BCBS~ Anyone have any idea how long BCBS takes to approve process....
donna12 replied to ggm's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I at the time of start to finish had BCBS of Michigan but live in Ky, was on my ex's policy at the time, from start to finish it was like 5 weeks from first visit to surgery day, my BMI was 52.5 and that is why I didn't have to wait and my surgeon's office called and got me approved and bam there I was sitting in the hospital ready for it before I knew it. Now I have Anthem BCBS of KY which doesn't apply since I've had my surgery last June. Good luck. -
maybe i misunderstood the doctor mine had to be cut away from something, it was misplaced in there, not where it should have been he said, didn't know it was normal to have it attached to the liver, maybe I was wrong on that one, sorry.

I'm almost 10 mos post op lap band and had my gallbladder removed Dec 3rd. for the first 6 mos of my journey I was pretty much sick everyday, little did I know it was gallstones and gallbladder. I was nauseated, vomiting some and pain like Missy said, contractions but mine were in my back. My surgeon that did my lap band is also a general surgeon so he removed my gallbladder. Once in there he said it was so diseased and had attached itsself to my liver that he had to carefully cut it away and I lost a lot of blood. Ended up what was suppose to have been a same day surgery spending the night in the hospital with a drainage tube in my side so needless to say I was slow going to recover but geel great now. Best wishes to you and hope all goes well with you, keep us posted. Big hugs.

All I can tolerate is liquids, soft and mushies

thank you so much for thinking of me. Actually today I did feel better. Still taking it easy with food, Soups and soft foods as my throat is swollen and my band is tight. Still have this awful cough but today I felt human again...lol, not amongst the dead. I guess they tested me for both types at Walgreens walk in clinic, heck I don't know, all I know is they tested me. This junk is finally breaking up in my chest and I can at least cough it up now, sorry for the grossness. I live with my 74 yr old mom, she makes a good nurse, blessed to have her. -

I will soon be 10 mos post op and I'm very sick right now, coughing my head off, nasal drainage, fever, and sore and swollen throat from coughing so much. I tested negative for strep and flu. Tried to eat an egg this morning and got sick and stuck then followed up with a bite of yogurt and also threw that up from gagging. My throat is so sore and swollen that it is giving me a sensation of gagging and a wanting of throwing up all the time. All I can tolerate is drinking, did have greek yogurt this afternoon and some soup tonight. I called my surgeon but he didn't seem concerned, oh well. Guess I will be sick for the next few days and deal with it. Glad I just bought some protein shakes. Still not convinced its not the flu, sigh. -

aw thank you countrygrl. I slept off/on last night in my recliner with a Dachshund in my lap...lol Kept waking up coughing. My mom went to church this morning but I didn't so she brought home Wendy's chili which I was able to eat so I got some good Protein in that. Feel a little more human today well this afternoon that is. Still coughing my head off but don't feel as achy. Mad that I am not feeling up to taking a walk outside as it is 74 degrees here in Western Ky today. Maybe I will feel like it in the next few days, its suppose to be nice this week. Thanks again for thinking of me. Donna -
I hate to tell you this but I was stuck on broccoli for 5 hrs one night until someone told me to take a sip of Sprite and sure enough the fizz brought everything up. You might just be irritated in there from PB'ing (producting burping) which is normal. You should take it easy for the next 24 hrs, like liquids. Try sipping on some hot tea or coffee, that always helped me. Sorry you got stuck. I've had plenty of those episodes.

still feverish, achy, coughing a lot, congested, headache and feeling down right awful today and since my cough had gone on since Tues the dr I saw yesterday gave me a Zpack, now I have diarrhea from that, sheesh, I can't catch a break. Was able to eat cream of wheat this morning and some soup for dinner. My mom had a delicious looking salad tonight I wanted to dive in so bad but knew better, knew I'd get stuck so just ate my soup. My head is all stopped up. Be glad when this mess is all gone. -

