Thanks I needed this, I get stuck sometimes and its mostly because I didn't chew well or too big of bite or in a hurry and gobble it down (old habits). I just got a fill yesterday so I will try this method, thank you. I'm 9 mos post op and still have to remind myself to chew chew chew.

Had a refill today, omg it was painful
donna12 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to my surgeon last week for a slight unfill .25cc's cause I kept gettting stuck, everything and also heartburn so he took fluid out to calm things down this past week. I took it easy on food choices, mushies, softs, soups, fish, things like that. Guess I had taken in a lot of sodium with soups because I noticed my ankles were swollen yesterday afternoon, luckily I had some Lasix. I took one and boy did it run me, every 20 mins I was peeing for hrs. Got to the dr's today and had lost 4 lbs, well I knew it was the fluid overnight. He ended up putting back in the .25cc's with hopes that things were calmed down inside and not irritated and tight. I will take it easy with meals for a few days. I can finally say that the stress level in my life with my ex has FINALLY settled from our divorce 2 yrs ago so my stress level has calmed down, thank you Lord! On another note, I was able to get outside and walk yesterday for 20 mins, that was an accomplishment for me. It is suppose to rain tomorrow but not Sat so I will do it again Sat. Felt good to be able to walk around the block and not get out of breath. Life is good. -
Like Miranda said, take your time eating and your bite size should be the size of your pinky nail and chew the heck out of it. You will find that some foods you will not be able to eat for instance, I can no longer eat bread, pasta, rice and some days I cannot eat eggs, some days I can, just depends if I wake up tight or not. I miss these foods like pasta and rice but they get stuck and oh I'm craving steak and haven't yet got the courage up to try it yet. There are also some days I can't eat chicken, I will get stuck. Now canned chicken to make chicken salad I do ok with. It is a daily struggle with me too but it is also a learning experience too, I'm 9 mos post op and still learning what I can and cannot eat. Hang in there.

Is liquid Motrin ok?
-
that's very normal. Some even gain during healing, take it easy and let your body heal. Continue with your dr's orders on your diet. Once you get on solids and you are able to exercise you will notice the weight loss. I promise.

congrats, you'll do fine! Big hugs to ya.

Fell off the wagon today totally, so bummed about it

I made poor food choices today, all day today, portions were fine, just poor food choices, even dessert and then chocolate, geez. I knew better and still did it. I'm going thru some stressful things right now, got into it with my ex-husband today which set me off so my whole day has been yuck. On another subject, my metabolism must be non-existant and I mean that truly. I'm 47, had a hysterectomy in '04, take hormone therapy for that and if I don't I get hot flashes and night sweats so still must be going thru menopause, this losing weight is slow to come for me, feeling discouraged at the moment. Tomorrow is another day I guess. Chin up! -

Thanks everyone for your encouraging words and words of kindness, they all meant so much. You'd think afer almost 2 yrs of being divorced we'd be done with things but we're not. My name was still on our marital home of all things and I knew this and he has been in contempt for not getting my name off of the loan and deed but what good would it have done to throw him in jail, he doesn't work, I don't get paid alimony! Thank God no kids involved. This week finally I deed the house over to him but all of this has forced me into bankruptcy because he filed bankruptcy cause he couldn't pay for the 300K house, go figure. This has all taken a toll on my health. To be married to someone for 25 yrs and see him for what he is today, wow. Yesterday I had to travel to Nashville to the dr which took all day with travel time, eating out and my appt, my mom and I chose to eat at Red Lobster, we shared fried flounder, I had one piece of fish, 2 bites of baked potato and 4 bites of cole slaw and the kicker was the biscuit, yes I was able to get down a buttery biscuit, that's my guilt. Then on the way home I was starving and realized I didn't want to wait on myself cooking something when I got home so I stopped at Cracker Barrel and got a bowl of beef stew, cherry cobbler to go. When I got home I ate half of the stew and 3 bites of the cobbler and mom ate the rest. Oh it didn't end there, this is confession time, I ate 4 white chocolate Lindtz. This was all my guilty pleasure from yesterday and today I stepped up on the scale and have gained 1.5 lbs since last Thurs when I was in for an unfill, OMG! I'm embarrassed, my dr will die... Today didn't start out so well, I kind of ate a slider food for breakfast, cream of wheat but I felt tight and didn't really want anything else. I hope it stays with me for a few hrs since it didn't contain any protein to speak of. Ok, ya'll from one southern gal, there you have my guilty pleasures of yesterday. I'm dusting myself off and starting over. Thanks again for the encouragement. Donna -

Karan, are you able at this point to take a tub bath being 10 days post op or do you still have stitches/steri strips or glue on your incisions? If you are ok to do this take a warm bath to relieve the pain and relax the colon. -

I have to agree with Ali above, I am 9 mos post op but was in your condition 7 days post op and was vomiting and in so much pain from consitpation. My surgeon suggested everything from warm prune juice, teas, laxatives, stool softeners, suppositories, finally my went and bought a bottle of Magnesium Citrate, its yucky but it cleaned me out, I of course didn't drink the entire bottle. Hope you feel better soon. After this episode, take a daily dose of stool softener and laxative like Senna S to keep you regular. We are so used to eating gobs of food and high fatty foods and we all of the sudden change our diet that it messes with our colon. -
what does it tastes like?

