Banded 2/27/07 - burping, belching, gas (sorry)
EllieMay replied to EllieMay's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
So far, I am just drinking Protein drinks and Crystal Lite, some apple juice and the only 3 things I have eaten so far are: chicken noodle Soup cottage cheese applesauce I wouldn't think my diet would be a problem right now but maybe it is. I did have complications immediately after surgery - nausea / extreme vomitting for a week and had to go to the ER for IV fluids due to dehydratiobn at one point. I don't know if that is a factor or not. For now, guess I will just belch away..... Ellie -
Sorry to be so graphic but I was banded on 2/27 and I am burping and belching - LOUD belches and sometimes I don't even see them coming !!! I was in Wal-Mart 2 days ago and belched out so loud, all at once with no warning - I was SHOCKED first and then I quickly looked around to find nobody in my aisle so I dashed to another isle so that nobody would realize that I had made that horrible noise !!!! A few minutes later it happened to me again. I go back to work next week and we all work in cubicles, I am surrounded by people and I am scared to death that I am going to embarrass myself royally with all this. I plan to tell the men that I work with about the surgery and that this happens but I am a very polite sort of person and I really don't want to burp or belch out loud. :help: Is the burping / belching common ??? What do you suggest to control it somewhat ??? Thanks in advance, (I'm burping as I type) :paranoid Ellie

I was banded on 2/27/07 and have lost 20 pounds although it has not budged for the last couple of days. I was dreadfully ill, nausea and vomitting and had to be kept an extra day in the hospital, then had to be taken care of by family for another few days. That first week, I had big regrets. Now - I am doing GREAT and I'm so glad I had it done. I cannot imagine putting myself through that much illness had I known that would happen going into the surgery, but in the end, it will be a small price to pay. I can honestly already tell a difference in just losing 20 pounds (I weigh 261 today and I am only 5'2" so that is a lot of weight on such a small person but I already feel better than I did 2 weeks ago at 281 !!! Amazingly, 10 years ago I wore a size 4. My son commented last night that I was too skinny a few years ago, but I had such extreme discipline at that point in my life. I got sick, and just decided to eat whatever I wanted and then created another problem for myself and simply could not lose the weight - in fact, I just continued gaining. Soooo a new chapter in my life has happily just begun !!!! Best to all !!!! Ellie Mae
