    why not chug water

I think the sipping is just during the healing stages after surgery. I chug my water now too, as I can not get enough in if I just sit and drink on it all day. I have to force myself to get enough water. I never drank a lot of anything before surgery so this is a new concept to me.
  3. I am between 500-1000 calories a day depending on my hunger level that day. I still do one or two protein shake a day in addition to lean meats and veggies. I don't get dizzy or cranky since I have gotten used to it. I am scared to go back to 1200 or more calories a day as that was what I was on for my 6 month supervised nutrition before surgery and I did not lose any weight. I have lost 36 lbs total now since lower my calories, plush I have increased my activity. I do drink a good bit of water a day but no where close 100 oz I don't think. I am closer to 64 oz and do just fine for me.

  5. I had my surgery on 1/17/13, and I have to say for me personally, waking up in recovery was the worst part of the whole thing. That was the only time it hurt. The pain was from my largest incision where they went in and out more they said. They gave me some pain med in my iv and that was the end of it. I went in at 8:00 am and was back home by 2:30 I think. I took my liquid meds at 9:00 when I went to bed and got up at 3:30 to take another dose and that was the end of my pain to the point I needed medication. I was sore getting in and out of bed and slept a lot the next two days but other than that I can not complain. I have not had any port pain at all and mine is on my right side about 3 inches from my belly button. I did have a hernia repaired. I walked a lot up and down the hall way in the house for three days and was back to normal. I was told not to lift anything over 10 pounds for 2 weeks, so I haven't. I have to give my surgeon props for a job well done!! Good Luck and I pray you have a speedy recovery too.
  6. As long as you aren't still on pain meds you should be ok to drive. I was told after my surgery, not to lift anything over 10 lbs for 2 weeks

    Looking for answers...

Yes drinking during eating is that important. That is one of the biggest rules they have thought me.

Are you tracking your calories? Are you getting your heart rate up for 20 - 30 mins. at least three times a week. Change up your workout too. alternate between cardio one day and weight training the next. Most of all, you need to know how many calories you are taking in and burn more off.

Lapband and that time of the month??

Ok, I am sure things are ok, but just want some reassurance I guess. I had a period prior to surgery. First day of last was the 7th. Surgery was the 17th. I just started again this morning. I have never had two in one month and have been right as rain, like a clock every 28 days my whole life. Do you think it is from the surgery that is messing with my system? Just asking

    The dreaded BM talk

Me too . I am hoping I will be good through class today. Its a two hour class and a 45 minute drive both ways. I am a bit nervous but I am thinking it may be out of my system by now. I took 4 tsps last night about 5:00 and it was working by 7:00. Best Wishes

    The dreaded BM talk

I just took MOM last night. It was working within hours, literally. No cramping at all. Just stay close to the bathroom for about the next 8-10 hours. Good Luck. BTW I feel SO much better.

    Mushie stage

I am at a loss myself. I have done eggs, so I went back to protein shakes this morning. I don't know what else you can do for breakfast that is mushie.
  13. That is so sad. I think I would have asked to speak with my doctor, and ask her to repeat in front of them what she just said. If nothing else, call your doctors office and tell them how you felt. Sorry you had a bad day, hope tomorrow is better

    Pasta!

  15. You may have to delay surgery, but yes you can still change surgeons. Just because you have completed everything doesn't mean you are on the table yet. Have you done a background check on your surgeon?

    Pasta!

I just ate there today. the salmon was actually very good. I will not get the broccoli again, it was not very good at all. I believe you can ask for whole wheat pasta instead also. Just a suggestion.

I didn't time myself really this time. I ate a little soup and then stopped before I knew I would get full. When my salmon came I just cut it in half and ate that then asked for a box. When I am home I measure and time.

Well I just over came one obstacle. We went shopping and they wanted to stop and eat so we went to Olive Garden. I had a little bit of soup, grilled salmon , and broccoli. I only ate about half my salmon and 1/4 of the soup and a few pieces of broccoli. So proud of myself. I am full too. Before I would have eaten all of the soup, a lot more appetizer and would have had pasta and chicken. Small changes, one step at a time.

    The dreaded BM talk

I have used milk of magnesia before in the past, when I was pregnant. It does not cause cramping that I ever had. It does make you tummy rubble a little though. I may have I go get me some now b/ c I am starting to have trouble. The more protein I get the worse it is.

    Unofficial Pre-Op Dieting Struggles

I am sure you have heard this a hundred times but track your food. Once you see in writing what you are putting in your face it is and eye opener. I was told I would have to track my food and turn in a food log after surgery anyway to start before hand and that helped a lot. Myfitnesspal, is an app and online, there is fitday both online and an app, and then there is lose it as an app. Just an idea, good luck, you will get a handle on this soon the closer you get to surgery.
  23. I have the opposite problem. The protein brings me to screeching halt. In the pre-op I ate clementines a couple times a day to help, but now I can't. I am going after broccoli to steam tomorrow and see if that helps.
  24. I have found most people (family and friends) object because they don't have the proper information. They are uneducated on the topic. People only remember the horror stories they have seen and heard, so they are only going to think negative. Learn as much as you can about the lapband and slowly educate them about it. Once they see how well you do with it and how healthy you will be they will be there for you. If not, my theory is they weren't not your friend or loved you to begin with.
