    5 Weeks Post Op

thanks guys. Its just that every morning when I get up I just can't hardly stomach breakfast because I'm so nauseated. And today well it lasted all day. Luckily I had some Zofran left over from surgery so I took one to even get dinner down and it was cottage cheese and I didn't feel like a meal. I see my surgeon next week so I will mention this to him. Puzzling.
  2. it gets better with time. I'm almost 5 weeks post op and I've gotten used to it now. Yes there are times that I'm thirsty after eating but I try to focus on other things. One thing you might try and I don't do this very often as I don't want to recommend it but put a piece of ice in your mouth and then spit it out just to wet your mouth. In my seminar I was told I could drink right up to my meal then I had to wait an hour after so that is what I've been doing. Good luck.
  3. OMG what a doosy it was. I ate a piece of chicken, small bite or so I thought but it got stuck. I was miserable for an hr and half. Just as I had read on here, salivating a lot, spitting up frothy mess and slimy like egg white mess, yuck!!! Finally towards the end I ended up getting sick and throwing up what was stuck and I felt better. It was so intense it made my nose bleed. i think I'm done with chicken!!!
  4. First and foremost to Judy, I'm sorry for your loss of your friend. Yes the happy dance of restriction. I got 4ccs in my band this past week and I'm 4 weeks post op. Thank you for the suggestion of papaya dissovable pills, I will get them after church Sunday since I am packing to move tomorrow all day. Eating light tomorrow...lol. looking back at it, maybe i didn't chew chew chew or ate a too big of bite I don't know, all I know it got stuck. Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
  5. ok, so yesterday I was 4 weeks post op and I recently had pizza, now pizza was ONE of my favs to eat before my band and believe you me, I could put away some pizza but that day eating with my mom I only ate 1 1/2 pc and not all of the crust and it just didn't taste as good as I wanted it to. Probably will not eat it for a while as I don't want the fat and calories. I think my doctor changed my taste buds...lol, all I've been eating is healthy foods, which is good, don't get me wrong but the thought of going back to eating like I was, well, is disgusting now. Hope this mind set stays!
  6. I'm 4 weeks post op yesterday and had my first fill today, feel weird. The doctor put 4cc's in and then I drank some water to see how I would tolerate that and I did fine so I guess I'm ok but still feel tightening in my throat, is that normal? Thought sure I'd get only 2cc's today being it was my first but he put 4 in. Scared to eat now, of course I'm on soft foods now but scared to eat when I can, eek!
  7. I hope so, maybe this will kick start a few more pounds down for me in the next couple of weeks till I go back in to see him again for a check up. Of course I don't want to lose it too fast. Have been making healthy food choices since surgery and he was happy to hear that today.
  8. no I didn't have any saline in my band at surgery time, today was my first time, I was so nervous but it was nothing to it.
  9. yea I know, I thought 4cc's was a bit much for the 1st time but I just went with it. I go back in 2 weeks to weigh in and to check in with him to see how this is doing for me.
  10. yea, he told me to tolerate liquids and mushies today and tomorrow thru noon and then if I want to try a soft fish (baked) then I could. lol, I didn't mean to sound like I was going right to the kitchen and eat, no not gona happen.

    Small Sips

Calm down, you can do it. If I can do it anyone can. I am 4 weeks post op tomorrow and before surgery I was a BIG drinker (not alcohol) water, nothing but water, had crystal lite in it but water. Probaby a gallon a day like you. But since surgery you just tell yourself you have to do this. Now on some of my days I get thirsty after a meal and I cannot wait till my hour to hour and half is up and drink but most of the time I eat fish and veggies and I am not thirsty. It will all work out for you, I promise. Like I said, if I can do it you can to. Donna

First Fill And I Went Down

OMG, first off I want to say I hope you are all right? But please don't say that is normal cause I go for my first fill Thursday and I'm so nervous. Nervous of what it will feel like and nervous about it all. Hope you are doing better.
  13. this coming Wednesday will be 3 weeks post op and I ate horrible today after a healthy lunch. I had a snack actually 2 snacks, candy, a small piece of birthday cake. It was like I was on a feeding frenzy. I don't know what got into me. I feel so guilty and ashamed. I guess what's done is done and move on. Lord give me the strength to overcome the power of bad foods. Amen.
  14. I do think my body is lacking in something, can pinpoint it. Plan on talking with my dr Thurs when I go in for a fill. Thanks for the recipes of the smoothies, I will try that.
  15. I saw this on YouTube but was wondering from you guys: Ham or turkey roll ups with fat free cream cheese for a good source of protein? Some people cut them in to pinwheels and I think some recipes call or chives??? A gastric bypass patient friend on facebook of mine mentioned to look out for sodium content in the meat which is good to look out for but I was just trying to change up my menu and trying to get protein in. help.

    Food Question

thanks everyone, I think I will try this for a quick and easy on the go or to have as a snack like one or two at night if I get hungry and only if I get hungry. Of course I live in a hick town so I will have to go to Publix in the next city over and look for laughing cow cheese. All I have to choose from is Kroger, Walmart and Food Lion.

