Breakfast Protiens Besides Shakes/yogurts
donna12 replied to dramastarr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I'm no expert but the way I've been explained to is after you get fills your stoma opening is only so big or shall I say small and therefore that piece of scrambled egg just can't get chewed very well and gets stuck over the opening, it lays just right over the opening, does this make sense? For me at least this happens no matter how well I chew a scrambled egg, now cooked over easy, it goes down ok. However, with that said, I just had .5cc put in Thurs. and have not had an egg since last Tues so we'll see. Hope this helps. -

are you looking on Pinterest? I am not a member of that site and would love a recipe for a delish quiche, crustless or not as I would like to make one for breakfast for myself and then I can warm it up with the left overs. Post a recipe please...thx Donna -
Breakfast Protiens Besides Shakes/yogurts
donna12 replied to dramastarr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
scrambled eggs get stuck with me but I tried one over easy and it was okay. Currently I have 5cc's in, just had a fill this past week. And yes you are right about shakes for breakfast and getting hungry, had one this morning before church and by noon I was starving and it had only been 3 hrs. I can usually go about 4.5 hrs between meals. The turkey/cheese roll ups sound yummy. It's so hard for me anyway because I never was a breakfast eater anyway which was a big mistake to begin with!. Good luck for us on finding breakfast foods. -
I had BCBS PPO and mine was waived because my BMI was at 53 therefore they approved me and from start to finish of all of it I had my surgery in 6 weeks from first meeting the surgeon. Good luck.

I can't wait to lose some of my tata's, I'm a 44DD, whew! However, being that I've lost 31 lbs so far since surgery they seem smaller but I haven't changed bra sizes yet. Looking forward to it tho.

Protein Shakes Months Later?
donna12 replied to farmgirl04's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really don't rely on them for protein intake but most mornings it's the only thing I can tolerate to get down since I've gotten fills and I go for another Thurs. I'm 10 wks post op tomorrow. I'm certainly no expert on this issue but I think if you find a Protein Shake that you really like, like I have done then it is not an issue. If you have a GNC near you they will let you sample. I really really like GNC's Lean Shake Swiss chocolate, don't like the vanilla or strawberry but the choc. is delish. Tastes like chocolate milk and I hate milk but do enjoy these for something quick and easy and for those mornings I'm feeling tight. Good luck. -
I have an appt Thurs with my surgeon for my next fill, I'm 9 wks post op and every time I eat about 10 mins later I hurt right in the middle of my chest, not a stuck episode, believe me, I've had experiences with that, 4 to be exact. This is an aching feeling like gas feeling or pressure almost like I need to burp but can't. Today, I decided to experiment, I took a gas-x after each meal and it subsided but tonight the pain was awful, oh and I get nauseous. Sometimes I eventually burp or it does develop into gas or the pain subsides after a couple of hrs. After my last stuck episode I am careful and chew really well and eat slow. I'm not sliming, PB'ing, just the pain. Is this normal?

thank you, I will make a note of this and try it.

I have had IBS for the last 15 yrs with constant diarrhea after every meal or ice cream etc. Was only diagnosed 4 yrs ago thru a colonoscopy (routine). That dr prescribed me Cholestryramine which is a powder that I mix with diet cranberry juice every morning and drink it, stops all my symptoms, the pain, the diarrhea, bloating and I can eat anything I want. Now, with that being said, since my surgery June 13th, I have come off of the medicine because I don't need it anymore for some reason. Not eating high fat foods or ice cream but I am eating yogurt. I will have a bout of diarrhea ever so often but more normal bowel movements now than not. You might mention the above med to your doctor, it has worked wonders for me the last 4 yrs. Good luck.

I didn't have one that high, mine went up to 99.9 but I was told if it got up to 101 to call. You were right in calling the doctor and glad he told you to come in. Hope all is well tomorrow.

I eat about 3/4 cup of food right now and I have 4.5cc's in my band. I currently get hungry about every 4 hrs, I mean hunger pains, stomach growling, the whole nine yards. I do try and recognize to stop and then after about 15 mins I'm satisfied. In the mornings I have to usually, drink a Protein shake because I can't tolerate anything, too nauseous. I will try and cut down on portion size, thanks all for your suggestions. I love this site.

I do have gallstones present and have had probs with it before surgery. So this could be the problem... My surgeon is aware of it and he said my gallbladder may have to come out at some point but wanted to wait till I healed completely. thanks for letting me know about you. Something to think about.