The only support system I have is you guys and my 74 yr old mom who is my biggest cheerleader and my accountability when it comes to eating. I have an older brother who is married and lives an hr from us but they never once have said you look great, you're doing a great job I'm so proud of you for this decision etc. It's hurtful. I would just love to hear from my sister-in-law or brother once that I look great or they are proud of me, it would mean the world. Lap band is hard work, it's not just you get it and there bam you lose weight, you have to work at it and eat right and the head hunger and the cravings of old foods are still there. Like I said my mom, for one I live with her since my divorce and she needs me too, but she is so supportive, I'm blessed to have her. -

thank you everyone for the well wishes. I got some sleep last night but awoke very early this morning coughing and nearly peed my pants, lol, oh the joys of being a middle aged woman I guess. I have a recliner in my bedroom so I moved from the bed to that and slept for another 3 hrs. I thought I had some Mucinex but didn't so I'm sending my mom out today for some. This stuffiness has moved into my head now. May just sleep in my recliner tonight as its comfy enough. I hate that I'm going to miss church tomorrow but certainly don't want to contaminate others so will stay home. Just ate a bowl of cream of wheat, tolerated that well and it was yummy to me. Not much of an appetite so I'm eating when I'm hungry. Yesterday I only had a bowl of Soup, a few bites of fruit and a greek yogurt. Trying to stay hydrated as much as I can. Water water water and more water, with crystal light of course. lol. Again, thank you all for the well wishes. Donna -

yes the doctor today gave me a Zpack and an inhaler since he heard wheezing. I went to a Walgreens walk in clinic yesterday and they tested me for flu, it was negative, but today I saw a doctor. I may have some mucinex. I will give it a whirl tomorrow, thanks for the suggestion. I might could try some crackers and let them get soft in my mouth before I chew and swallow then take the mucinex. -
I can see me now, a turtleneck in June....bahahaha

Honesty is the best policy but it is no ones business but your own. I chose to tell but regret it in some ways. I have a close friend that asks all of the time "how much weight have you lost now" and it's like some kind of contest or something I don't know, it's uncomfortable. Her mom and I are close and I've know the daughter all her life and love her dearly like she's my own and her mom is losing weight on her own and the daughter is all of the time saying mom is down 22 lbs isn't that great and all the while thats great and I'm happy for her, I sure couldn't have done it on my own thus the reason for the surgery, the daughter keeps asking how much weight have you lost. It just kind of hurts I guess. Though my progress is slow I'm proud of my 62 lbs. Good luck on your decision. -
very sick-does coughing affect the band
donna12 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am very sick coughing non-stop and gagging from it, fever, headache, nasal drainage, sore throat. Went to a walk in clinic today because that is all I had access to and they tested me for flu, came back negative, said it was viral and had to run its course, gave me cough med and other meds but nothing is helping the cough. Can coughing this much and this hard affect the band? Thanks Donna -

This crap ain't no joke! I feel like death. I tried to eat a hard boiled egg this morning and got stuck, then tried yogurt, got stuck, guess all the mucus and drainage. I called my surgeon and he told me to go to the hospital walk in clinic. Well I went to a walk in clinic yesterday at Walgreens, no I didn't see a "quote unquote dr" just a nurse Pract. but today I seem to be worse, coughing up mess and this morning it was pink like blood in it but I just figured maybe from a bloody nose during the night, sorry to be so gross. The walk in clinic at the hospital is open all weekend so I will give it till tomorrow or sunday morning maybe. Lordy I feel like crap. -

thank you creekwood, I do too, I haven't been this sick in a long time. Sure thought it was the flu. -
Had an unfill week before last to calm everything down from getting stuck a lot and went in this past Thurs and got the .25cc's put back in and so far, all is good. I remember reading a post on here not too long ago that someone suggested saying your ABC's while chewing every bite. Yes even at 9 months post op I still get in a hurry, or take too big of bites or don't chew well and end up getting stuck, still learning how to eat I guess. Well, since Friday I've been counting my alphabet and sometimes starting over and let me tell you it works for me, thank you to whoever posted that suggestion. I think I'm finally learning not to gobble food down like we're all used to doing. I was even able to tolerate a roll cut in half with some ham and cheese on it for a sandwich Saturday. Usually can't eat bread of any kind but I chewed the heck out of it. Lovin my band!

do you make your breadless crab cakes or buy them, they sound delicious? Donna

my indulge was a snack of popcorn this afternoon, I couldn't help myself, other than that, I've eaten good all day, hope it didn't do too much damage to the scales.