    Post Op Pain

ok, here's my 2 cents: I was banded June 13th and where my port is, is still really sore and tender. Just had my first follow up visit this past week and come to find out I had clear Fluid about the size of a ping pong ball in there under the incision and that is why mine was hurting and hard. It did open up a tad and drain over the weekend but not enough to get rid of the all the fluid. My dr said that my body may absord it naturally and to watch for fever and redness and warmth around the port sight, nothing so far so no infection I guess just fluid, he called it something but can't remember. He didn't seem alarmed. I go in next Thurs for my first fill so I guess he will check my incision again. Hope all works out for you. As for the bloating and gas, try walking around, it helps. It moves the gas along. Donna

    How Does Being Stuck Feel?

I certainly do not take as small of bites as I should right now since I do not have restriction in there but I do chew chew chew. I understand what slime is now, thanks. I will watch out for that. I'm really nervous about my first fill next Thurs. What to expect with the needle, what foods I will be able to eat etc. I'm getting tire of cottage cheese and Tilapia everyday. If anyone has any suggestions on foods/diet for me please chime in as I can't survive on the same thing day after day and succeed. I know we all differ in what we can tolerate in what we can eat but it's just me, no kids, divorced and I find it hard to cook for just me but am doing so. I found Gordon's grilled Tilapia frozen that I bake that is good and today I bought some Cod at Publix. I love fish but it's beginning to get old day after day after day. Today I ate out at Red Lobster and split a meal with my mom and had about 2 1/2 oz of grilled Salmon, it was yummy. Open for suggestions. And thanks for clearing the slime situation up. Donna

    How Does Being Stuck Feel?

don't mean to sound dumb but I get my first fill next week and you guys are freaking me out about getting stuck and what in the heck is slime? ew! About 9 days after surgery, June 13th about bedtime I got nauseated and ended up dry heaving because there was nothingin my upper stomach to throw up, it was so intense it made my nose bleed and my stomach was so sore the next day. Don't want to go thru that again, not fun.
  20. thanks everyone. I guess I'm expecting too much of myself and need to listen to my body and rest. Yes I am taking Vitamins, chewables, well gummies multi's. I will continue to rest and eat healthy, I get my first fill next week. Thanks again everyone. Donna
  21. here was my surgeon's diet after surgery: first 24 hrs all liquids then i was to move on to mushies for 2 weeks so I don't think you hurt anything but probably wouldn't have eaten the Protein Bar. Don't beat yourself up, we've all been there, it was just day before yesterday that I posted that I ate awful and I'm 3 weeks post op, I was feeling guilty too. Just get back on track, get focused and tomorrow is another day. We can do this.

    Anyone Losing Hair?

I am by no means getting 50 to 60 grams of protein a day and certainly do not want to start losing hair, scary thought. I will be 3 weeks post op Wed., I think I will opt for an egg in the morning. Pretty much every day I eat Tilapia, does anyone know how many protein grams are in fish? And any suggestions of what I can eat with it that is packed with protein? Need meal suggestions.
  23. Today was my first doctor's visit since surgery June 13th. I had told him I thought I could detect clear liquid in the corner of my port incision so he took a look at my incision and pressed down on it and said yes there is a pocket of clear liquid (he called it something, can't remember) and said it was the size of a ping pong ball and if it opened up and draine to let it and bandage it, if not, that our bodies usually absorb it naturally. I see him again next week for my first fill and to check on this incision. It is making my port incision stick out and I was wondering why it is sticking out. Has anyone else had this happen and what is it called? thx Donna
  24. Thank you Judy about the info your niece, sounds like the same thing. The surgeon did ask if I had had a fever and I told him that I had one the first couple of days after surgery but not one since then. I see him next week for my first fill so I'm sure he will stay on top of things and I will also if things start to feel warm or hot to touch and if I start to run a fever. I may take your advice and go back to my moms for a few days for some help with my dog as she is only 15 months old so stil somewhat a puppy and learning to go out to potty on a leash. Thank goodness she is housetrained and goes outside but it is very hard for me to bend over to put her leash on her because she is a Dashshund and sits so low to the ground. Thanks again. Donna
  25. No, Hematoma wasn't the word he used. He said it might leak and it would leak clear and for me to shower as usual and put a band-aid or bandage on it and it may leak a lot. He said he could lance it but then he risks infection where the port is or where the incision is so he said it's best to leave it alone and let it burst on its own or absorb into my body naturally. I know one thing, it sure does hurt for me to bend over when I have on my bra (underwire) and take care of my dog (i.e. putting on her leash each time I take her outside), I may opt to go back to my mom's house for a few days so she can help out taking care of her since I'm so sore there and can't bend over very well. One fact still remains, first 6 days were hell after surgery, but I wouldn't change a thing, wish I had done this years ago!!!
