The difference between stuck and too full ????
donna12 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm having trouble since my fill a week ago today and not sure if I'm getting stuck or if I'm overeating. Not sure if it was yesterday or the day before, sorry, but I believe I got stuck, at least that is what I posted on here, I did PB, a lot, slimed and finally threw up, followed up with a cup of hot tea and that night ate soup. Today I had a dr's appt in Nashville and on the way me and my mom stopped off on the way at a Cracker Barrel and shared a meal, don't chastize me on menu but we shared the special, turkey, dressing and a veggie which was green beans, I had two spoons of greens, teaspoons, and two tsp of dressing and a small piece of turkey with gravy on it. About 3/4 thru the meal I started feeling this lump in my throat like well I was going to hiccup which is my soft stop indicator but never did it so I took another bite or two and then had to excuse myself to the restroom to PB several times and again, slime came up too with food. I cut the turkey the size of my pinky nail and chewed really well. After this episode mom suggested another cup of hot tea so I ordered hot tea which helped with the soreness. Is my band aggravated and not healed from yesterday or the fill or swollen and do I need to do mushies and liquids for a few days or do I need a slight unfill? I really felt I needed this fill because I was eating everything in sight. Please help. -

PB'ing is another word for Productive Burp or regurgitation almost without effort, it just comes back up with a burping sensation. For me PBing I will slime yes slime comes up and salivate uncontrollably then if I'm lucky when something is stuck I PB (the stuck food comes up), no fun and can cause slippage and aggravate your band so I don't recommend it. I just had a recent fill last week and I'm under a lot of stress right now which may play a role in making my band tight so I've been stuck 3 times in a week, luckily not today as I've taken it easy on solid foods. Hope this anwers your questions. -

Thanks for the advice med., I will wait it out. Just ate some homemade chicken taco soup with shredded canned chicken in it, did ok with that, may have it again for dinner since I did ok with it. Steph, I hate to get an unfill, but like you I want to get to the sweet spot or green zone and I just can't seem to get there because prior to getting the fill I was hungry in between meals and wanting to snack and felt like I could eat more than a cup's worth but didn't and since a week ago Thurs was my fill I certainly feel the restriction, I only get hungry about every 4 to 5 hrs and at night if I get hungry I grab a low fat string cheese. I didn't call my dr this morning as I really didn't see a need to. I will be mindful of my eating and chewing and food choices as some foods I could eat a week ago I may not be able to eat now, toast may be one of them. As the band gets tighter and tighter I don't understand what everyone eats to get protein in on a daily basis if for instance you are unable to tolerate chicken or red meat or pork chops anymore, what the heck do you eat besides fish? I will get tired of fish everyday however I do eat it several times a week but as it stands right now well as of last week I was able to tolerate a baked pork chop with fat free mushroom soup for gravy on it, a baked chicken breast, I don't do red meat or ground meat of any kind. -
thanks for the great read Jean! Makes me want to pull out my book from you again and read it again for reminders...

yea, I live with my 74 yr old mom since my divorce and she is about to learn the look instead of me holding up a finger, ha ha ha. You're funny. Yes you are right, I just may not be able to eat toast anymore like I did a week ago. And by all means I do want to continue to lose, woohoo, so I'd rather stay where I'm at and do without those foods like white food like breads and rice I tried to eat with baked fish the other day and got stuck. Rice isn't my friend either. Oh and how I miss it too. But 58 lbs gone feels too good. BTW you look fantastic in your profile pic. Can't wait to look skinny in mine and feel brave to post a full body one. -
Jean, have you learned another language? lol

thanks for the info. I usually hiccup too when I get to that just right "soft stop" indication but since my fill last Thurs, not yesterday, I have noticed I feel like a hiccup but it is like a lump in my throat and then it comes back up and this has happened 3 times already. I know what you mean about eating out and talking but my mom knows I can't talk while eating, lol, and boy does she know when that finger goes up she knows "oh boy, she's stuck and then I'm gone to the restroom", it's like wait a minuite mom, I'll be back kind of thing, ha ha. I'm more mindful of my eating while out than at home and I'm bad about that and need to learn. Thanks you guys. -

thanks for all your comments. This really feels like stuck episodes as I've had plenty but I cannot explain the lump in my throat and the wanting to PB, never had that before, with that said, I do have pain in the center like I'm stuck. The turkey yesterday was a little dry although it had a little gravy on it and I didn't eat but half a piece and not all the green beans and that was only 2 tsp and that wasn't heaping tsps so if I had to guess at the amount of food it wasn't a cup. I am going thru some very very extreme personal issues with my divorce that are causing me severe stress at this time and dealing with my atty and my ex. You'd think after being divorced a yr and half it would all be over with but it's not. I don't know how much more I can take. Anyway, thank you for shedding the light on this and I wasn't sure whether stress played a role in the band and I wasn't sure whether or not I was stuck or too full, still not quite sure. Am on mushies and liquids for a few days to let things calm down. -

thanks Vicki, I should also comment I'm under an enormous amount of stress right now, can this play a part in your band and if so what does it do? -
what should I take to the hospital

I agree with others, I didn't bring anything unless you are staying overnight. I did however wish I had brought a bottle of water for the ride home but they sent me with the little pitcher of crushed ice and a cup to crunch on, on the way home which was good cause I was so thirsty. You will neet the Gas X for home and the heating pad. I wore slip on shoes and lounge pants and a tee, something comfy. Good luck. -

Oh and one more thing, I got stuck or got too full on dinner tonight which was a piece of toast with tuna salad on it so it was a half of a sandwhich. -
You look terrific! Way to go, I can't wait till I hit goal. congrats!

