1000-1400 Cal/day At 3 Months Post Op
ThinningMike replied to windycitymom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone's body is different, but for most people 1200 calories a day will still put them in a calorie deficit. -
My Nutritionist Just Called Me An "anomaly" :/
ThinningMike replied to Wheetsin's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I understand your pain. I lost 21lbs the first week and then it all came to a grinding halt. I hovered within a pound (up or down) for over 3 weeks till it finally started moving again. It didn't happen till three things lined up for me. Plenty of Water every day. Had to stay hydrated. Plenty of Protein, 100 grams a day for me. Increase in my daily calories. I'm taking in around 1100 calories a day now compared to the 600-700 I had been getting. I'll be honest, it's not coming off as fast as I thought it would, but it is starting to move again. I only weigh myself once or twice a week now. I was driving myself crazy with doing it daily and not seeing any progress. -

Another Californian here.... Darn it!!! When my wife heard me react, she wanted to know what was going on. I had to tell her "I can't tell you because you'll be mad..." Never underestimate the Wrath of a Mom -
3 Week Stall..great
ThinningMike replied to urbandecayno5's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My first stall came after the first week. It lasted 3 weeks, but finally broke. The funny thing is that everyone thought I was still losing because even though the scale wasn't moving my body composition was. My clothes were fitting ALOT better, and I even moved down in sizes, while the scale was not budging. Just hang in there and know that you are doing the right thing with your diet and eventually it will start dropping again. Keep track of other indications of progress like how your clothes fit, or how much space you have in places you couldn't fit before. One other thing, it was great stepping on the scale that first week and seeing 3-4 lbs losses on a daily basis. When that stall hit, I drove myself crazy with the lack of movement. I now swear to only step on the scale every few days, or once a week. Otherwise I would go nuts. -

Well, you posted... So I'll throw in my 2 cents.... I'm sorry that you are having these feelings for someone that you obviously cared very deeply for at some point in time. But if you are having them it is better that you deal with them now rather than after getting married and possibly starting a life together. I'm a new sleever, but I do know that the decision to get the sleeve was a decision to change my life completely. Not just my physical well being, but to discover who I am after i've dealt with some of the emotional and psychological baggage that I've used food and my weight to hide behind for most of my life. I think it's perfectly natural for us to have some changes in our personality and outlook on life as we make this journey. In your case, if you have decided that this is not the person you want to spend the rest of your life with, you should be honest with yourself and him. It is the only fair way to handle it.

Weird Taste In Mouth?
ThinningMike replied to Peachygal7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had that nasty taste and a coating on my tongue too. For me it appears to be a result of dehydration. Basically, your mouth was lacking the hydration necessary for the particles of what you are consuming to slide off easily. This results in a cumulative effect where you have old particles of Protein shake, yogurt, or whatever else you've been taking in sticking to your tongue. It tastes and smells horrible. Use the tongue scraper that has been suggested, also brush your tongue, and rinse with a good mouth wash. The most important thing though is to increase your Water intake. -
I had one put in on the table too. Just came to in recovery and poof, there it was. It was not bad. It felt weird to not have to go pee at all. I was really nervous about the removal. Like others have said, it does feel weird. The best way I can describe it would be that it feels like the feeling you have when you have to pee REALLY bad and it's coming whether you want it or not. As a matter of fact, I even told the nurse to watch out cause I thought I was going to pee on her. She just laughed and said relax, don't worry about it.

Any Hiatal Hernia / Sleevers?
ThinningMike replied to ibthin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had both done at the same time also. The hernia was a surprise to both my surgeon and I. I did have pains similar to what you're discribing. My pain was caused by gas (I'm pretty sure), and they pretty much stopped after a week. I didn't really experience any discomfort from the hernia till 2 weeks out when I quit taking my Lovenox injections. -
Calling All Men To The Man Room!
ThinningMike replied to Sergeant_Hotsauce's topic in The Guys’ Room
My hernia was a surprise to all involved. They fixed it while I was under and I didn't even know it had happened until my wife told me in recovery. In hindsight I went through a period of horrible acid reflux that everyone just attributed to my weight and diet. If it was the hernia that was causing it hopefully it will be a thing of the past. I was talking to my boss and he was telling me that when he had his hernia repaired the healing process hurt like hell, but I've only had some slight discomfort from it. Overall my surgeon did a great job and I think that makes a big difference. -
Calling All Men To The Man Room!
ThinningMike replied to Sergeant_Hotsauce's topic in The Guys’ Room
Hi all. I got sleeved on April 11th, along with a gall bladder removal and a hiatal hernia repair. This site is great and a wealth of information. I especially like hearing from other guys on the topics that come up. -
Clear Liquid Protein Drinks (That Taste Good)
ThinningMike replied to 4ALongerLife's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I've been drinking the Pure Protein for a while now, and I love them. They are a little cheaper than Isopure, and a little sweeter. All I've seen are the three flavors (Watermelon, Tangerine, Tropical), if anyone knows of different ones, I'd love to hear about them. -
I completely understand where you're coming from. I got sleeved on 4/11/12 so I'm only a week and a half out, but I've already had some feelings of regret and a little anger. Not so much at others but at myself. I was asking myself why did I do this to myself, how did I let it get so far that I had to resort to surgery, etc... I have dealt with these issues in the past, and in my mind I know that this is temporary. In time I will be eating normal (nutritious) food again, just in smaller quantities. Thats the rational side of me. The irrational side is the one that starts all the trouble. I guess it's just a matter of keeping everything in perspective. And I'm not going to lie, on very rare occasions, I plan to eat something really yummy and not good for me, just in a very small portion...
