Hi! April 6th sleever also. Every day I seem to improve but still cannot meet the water or protein goals. Going to work tomorrow for a couple hours and hope I can maintain.

It sounds fraudulent to charge twice for something they do once. Maybe look up your state insurance board helpline and ask if this is correct.

Did anyone else get a pill your supposed to take for first three months to protect the stomach?
cara342 replied to robertweisman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I realize I was actually given generic Pepcid to take, not Prilosec. Sorry. Surgery was a week ago and I haven't learned all my med names well yet. -

cara342 replied to robertweisman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was given three month supply of Prilosec. To be taken every eight hours, basically two times a day. I take in am and pm. It helps your sleeve heal because acid makes it harder for your sleeve to heal. This is what I was told. -
Getting sleeved on April 6th and also not excited. I basically feel like I made this decision and I am going through with it. I had a moment of anxiety today eating lunch and feeling like I will never eat a "normal" portion again. But I have moved past that feeling. I am basically going to white knuckle it. I don't believe I can maintain weight loss without surgery. So I have to do this. I am hoping that my lack of excitement will help me after surgery. I have heard that most everyone has some feelings of buyers remorse initially. Perhaps I won't be so let down because I lack excitement now? I think it is good you are thinking about your feelings and processing them. Prepare yourself for feelings of regret and then feelings of joy when the weight comes off. When feeling panic I would tell yourself three reasons why you are doing this and that its going to be ok. Repeat the same mantra whenever the feelings come.

Your SIL gave you a gift. The gift of knowing who she really is and that you should limit your contact with her and never trust her with anything ever again. Right now it feels awful, but push the embarrassment aside and tell yourself that her behavior is a reflection of her, not you. It may also help to discuss this issue with your brother if you have a good relationship. Then he will understand why you have to pull back from her.

Looking for mild OTC appetite supressant

I think seeing a psychiatrist would be helpful. Get the right med to help yourself long term. I agree that wellbutrin might help you. Bypass your Dr and go straight to a psychiatrist who will understand the mental health component of binge eating. -

Any Fremont Kaiser Pre-Op People?
cara342 replied to cara342's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do understand. I started becoming overweight when I was 18. I slowly kept gaining until I was about 220 when I was 22-23. Then I kept going up and down with dieting till I was 305 at age 31. I then had two children 19 months apart. Now I am at 267. I am 5'9". I guess I am so conflicted because the last time I seriously dieted before the past month or so was about 4-5 years ago so I am wondering if I should listen to my family and give it one more try. My relationship with food is pathological also. I think about what my next meal is going to be. I will eat a lot when I do eat a meal. I don't do a ton of snacking but I just overeat at meals. Not till I am sick, but just a large portion. So at a taqueria I would get a super burrito and eat it all. I am exercising almost daily with 30 minute walks. Do you exercise? I am worried I don't have a good enough exercise Program -
Any Fremont Kaiser Pre-Op People?
cara342 replied to cara342's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes it's like my family is having an intervention with me begging me not to do it, that I will never be able to eat a normal meal again, that I haven't tried hard enough on my own. I am 34 but it is difficult for me to deal with all of their negativity. Do you think you will ever regret the surgery? Like when you are older? Can you eat a normal meal? How irritating is it to not be able to drink normally? -

Wanted to say also, yes Dr. Dutta is not warm and fuzzy but that is ok. Just want a good surgeon. Do you know if he ever had any patients with leaks? -
Any Fremont Kaiser Pre-Op People?
cara342 replied to cara342's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was 40 exactly also. Part of my issue is my family not being supportive. My husband is but my parents are struggling with it, the permanence of it and the "I think you can do it on your own you just haven't really tried". I have tried multiple times and can lose weight but I just don't maintain. So I am just having difficulty with my parents highlighting every fear I have. I feel good that I am going to do it and then talk with my mom and am conflicted. My mom also feels like "most people just gain the weight back after surgery from what she has heard". Of course that is my biggest fear that I would have surgery and then regain the weight. -
Any Fremont Kaiser Pre-Op People?
cara342 replied to cara342's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I met with Dr. Dutta on Friday. I had my psych appt scheduled for the middle of June but I got a call today that they had a cancellation so I am going this week. I am at goal weight because I was losing weight prior. I am having a lot of mixed emotions though and am not sure I am going to go through with it. I just go back and forth. How are you doing? Are you sure you are going to do it? -
I think if you wait until 18 months when your weight loss has slowed that would be ok. You need to balance the desire to do it right away with the desire to be healthy. I have two very young children and am getting the sleeve because I want to be healthy for them and me. It would suck if you got pregnant too soon and missed out on the chance to lose your excess weight.
-
Kaiser says no pregnancy for two years after. Otherwise you will have a chance of baby with birth defects due to vitamin deficiency because that first year especially you are taking in so few calories and nutrients. Soo I would wait two years that way you have lost all the excess weight and have maintained for a little. Then they say to not gain more than fifteen pounds while pregnant. Kaiser is really on you about birth control for this reason.

When were you sleeved? I am preop and have a one and two year old. Nervous about the no lifting... I had two csections and after two weeks I did pick up my daughter. Its almost impossible not to (carseats, etc...). I am gonna have to think about this issue and how to get them in and out of the car when I am by myself... -
When Does The Hair Loss Stop?
cara342 replied to kcsmicah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am Kaiser and they are really specific on what you need to take. If you google Fremont kaiser bariatrics you will see they have several documents that you can open and one is their vitamin recommendations. I am Pre-op. I take Kirkland (Costco) brand which is a generic for Centrum. They also told me the Walmart generic for centrum is good. It's the normal centrum not the over 60 or Womens. -

Just a note to say that a multivitamin is better than prenatal because the prenatals lack minerals. -
I Have To Cancel My Surgery. So Upset.
cara342 replied to amytug's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think you should consider gaining until you are at 40. I am just at forty and had to gain 7 lbs to get there. That was pretty easy. Keep exploring the sleeve through your insurance. Most insurance companies are changing to allow the sleeve because it is actually less expensive to do than the bypass and the band when you consider the expense of fills. I would abandon the self pay option and aggressively go after the insurance option. If you don't have the money for self pay you don't want to add the stress to your family by going that route. I really think you can do this through your insurance you may just need to fight for it. Don't give up! -
I am wondering about the lifespan of people that have undergone a VSG. I know there isn't long term data yet, but did anyone's surgeon address this with them? I can only think that it may be similar to people who have their stomachs completely removed. Can I live to 80 or 90 with a VSG? I am in the very beginning stages with Nor Cal Kaiser so am at least 4-6 months away from surgery and have been thinking a lot about this issue. Any info is appreciated.

Lifespan Of Vsg Patients?
cara342 replied to cara342's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the responses. I am just having anxiety that I am going to reduce my lifespan by doing this vs losing weight naturally. Which is funny because it is not like I have a clear choice. I can lose weight on my own but have never kept it off. So it's the fantasy that I could lose weight and keep it off without surgery. My Kaiser intro to WLS class said there is a 5% chance of losing a lot of excess weight and keeping it off. WLS is an 80% chance. So I know my odds are better with WLS. Plus the benefit of possibly never getting diabetes which runs in my family...
