 1. As I sit here just 29 hours post OP I have to say my pain level is a ZERO!!! No regrets on the surgery so far. I have been drinking plenty of water (slowly) and have had Jello a couple of times, broth a couple of times, and popcicle. Can't wait to see the pounds drop.

4 Th Day Of Pre Op Liquid Diet And I'm Starving
Gene1970 replied to wannabeeskinny's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you tried eating some popcicles or jello? make sure you eat something every couple of hours to keep a sense of fullness. you are over 1/2 way there and it will be worth it in the end. If you are really struggling contact your dr's office. My Dr had an alternative pre-op diet that they let me use which let me have lean meats, eggs, cheese, and some salad. According to them high protein low carb is really what is needed. Go with whatever your Dr tells you but it's worth asking. If you have to stick with liquids just remind yourself that it's only 3 more days. Good Luck!!! -
Thanks everyone for the kind words and support. I ws just released from the hospital about an hour ago and am now back in my hotel room. I am simply amazed at how pain free I am right now. Just sitting here I would say i have ZERO pain. It hurts to stand up and sit down but just for a few seconds. I have been trying to get plenty of liquids in today... Slow Small Sips is truly the key. I was on a morphine pump yesterday but didn't use it past 9pm last night. I did hit the button one more time today just before they took my drain out to help with the discomfort. I'm getting the liquid pain killer RX filled but don't think I'll need it much. I am exteremely pleased with my surgeon. He was AWESOME!!!!

I plan on it. Thanks.

Surgery was done today at 10AM. Feeling pretty good, pain is probably a 1-2 with minimal morphine use.

Thanks CR, yes it is an exciting time... and I do go through phases of nervousness and thoughts of "what I am I doing"... but it seems everyone here has had those feelings. I try to stay focused and tell myself that I did a lot of research before starting this journey and KNOW that this is the right choice. I will try to post as soon as I can after surgery.

Welcome CR. I totally undersand where you are coming from when you talk about wanting to do this on your own and having a hard time admiting that you need help. I guess the best way for us to look at is that we cannot always be successful in everything that we do on our own. Everyone needs help with something from time to time... and weight is just one of those things we need help with. The foolish man realizes he has a problem and does nothing to help himself, the wise man realizes he needs help and makes the decision to get that help and live a long happy life. I have decided not to die a foolish man and it sounds like you have too... Congrats on your first steps!!! For me my new life starts next Wed. (surgery day) I think you are really going to like this forum, there are a lot of great people here.

Congrats!!! Amazing what can happen in just 4 months!!! -
I am sure you will find a surgeon. Worst case they may put you on a 30 day liquid diet which won't be easy, but if it means that you can have the surgery I'm sure you can do it. 30 days is worth it for a lifetime of happiness!!!! Good Luck!!!

Good luck to both of you!!!

Every surgeon that I have talked to has recommended the sleeve and my primary care Dr said from his experience he has observed better long term success with the band than the bypass. He said that people with the sleeve seem to keep the weight off where as bypass patients seem to eventually gain some back. Welcome to the group!!!!!

11 Lbs In 12 Days...is That Enough?
Gene1970 replied to Izzy0525's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like amazing weight loss to me. Almost a pound a day is amazing. Without the sleeve most Dr's and diet plans would tell you to shoot for 1 - 2 lbs a week. Everyone will lose at different rates but it seems you are doing fine. -
remember too that if you lose too quickly you will end up with a lot of sagging skin. Slow is good.

It's probalby your body realizing something is different and saying... "What the **** have you done to me" It thinks it's starving right now but you'll be back on track soon. 2lbs in a week is still nice weight loss and 14lbs in 2 weeks is awesome. Congrats!!!! Don't get upset, it's just your body's way of adjusting to all of the changes.

Are you still on any pain meds? Glad you are feeling well. Now the fun begins as you watch the scale drop numbers

Im Starting To Regret My Decision
Gene1970 replied to ooffa511's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you talked to your Dr? Are you taking anything for acid? Are any liquids better than others (warm/cold/hot?) I feel for you, I'm sure it will get better as you continue to heal. It's a major change for your body but everything will eventually heal -
What To Do While Waiting On Approval?
Gene1970 replied to JenniJune's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me, the first thing that I did was give up soda which was a huge addiction for me. Besides that I have really focused on trying to learn as much as possible about the surgery from the blogs on this site. Making new friends that will help support you, learning and understanding how you will likely feel after surgery and going into it having a ton of knowledge I feel will help a ton post op. -

I Made It My 1St Wk
Gene1970 replied to whitniccole's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on being a week out!!! I get sleeved next week and have spent a lot of time on this site. I can tell you from everything I have read what you are experiencing is VERY NORMAL!!! Lets face it, most of us have a relationship with food that most others that are not overweight would not understand. Try to stay focused for these first few weeks. I am sure you will do fine since you know that doing the wrong thing could land you in the hospital. Every day will be a struggle for a while, but every day will get a little easier... That's how I feel about the pre-op diet at least. The first few days were bad and now it's easier. Hang in there!!!! -
Questions For Surgeon
Gene1970 replied to csawinski's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What is the Pre-Op Diet? What is the complication rate for his practice? What post OP meds does he prescribe? How long will you be in the hospital? How many incisions? some Dr's are doing single incision although I'm not sure how popular that is yet.