Any Happy Bandsters Out There With 5 or More Years Of Banding?
donna12 replied to NeenBand's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Thanks Wendy for your suggestions and your wonderful insight. I usually can't eat bread but for some reason this roll was airy if that makes sense and I put some turkey and cheese on it with a little lite mayo and took tiny bites and chewed the heck out of it and it went ok with me. I had a fill this past week so I was almost scared to do it but I did. I don't do Pasta, rice or bread either. I eat a lot of fish, salmon well thats fish, duh, chicken, chicken salad, tuna salad, low fat cheese quesadilla grilled in a non stick skillet sprayed with pam. I live in Western Kentucky and I live with my 74 yr old mom so when we go out we end up sharing a meal and that will consist of some kind of grilled fish unless we go to a Cracker Barrel then I will get a bowl of Beans or a bowl of beef stew. That's about it for me with the exception of veggies and fruits and greek yogurt. I can't bring myself to eat ground beef, don't want to run into a gristle, ew. Early on I ate a burrito from Taco Bell, which I love or did until I ran into a gristle and it grossed me out so since Aug I haven't been able to stomach ground meat of any kind. Oh and I do make a good crock pot of chicken taco Soup, that keeps me going but just was looking for variety. What are some of the websites you are talking about? Thanks Donna -

I don't mean to butt in this conversation since I'm kind of new, I'm 9 mos post op and down 62 lbs. Would love some words of advice, encouragement and also what do you eat on a daily basis and how much? I was actually able to eat a small half sandwich today with a roll instead of bread with turkey on it, surprised me and didn't get stuck. I read on here the other night that someone suggested saying the ABC's with every chew and that's what I did and took extremely tiny bites which I'm still learning, I know, don't chastize me, but today went well with the sandwich for lunch. I'm getting tired of the same things to eat on a daily basis, need some suggestions??? What all do you guys eat? How have you lost the weight? Did you exercise at first? I'm just now introducing walking. Thanks in advance for any insight. Donna -
ideas/advice on not drinking while eating
donna12 replied to str1349's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I feel ya! It was the hardest struggle for me to overcome but now, now it's second nature to me and I'm 9 mos post op. When I go out to eat sometimes I order a water and drink right up to eating if I'm thirsty and sometimes I just tell them I don't want anything to drink, it's none of their business as I see it, let them look at us strange. I just say I don't drink while I eat and laugh it off. When I'm home, I do the same, I drink only bottled water with crystal light and I will drink right up to mealtime and then I eat. I have stopped eating anything spicy to make me want to drink or anything really salty. I know its hard, really hard but I just do it. I wait an hour after meals to drink and sometimes I even lose track of time and before I know it its been 2 hrs, sheesh. With that said, there are times I count the clock waiting to take that first sip, like right now! Its just something you have to train yourself and get used to, I know thats not a lot of comfort for you but if you want to stay full and not wash the food down, you cannot drink. I have been known to take a tiny and I mean tiny sip after eating to satisfy me till I can drink. In the beginning someone suggested to me taking a piece of ice and putting it in your mouth letting it melt a min then spitting it back out to get your mouth moist to help out with thirst. I did this and it did help me along the way. -
ok, since we are on the subject of splenda, I love love love Oikos greek yogurt with blueberries in the bottom but I have to add splenda to it to sweeten up the yogurt part, gags me to eat the bitter greek yogurt. Any suggestions? I love getting Protein, Calcium and its a go to snack for me when I'm hungry at night. Thanks
