I really don't have the words... my life is almost identical to many of those posted here... reading all the good advice, prayers & words of wisdom (through my tears for all of us... turning from sad to determination)... helped me, the outsider looking in...... SO THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. When someone reaches out to help one person... it touches so many more. Oh.. and surgery date... July 17, and I CAN'T WAIT for my life to change. -

Lol u lucky dog... u get milk!!!! I love milk... but my surgeon calls it my sugar.. my addiction... even though I only drink skim milk he said its still "drinking my calories" therefore a no-no lol. My surgery is july 17 and my surgeon is more strict than any I've read so far... preop is only lowfat, sugar free Clear liquids... so basically water, sugarfree Jello, and bariatric broth. Ughhhhh.. I want this so bad so I will do it but its not going to be easy!!! -

oh my goodness! OUCH... My doctor says he doesn't use drains... was that for the sleeve or the hernia? I have to have a hiatal hernia fixed when I get the sleeve (July 17)... wonder if he'll have to cut me like that too or if he's able to do it with the four little cuts everyone talks about... You've just given me a whole new list of questions to ask my doctor!! I hope you heal quickly!! good luck in your journey -
I've already got my reward planned, and surgery isn't even until July, lol... I will be taking my son to Disney and Universal Studios since I'll be able to fit in the roller coaster!!

I was talking about this in private to a very nice member, and thought I might get some good advice here too... I'm not looking for sympathy, just help ... what have others done when food is no longer there to handle your grief?? I also dont have much local support, so I know that being with friends, etc. would be the best way, but I've been shunned by so many since i gained the weight Most of my life, I was the thin, healthy, active, pretty one, cheerleader in high school, modeled and sang in a rock band in college, etc... you know, the sterotypical snob. Then life blasted me with more than i could handle when my boyfriend was killed...and my best friend disappeared (found out she was abducted when her only her skull was found) and went from 140 to 240 what seemed overnight. Then... my dad committed suicide last May, my sister died a week after that.. and the only way I knew how to handle that was eat. I'm now 300lbs, gaining another 60lbs in a year. My dad had the lap-band (same scenerio, always thin until he started eating his emotions).. he lost 50 then gained more back (again, emotions). This is part of what led him to do what he did. I have no doubt I can do this... I have my son here for support (he's 14), and my dad driving me spiritually. I'm doing this for them as much as for me. My biggest worry now as far as the surgery itself is finding new ways to deal with life and death....

Thank you for your support... all of you. Funny thing is... I am a therapist. I work with behaviorally challenged teens.. so a different kind, yes. And you're right.. I used to talk to one and just kind of faded off. I know I should find another one... sooner than later. Surgery is scheduled for July 17. Thanks again!

I have coventry and it's covering 100%... was very easy to get the acceptance letter. My doctor just had to send them a notice indicating the surgery is medically necessary. Two of my coworkers got the band, and it was covered also. I'm sure it depends on which coventry plan you have. My best suggestion (besides simply calling Coventry) is to make your initial appointment w/ a bariatric clinic (many offer consultation free), have them evalutate your situation and have them submit it to your insurance!

Hi Buffy! I'm in the Ocean City area..... I'm not much help with the post care questions, as my sleeve is scheduled in July, but if you want a buddy to share in the experience, fears, workouts & celebrations.... I'm here for you!! I definitely have soooo many questions myself. Who is doing your surgery? Mine is Sofronski... Take care & be well!!
