I am interested in the sleeve and I am in Saskatchewan..... have you heard if that area is actually dangerous to travel to or not. I am wanting to go and get it done in Mexico soon - but I have been looking at Dr. Alvarez as well (just across border from San Antonio, TX). Let me know if you have heard from OHIP and maybe you will be doing something different. I will be on a self pay as our government does not cover that procedure. Looking forward to hearing from you! -
Are there any Canadians out there that have had the VSG procedured completed - in our outside of Canada? I am in Saskatchewan and have been trying to do my research on the sleeve and having a hard time finding alot of information on it - where can I go to find it?

I have been doing my research and I am seriously considering going to Mexico (Dr. Ortiz) for the surgery. I would love to hear from others that have gone there (good and bad please) as well as anyone in Saskatchewan that has had the lap band surgery - regardless of where you were banded. I am in Saskatoon and wonder mostly right now about post-op care, fills, etc. I am looking forward to hearing from anyone!

My name is Joel Sopp from Regina, SK. I am 6'3 and 437 lbs with a BMI of 54.6.
I am currently on the Board of Directors for the Saskatchewan Bariatric Surgery Support Group (www.sbssg.ca) and we are a Non-Profit WLS Support Group.
We have our Annual General Meeting coming up, which will take place at The Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites, 1800 Prince of Wales Drive in Regina, and we have a speaker coming out. Allison Kapp, the Nutritionist from the new Bariatric Clinic, will provide a presentation approximately 20 minutes in length followed by a 10?15 minute question and answer period for members of the SBSSG present at our Annual General Meeting. The presentation will begin at 2:40 pm.
Please go to the website and under AGM you can read a letter from the President of the SBSSG for prospective Board Members and/or Committee Chairs, An Information Kit for those interested in applying for a position on the board or a chair position, as well as a recruitment poster, nomination form, membership form and membership benefits.