In your opinion do you lose more weight with lap band with plication than without? Just wondering? My surgeon does not do the plication procedure which now I'm kinda bummed if it speeds up the process, however I'm happy with my weight loss thus far and proud of it because 9 mos ago I could hardly walk, bend over, breathe. This has been a life altering experience, for the better and can only get better as I lose more. I average 3 to 4 lbs a month. I am just now able to exercise, have experienced probs up until now and with weather getting nice here I will be able to get outside and walk at least to start out.

For the past 2 1/2 weeks maybe 3 since my last fill I've been getting stuck and PB'ing a lot even on fish, things I'm used to eating so I went in to see my surgeon this afternoon and he took out what he put in 3 weeks ago .25 cc's to calm down my stomach and band and put me on liquids and soft foods for the next few days, well liquids first of course. He wasn't too happy with me that I had let it go this long without letting him know, oops. Also I was getting heartburn and I take something for heartburn every day and still got it. I have another appt next Thurs and he said he would evaluate me then and maybe things will have calmed down enough to put some of that back in, maybe not all but some. Boy did it ever hurt when he poked me and was pulling out the fluid, he was laughing while I was ouching. I'm a big baby when it comes to pain, what can I say.

thanks for the info, I take Omeprazole everday among a lot others but my doc calls that in because it is cheaper than buying over the counter. I will check into drug companies for one of mine as it is very expensive, very expensive.

Wished I would have known, I just took 4 garbage bags of winter clothes mostly Coldwater Creek 3X 24/26 sweaters to Goodwill, looked brand new, took them 2 weeks ago, I however am petite and not as small as you on the bottom. Good luck. -
thanks everyone, I go Wed. late afternoon. I had Gordon's Skillet Tilapia for lunch and got stuck on that so for dinner tonight I fixed instant mashed potatoes, slider I know but was not hungry much and it sounded good and didn't want to get stuck again. Will take it easy till I see him Wednesday.

I went in 3 wks ago for a fill, since then I've been getting stuck, having heartburn. I mean geez, what can I eat? I go in and tell the dr I got stuck and he asks what did you get stuck on and I tell him chicken and he says yea most people can't eat chicken well then what the heck are we supposed to eat? This morning I cooked a scrambled egg and piece of toast, got stuck after 3 bites of toast and 3/4's of the egg, there again, my question is, what the heck are we to eat? Prior to getting my fill I was constantly hungry, getting hungry between meals and not losing so I needed the fill, maybe it was too much of a fill, idk. I am to go in for a fill or to see him on the 28th. I just don't know what the green zone is and what it feels like. I mean I can go 4 hrs between meals sometimes more depending on what I eat but this month since my fill I have found myself eating slider foods like soups (like homemade chicken taco soup or bean soup). I gag at the thought of eating hamburger meat and chewing it because of gristles so I don't do that anymore. The last time I had a pork chop was a couple of wks ago and got stuck. I'm sick of fish as that is all I eat and I love chicken. I'm so frustrated!
-
thank you. I will try that. I really hate to get an unfill because I have lost in the last 3 wks. Thanks for all your all's advice, I do take it serious!

hey CG be nice bout them cats...just kidding. We bleed blue. Ok, I think I'm chewing and I think I'm the chew chew train, even this past Friday I was at Cracker Barrel and ate child's plate of grilled chicken tenders, cut them into tee tiny bites and chewed really well, ended up getting stuck. And that was only after one chicken tender and a few bites of green beans, had to stop and excuse myself, of course my mom knew the look, lol. I'm so confused.

Catfish no wonder you knew where Hoptown was, you threw me for a loop...ha ha ha. No he doesn't fill me with fluoro, just a feel around and poke and I'm done. I do love my surgeon, he's great but even fish gets stuck. I'm at a loss here. I did put in a call to his office since I've got the reflux going on and I'm on Omeprazole daily and still have it. I'd tell ya to come back home and I'd fix you some red eye gravy, lol. I don't eat it but remember it as a child growing up. Thanks for your advice. Donna

let me clarify on the chicken taco soup, I make it with canned chicken, I can eat that kind of chicken because I can shred it but when it comes to baking a chicken breast and eating it, no way.
