Things I LOVE about my sleeve!
desert19 replied to suepeeps's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love that I like myself again!!! I love clothes shopping now, and looking in the dressing room mirror and having things fit and look great. I love having to get all my rings sized down so they will stop falling off my fingers! -
I cannot believe it - I made it to goal today!!! Wow, what do I do now?
-
Make sure you get lots of protein in and drink lots of water. Look for ways to add activity to your daily life in addition to any exercise you do. You will have stalls along the way so just be prepared for them. Don't fret, just keep eating the right stuff and your loss will start downward again. Don't let it become a big psychological killer. Enjoy your new life!

Hello everyone. I just reached goal today - now what do I do? -
what is a good alternative to morphine since morphine doesent work to well
desert19 replied to jacee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am allergic to morpine and dilaudid, so the Dr put me on Toradol, which worked really well for me. -
Congratulations!!! I am coming up on my 1 year anniversary, so I totally understand where you are coming from. You rock!!

I have IBS and have been sleeved for 11 months. I have not had a single flare up since I had surgery. I think because we are very regulated on what we should eat, that I am not eating the stuff that would have set me off in the past. I have been very surprised actually.

Please help! I am completely freaked out!
desert19 replied to drea22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Best thing you can do is stop weighing every day, it will drive you insane. I weigh every Sunday morning before breakfast. Your weight will fluctuate daily, so if you only do it once a week you won't be subjected to seeing that. Yes, you will have stalls and maybe even a few weight gains. Our bodies need time to stabilize along the journey. As long as you know you are eating correctly and doing all the things you should be, just keep doing them and your weight will eventually start downwards again. Be patient and kind to yourself. This isn't a race but a journey that changes our lives. -
What comfort items did you take to surgery?
desert19 replied to buffythefatslayer's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I took my pillow and a really soft throw size blanket. -
I thought I was going to get away without my feet shrinking, but in the last couple weeks I have noticed that my feet have gotten narrower. The shoe size is the same, but all my shoes and sandals are way to loose. Add new shoes to go with a whole new wardrobe. It gets expensive, but gee, what a wonderful problem to have!!!

Main things are to have faith in yourself and realize getting through the hard parts are worth it. Follow what your surgeon and nutritionist say. Concentrate on getting your protein in is rule #1. Being active doesn't necessarily mean being in a gym, find ways to work it into your life such as taking stairs, parking clear at the end of the parking lot, etc. Also, start taking Biotin now to help minimize hair loss. My other recommendation is to get some professional counseling prior to surgery to help you work through some of the issues that cause us to overeat. I am so glad I did that, I only did 3-4 sessions, but it was invaluable. Concentrate on the positives on this website and not the negative things that people say.

I am from St. George. Had my surgery 11 months ago today and it has changed my life!! Have you had your surgery yet?

I can't stop cheating on my pre-opt diet. :(
desert19 replied to Amie's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
It is hard to fight those psychological demons, no doubt about that. I got through those times in my pre-op diet when challenge presented itself by reminding myself why I was on the liquid diet in the first place: to help decrease the chance of my liver breaking while being moved during the surgery. I simply did not want that complication to happen. I also reminded myself I was going through this to get to the surgery that I really wanted so I could start my life over again. Which did I want more, something to eat or did I want a new life? -
It's still all about choices! What's for lunch?
desert19 replied to NtvTxn's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I am having a 1/2 can of tuna mixed with fat free feta cheese and low fat miracle whip. This is one of my favorite lunches. Easy to fix and to pack to work. A whole can makes lunch for 2 days! Plus my cat loves the water drained off the tuna, it's a special treat to him. -
I keep a bag of pistachios at work for the afternoons I need a little something. They are my favorite, and getting them out of the shell makes you eat them one at a time.

coffee or no coffee?
desert19 replied to angelamarie79's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I specifically asked my surgeon, as this would have been harder to give up than pop. He said he had no problem with it, go ahead and enjoy it. He didn't even tell me to wait a specific period before drinking it. -
A thread for people who dont argue, name call, dictate or generally just be nasty.
desert19 replied to AussieLady's topic in The Lounge
The arm is doing okay, just will take some time to heal. I am all for going to Australia - have always wanted to travel there and see the Great Barrier Reef. -

i am glad I found this thread. Haven't been coming here as much as it was getting rather negative. But I am off work for a month following surgery on my arm, so decided to check back in (plus starting to go a little stir crazy). Hurray for uplifting and positive thoughts about our new lives!! -
March Sleevers..are You Happy W/your Progress?
desert19 replied to DDFinn's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
i was sleeved on 3/14/12. I have lost 103 lbs. I am so excited with my new life (not so excited with all the extra skin, but I will take care of that later.) Close to my original goal, but think I want to lose an additional 10 lbs. I never would have believed this was possible a year ago, even in my best dreams. Never have regretted it for a minute! -
I gained weight at 3 weeks - screamed when I saw it on the scale! Then I told myself I have been following the program they gave me, so I know it's not from eating wrong. So I knew if I just kept eating what I sould be, the weight would eventually start back down, and it did. Hang in there!
-
You may also want to consider some professional counseling to gain some tools to deal with the head hunger. I went to quite a bit before the surgery, and I am so thankful I took that step.
-
I have had the same issue with stool softeners. Suggestion to take every other day is good. You might also try some fiber gummies or something like that to add fiber to your intake rather than the stool softener.

Relatively new; anyone have a child with autism?
desert19 replied to smt216's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have a son with autism. He is now 22, and fairly high functioning although will probably always live with me. Since I am a single parent, I realized I needed to get my act in gear. -

HOW TO FIX "mental" BEFORE SURGERY
desert19 replied to Jessica9190's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Get professional counseling of some kind. I went to quite a bit before surgery and after. It really helps to have someone to work things through with.
