Hi I'm a newbie on here and just in the beginning stages of all of this. I currently have BCBS Cobra from my divorce with my ex-husband's policy but it is due to expire June 30th. I was hoping to get everything approved and done and surgery by then but doesn't look like that is going to happen, fingers still crossed. Effective July 1st I have to go on Ky Access, which is a insurance that will insure you because no one else will due to our weight/height. I am 46, 5'2" and weigh 287 and no one would insure me due to this so I am forced to go on Ky Access. Ky Access does cover Lap Band but when I call since I'm not enrolled they will not give me details on requirements. Hoping someone can enlighten me. Thanks.

I'm relaxed now, now that it's almost here, tomorrow I mean. Thanks for the vote of confidence. I'm just ready for this life-long journey to begin...

Ok, I go for my Psych Eval this coming Friday and I am terrified! A friend of mine told me that she just met with a Psychologist and they asked her questions and that was it but my surgeon's nurse coordinator said that the DR or Pyschologist/Psychiatrist had to go by a test I think it was called a MMPI-2 test with over 500 questions. I googled the test questions and I just do not see how that relates to weight loss surgery but I guess my surgeon knows best and it's his protocal and procedure and I will roll with it. Anyone else had to do this? Thx

I'm not banded yet, got my Psych visit tomorrow, dietician on the 14th of June and surgeon May 24. About the SF FF pudding, I can't find that here, only thing I can find is either sugar free or fat free one or the other not both?

thanks everyone for the reassurance, whew! Now I know what to expect when I have my surgery. thanks again for everyone's input. -
congrats Lilbelly on the Eval. I go for mine Friday. I called today to see how long it would take as I needed to be in Nashville later that day and the Dr called me back and said an hr so I guess she is just going to ask a few questions and we'll see. Hope I pass! She didn't mention taking the MMPI test.

Started My Pre Surgery Diet On May 3
donna12 replied to brooke33's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm cracking up, from poop to pills etc comment. That's the truth to say the least since I've signed up and read. I haven't had surgery yet nor started the pre-op diet. I go for Psych Eval day after tomorrow and meet with my surgeon on the 24th, can't wait. I've learned a lot on here, good and bad, well not bad, just informative. And I'm sure I've got lots more to learn in the coming months ahead. signed: can't wait to be banded Donna! -

3 Days Post Op Liquid Diet Is Not Enough! Suggestions
donna12 replied to sma102205's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Has anyone tried Isopure from GNC? I am hoping for a June surgery date and of course have to do the 2 week pre-op shake diet but I am not a how do I say this, I don't like milk or milky tasting things. I drink water with Crystal Light in it so I like fruity things and a gastric bypass patient friend told me about Isopure, so I was wondering if any of you had tried it? Guess if nothing else I will learn to like milky tasting shakes huh? I can tolerate a strawberry one but def not a chocolate or vanilla. In my seminar they recommended EAS brand. -
can you get Pure Protein vanilla powder anywhere GNC or Walmart?

I'm not banded yet, hoping for a June date but I'm curious too, what is a nectar shake as I have to do 2 wks of protein shakes pre-op? Also would like to know what brand of protein powder are you using to do the pumpkin spice flavor shake? thx for the recipe.

I didn't mean to offend anyone with my stating that my psych eval was $300 up front, it was just a statement. I understand after reading all your comments about the eval what it entails and do think it is necessary as this is my beginning of a life long journey. Didn't mean to start arguments on here or negativity in any sorts.

thanks for the web addy for the liquid vitamins, didn't know there was such. Not banded yet here but hopefully soon. Good luck with all of ya'll.

wow, you all are scaring me about all the emotions I may have afterwards. I don't have a hubby to lash out at but my mom will be helping out and she is 73 and I certainly do not want to lash out at her. She has even agreed to do the pre-op shake diet with me so that I won't be tempted. I live on my own right now but my house is for sale and I will be moving in with her to help her out as she is getting older thus the comment of her not wanting to tempt me with food. You guys are lucky with the psych eval being that cheap, mine is $300 up front and then they will file insurance. The other psych doctor they recommended was $500 up front.

thanks for the SF choc pudding trick for crushing meds up as I will be opening capsules, and crushing one pill, ew, I was thinking all natural apple sauce because I didn't want to do the caffeine of the choc. at night but I guess I will do what I gotta do. Yes I'm sure I will stay on my low dose of Lexapro. Thanks for all of your advice.

oh it better not take her forever to get the results or I will go crazy, lol. No actually my BCBS ins runs out June 30th and I was hoping to be banded by then, fingers crossed! If not, I will have another policy by July 1 and I will have to go thru another deductible and red tape of approval. I will just explain to her the urgency and I'm sure she will understand, I actually saw this therapist for marriage counseling, a lot of good it did me huh? LOL Now I'm divorced! Anyhoo, maybe she will remember me, she was nice 3 years ago so I'm sure all will go well.

Thanks everyone for your input, guess I get to look forward to a 2 hr test huh? hm... This helps a lot what everyone has said, guess everyone's doctor is different with their requirements. Guess mine doesn't want me to go Psycho on him, lol, no really it's not a laughing matter, I need to understand the ramifications of body changes, emotional changes that I may experience but I do understand that and I do understand I will feel different after losing weight. Someone asked me the other day if I was doing this to get back at my ex-husband, wow, what a blow that was to me. I've been divorced 11 months and was married for 25 years and he had an affair, yes she is skinny and yes she is younger than me and I'm 46 but I replied to this person that "no, I'm doing this for myself, I'm slowly dying a slow death if I do not get a handle on my eating and that I needed help". My ex and I remain friends, I know that's weird to some of you but we've moved on with our lives and he is now engaged and I'm happy for him. Right now, today, I need to focus on me and my life and how I can get better and live a long healthy life for my family. Thanks again for everyone's input....Donna

LBT addict please ellaborate on being overwhelmed as I am in the beginning stages of all of this, what I mean by this is I see my surgeon on the 24th, my Psych Eval is this coming Friday and ins is approved and hoped to be banded in June. I do have mild bouts of depression already and take med for it, low dose, I certainly do not want to feel worse??? What makes you feel overwhelmed?
-
thanks everyone that informed me on ground beef and fish and clarified for me as I will keep this in mind when I get banded hopefully by June. I look at this as a life long journey. Good luck to everyone on here.

have not been banded yet, meet with my surgeon May 24th, ins approved, Psych Eval next week and I'm on my way, woohoo. My question is to all of you above, what is it about fish that you can't eat it? I love fish now, like baked or grilled salmon, tilapia, grouper with lemon pepper and baked or grilled? Is this not feasible for banded patients?

So Here Goes..my Intro.
donna12 replied to Meredithsings's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I know my profile shows male but I'm all girl, lol. I need to go in and put a pic up. Anyway, Congrats on your all's weight loss. I am still in the process of making the appt with the surgeon and I have my Psych Eval on Wed of this week. I asked if I could possibly have my surgery by June and the nurse coordinator said absolutely. No 6 month diet prior to surgery here because my BMI is 52, I know wow huh? I am 5'2" and weigh 285, I can't wait to have surgery and get this weight off. I do have to do the 2 week prior to surgery protein shakes and if I remember correctly 2 weeks after liquids too like you. I am so ready to start this weight loss journey. I have been overweight since 17 and I'm 46, I of course put the weight on gradually during my married years, boy if I knew then what I know now! Well hopefully I can let you all know how this KY girl is doing in the coming months and I can report back with good news of surgery date soon. Good luck to you guys on your weight loss journey.