I'm not sure, I guess I could cut back but then I would get hungry more often. I'm glad I'm getting a fill this week. Guess it could be the portion size. I will keep this in mind. thx.

I was diagnosed with IBS 4 yrs ago with constant diarrhea after eating and went on Cholestyramine powder with juice and it solved my issues. Then I had surgery, I'm 9 weeks post op today and I no longer take the meds cause I stay constipated, I guess cause I no longer eat fatty foods. My surgeon mentioned this to me that I may no longer need the meds and he was right. I may have the occasional diarrhea but not very often. Hope this helps. Donna

sorry for your experience and yes it is horrible. I'm 9 wks post op and have been stuck 4 times. I have 4.5cc's in my band so far and getting a fill next week. I think my stuck episodes are too fast at eating and not chewing. Need to learn my band and still learning. Yes I agree with above, liquids then mushies then on to solids. Take it easy, hope you feel better.

Headed To The Hospital
donna12 replied to lrhodes46's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, I'm excited for you! I'm 8 1/2 weeks post op and feeling great. The pain after surgery is short lived but well worth it. Be sure to walk and sip. I got severely constipated on day 5, hadn't gone in a week and was miserable so I drank a little of Magnesium Citrate and that moved me. With all the pain meds, it may make you constipated or at least it did me. Hope you do well. Many prayers your way. Keep us posted. -
Just Can't Get My Energy Back From Surgery
donna12 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded June 13th and I just can't seem to get my energy back. I am on solid foods now however with that being said I am eating only fish and canned chicken (making chicken salad) and protein shake for breakfast or an egg and then cottage cheese for my other meal. I would like to start walking or exercising some but I just don't feel up to it, all I want to do is sleep. Help! -
Just Can't Get My Energy Back From Surgery
donna12 replied to donna12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm finally getting back to normal, whew! Taking my Vitamins and also taking B12 with it. I'm now 8 wks post op and feeling great. Getting a lot more activity now. Haven't started exercising yet as I'm trying to decide on a facility, hopefully that will be decided this week. But have been extremely active during the day and trying to move so I'm getting some exercise with that, moving boxes and such. With that said, I'm tuckered out tonight and will say good night to all my peeps on here! Thanks for all your advice. Donna -
I am 8 weeks post op and although I take a multi everyday I was wondering do I need to add B-12 to it like I've read on here that some of you have done? I thought it would give me a boost of energy that I lack???

Swallowed Gum- Help!
donna12 replied to Carriedaway78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just been told it's a no no and you might have to have it removed. Hope you are able pass it. -
Well, I will put my 2 cents in. I'm recently divorced, a little over a year. Although he did not have control issues my weight played a big part in him straying out of our marriage vows and he was supportive of me losing and even supported me wanting to have surgery yrs ago but I just wasn't ready then and didn't have it then. Hind sight, maybe it would have saved my marriage. Like above, sounds like control issues and I just wouldn't put up with it, you are your own person and you have yourself to worry about and your health. But you also have kids involved in a marriage to think about and you obviously love him or you wouldn't be married so with that being said I would suggest (like above) counseling. It does a world of good! I was married for 25 yrs and we tried counseling but ours was too far gone and he didn't want it to work. Enough about me, this is about you. You should be able to teach Zumba and be able to work out when you feel like it. Ok, I'm done...lol Good luck and I hope and pray it works out for you. I think it will! Stay positive.

walking will make the hurt go away, it could be gas and drink drink drink. You have to get your liquids in. Take it easy and rest and let your body heal. I'm 8 wks post op tomorrow and the rewards are awesome! Take care and good luck.' Donna

Stuck Episode Again Tonight, What's Up?
donna12 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is like the 3rd or 4th time now and I'm still in pain 4 hrs later. I had 2 slices of small pcs of breaded squash on my plate (I know, don't fuss, not the best and healthiest thing) but thought I could eat it but yet it was the only thing that came up finally. I have 4.5cc's in my band. I don't mean to sound dumb but I do not know what size my band is, never have asked, that's next on my list when I go in. Should I call the dr tomorrow and tell him I keep getting food stuck? It's to the point that the only thing I can eat is canned chicken in the form of chicken salad, cottage cheese, string cheese, oatmeal, protein shakes and fish and I'm getting tired of fish!!!
