Banded Fried Chicken - Supplied By Registered Dietician
NettaRue posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
July 6th, is National Fried chicken Day! One of my favorite dishes is fried chicken but we all know how unhealthy fried chicken can be! The nutritionist (she is a registered dietician) supplied this recipe for those that can eat regular food on their banded journey. So....below are some healthier options to Celebrate this wonderful day 1) Perdue simply smart lightly breaded chicken 140-190 calories, 5g fat, 400mg sodium, 6-8g carbs, 0g Fiber, 1g sugar, 17-29g Protein 2) Morningstar Farms Chik Patties Original 140 calories, 5g fat, 590mg sodium, 16g carbs, 2g fiber, 1g sugar, 8g protein 3) Applegate natural chicken nuggets For 7 nuggets: 180 calories, 9g fat, 210mg sodium, 12g carbs, 0g fiber, 0g sugar, 12g protein Also, here's a recipe to make your own! Ingredients: 1/3 cup reduced-fat buttermilk 1/8 tsp. paprika 12 oz. raw boneless skinless lean chicken breast tenders (about 10 pieces) 1/3 cup Fiber One bran Cereal (original) 1/3 cup panko breadcrumbs (like the kind by Progresso) 1 tbsp. dry onion Soup mix Optional: salt, to taste Directions: In a large sealable container or plastic bag, combine buttermilk with paprika and mix well. Add chicken and coat completely. Seal and refrigerate for at least 1 hour. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Prepare a large baking sheet by spraying it with nonstick spray. Set aside. Using a blender or food processor, grind Fiber One cereal to a breadcrumb-like consistency. Pour crumbs into a large bowl. Add panko breadcrumbs and onion soup mix. If you like, add a dash or two of salt. Mix thoroughly. One at a time, remove each piece of chicken from container/bag, give it a shake (to get rid of excess buttermilk), coat it evenly with the crumb mixture, and lay it flat on the baking sheet. Bake in the oven for 10 minutes. Flip carefully (tongs work well!), and then bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until outsides are crispy and chicken is cooked through. CRUNCH time! MAKES 2 SERVINGS Serving Size: 1/2 of recipe, about 5 pieces Calories: 315 Fat: 5g Sodium: 586mg Carbs: 25.5g Fiber: 5g Sugars: 3g Protein: 43g -

Looking for size 22 clothes
NettaRue replied to Hopefully's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hopefully, I have a black coat. I believe that one of the pockets may be torn on the inside but its yours if you want it. It's a nice coat. -
@MsRhonda, it's not like that all of the time, but I wonder how often this occurs close to the holiday. The hours are not really client friendly either but hey, the facility is all encompassing so I won't complain...

Tammy, I was there on Friday to get a fill and it was very rushed but I don't believe the ball was dropped on Friday but sometime before then. My appointment was at 3:15pm and they moved it up to 1:45 pm. I'm assuming Priscilla handled the paperwork? I had to do a psych evaluation to submit to the insurance company but nothing about a modification plan. I would go back to the nutritionist and ask her to notate that your initial exercise will be walking. I would ask them to resubmit your paperwork. Who knows? It might have been the insurance approver who is not up to date on the new requirements as of February. I know there were alot of criteria prior to February in order to get approved. I hope this helps and please don't let this discourage you. I was scheduled and for days before my surgery I had to cancel to have minor heart surgery. I did have the surgery about a month and a half later.

I have read some posts that could be viewed as very rude or too direct to say the least, but I believe the overall goal of the rude posts were to treat people worth tough love. Some people can take it, some cannot. For those that cannot deal with it, maybe reach out to some of the nicer people and develop your own personal support system. It might help. For me, I read the posts every now and then.. If I have a question, I pose it. I will say this, sometimes responses are based on how the original posts read. Meaning, if the poster sets up a bad situation, do you really expect positivity? Anyone agreeing with you all the time is lying to you about something.

I too have bcbsil and I didn't have any issues. Was approved in two weeks. Maybe it is how the doctor's office submitted the request. I had my surgery through Day One and they are well versed in the language that is needed to get approved. Maybe you might want to consider changing doctors in addition to appealing. I was never asked about any modification plans..

Hi everyone, Does anyone have a problem eating chicken? Anytime I eat it, even in small bites, if I eat something afterwards, it comes up. I want to say the chicken gets stuck, but I'm not exactly sure what the stuck feeling feels like.

I have tried a lot of versions of chicken. The only kind I could eat was in a cream of mushroom sauce. Outside of that, no luck.

Hi Jenko. No problem. I'm not on here like I probably should be. I'm on Facebook. I'm going to send you my info in a message. -
I had my third fill last Monday and it is kicking my behind. If I try to eat anything solid in the morning (i.e. Scrambled eggs), they get stuck. After PBing, I get the worse headache. Does anyone know what the headache is all about? I never pbed before this fill (I now have about 6 cc in a 10 band). I'm finally getting restriction but the headaches are really bothering me.

Bcbsil: Denied 1St Time. My 2Nd Attempt
NettaRue replied to JSahi's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have bcbs of Illinois and had no problem getting approved. My bmi was 39 and I had slight high blood pressure, that's all. I know the policy used to call for 6 months of nutrition counseling but now only requires one month after February 1st. Maybe it's how your doctor submitted the paperwork. -

My first fill is scheduled for Monday (4 wks after banded) and I'm a little anxious. I have watched YouTube and read some posts and most people say that the fill is not painful. However, I have read that some people have been poked multiple times to find the port. I don't even know what size band I have or if any ccs were added during the original banding process (I plan on asking the doctor on Monday). How does the first fill feel? How do you feel afterwards? What are some best practices? Any advice would be great!!

First Fill Monday, What Should I Expect?
NettaRue replied to NettaRue's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
First fill was pretty painless. Who knew that you can have local anesthesia without a needle and.feel nothing?I don't know what to expect though. I have absolutely no problem drinking anything and the doctor gave me 3 ccs today. Will I feel the tightness tomorrow? -
I was banded on June 18, 2012 and am going in for my first fill on Monday, July 9, 2012. I did really well sticking to the diet prescribed until about a week ago. I guess in my mind, I had restricted myself to be limited but when I ate something and realized that there was no restriction, my mind has done a 180. I know that I have to do seriously better because I really do want to lose weight. I stay hungry all of the time, almost worse than before I was banded. Not to mention that I have a discomfort under my left ribcage that is really annoying. I'm going to ask the surgeon about this on Monday. I have learned, surprisingly, that I stick with the diet best when others are not around. Anyone have any positive suggestions outside of the obvious of "suck it up and stay faithful to the course"?

First Fill Monday, What Should I Expect?
NettaRue replied to NettaRue's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank you everyone. I really hate needles, but I am excited/anxious about Monday. :-) I am hoping that the first is the most difficult because I don't know what to expect. -
Good luck and many prayers to you. Your journey is now beginning.