Ever since my LB surgery June '12 I have been unable to wear my contacts for some reason. I've had to buy a nice pair of glasses to wear all of the time. It's like my eyes dry out easily and quickly if I put my contacts in. Has anyone else experienced this with surgery?

Today I was out and about and picked up Captain D's seasoned Tilapia with rice, green beans and slaw, had it this past Sunday no problem, of course Sunday wasn't able to eat it all. Glad I was at home today because about 4 bites into it, BAM, I was stuck, oh the pain, immediately began to PB and thank God too, I was in so much pain. I don't know why I wasn't able to eat it today, maybe the rice? I'm just now introducing rice into my diet since being banded. I did get a fill last Thurs. Needless to say I'm sipping on some hot tea right now since everything came back up anyway. I was looking so forward to that baked fish!

Just got stuck-was not fun

for me productive burping or PB'ing is mushed up food I've already eaten that has gotten stuck and without effort it just comes back up, well with maybe a little effort like a burp sensation feeling but the other day I finally threw up at the end. I was sore the rest of the day, finally drank some hot tea and took it easy for dinner that night with soup since I knew my band was aggravated. Being stuck for me is no pretty sight and definately not fun, I've had my share early on while learning my band and if I had to say what happend the other day I was really hungry, didn't concentrate on my bite size and chewing and I also had just gotten a fill so still adjusting to that. -
for me, I have this same issue. Before band, I would binge at night and now, at night, I still have cravings for something either salty or sugary, it's awful. I battle this night after night. I too live with family, my mom since my divorce and she keeps candy, and chips in the house and I cannot and will not deprive her of those foods, she is 74 and has offered a roof over my head as I had nowhere to go, on the otherhand, she is also my biggest cheerleader and is my accountability partner so at night while watching TV I can't snack as she is sitting there and watching me, lol, it is head hunger for me and psychological, it all stems back from old habits. I thoroughly sympathize with you as I feel the same way. Sometimes at night I grab a light string cheese or ff greek yogurt with fruit in it. I've come this far to turn back and I certainly do not want to go back to who I was on the day of surgery.

You know I haven't seen that come thru on any news but my brother and his wife live in Nashville and hear all sorts of stuff and told me and my mom since she and I eat at those 2 places frequently, well, Red Lobster at least twice a month. I eat the salmon at Longhorn, love it, I usually split it with my mom. Haven't been brave enough to try steak yet since being banded but am craving a filet, that might be my next venture. yikes...lol Glad to know that you are getting a Longhorn and a new one so maybe the rumor is false and they are all three owned by the same parent company. I don't have them where I live here in Western Kentucky I have to travel over the border into TN about 30 mins to eat there. Going back to the filet, sheesh, I'm hungry now, I think I may go to the grocery tomorrow and buy a couple, I like to bake them in the oven seasoned with garlic salt and pepper and it tastes like a tender roast and one would be enough for myself and my mom to share since I live with her. Yep, sounds like a plan. Ha! -

sorry Capt D's is far away from you. My fav is Red Lobster but I've heard them, Olive Garden and Lonhorn are all going bankrupt and will no longer be and I hate that. I do not do Olive Garden anymore but love the other two very much. LIke I said Red Lobster is my fav unless I'm on the Gulf Coast and can get fresh seafood then I'm in Heaven! MMMM, I sure could eat me some fresh grilled Grouper right about now! I know why in world did I have to go there, right? -
I catch myself comparing myself to others and like my surgeon said the other day when I was in for a fill, slow and steady wins the race. I'm 8 mos post op and down 57 lbs. It's coming off slow but each month I lose, that's less pressure off of knees and hip joints and heart muscle.

Missy, thanks, and I think you are right, I was in a hurry, I was especially hungry at the time and shoved it in and was not mindful of what I was doing. The hot tea seemed to help. Yes I will be more careful next time and try and not let myself get so hungry. -
well I'm 8 mos post op and even tho me and my nutritionist differ on this and well I guess it depends on how much you have in your band but I do fine with shrimp. She tells me not to that it can easily get stuck but I've never gotten stuck on shrimp. As far as cake goes, I do not make it a habit of it as I've come too far on my journey but believe me I have a major sweet tooth and on my mom's birthday which was Feb 15 I ordered her a small 9" Italian Cream Cake double layer and I indulged on a very small sliver of a piece well it caused me to gain a half pound so to me it's not worth it, yes it tastes good but it's the bad habits that I used to have and I would rather sink into some protein rich sweets like greek yogurt with fruit on bottom or sugar free hard candy like Crystal Light makes hard candy that I love. I just stay away from cookies, cakes, cupcakes and things like that. Yes I may have a cookie occassionally but not that often, can't honestly tell you the last time I had one and yes they are in the house as I live with my mom since my divorce and she eats those types of things. I also keep skinny cow choc. candy goodies around for special treats, again, don't make a diet of them but have them ever so often. Hope this answers your question.

I'm same as you 8 mos out and my first 6 mos were awful due to gallstones/gallbladder issues but my surgeon didn't know it at the time. my pain was in my back and I was nauseated and vomiting all of the time, living on nausea meds and pain meds constantly. Dec 3rd I had mine taken out and thank goodness I did as when he got in there it was so diseased what should have taken 45 mins surgery took 3 hrs and I ended up with a drainage tube in my abdomen and staying over night in the hospital. Not something you want to put off and certainly not something you want to head out to sea and have an emergency have Coast Guard come and take you off and head to a foreign country for surgery. Yes call your dr to see if you can get in if not go to ER asap. I feel 100% better now.

Centennial Hospital has a good bariatric center. I had my surgery here where I live, Western Kentucky just so that I would be close to home for emergencies and for fills but would not hesitate on dr's at Centennial. Good luck.
