June 2012 Sleevers Post Op Check In
MinaT replied to robin33's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Get some gas x Jenni. I am 10 days out and I'm still suffering gas pains. Not all surgeries are a like and not all bodies are a like. I have no problem admitting, this has been extremely hard on me. I still hurt horribly. The gas pains are hard on me, I can barely stand anything chewable (like the vitamins) I can drink Water all day long, but the Protein shakes cause pain. I had a 5 hour surgery with complications. That's my reality, it's not everyones though. Do what you think you can and don't base what you can do on others or it will drive you crazy. I lost 70 pounds before surgery during the 6 month pre-approval period. Day of surgery i weighted 229 - I came home at 235 - I am now 224.6. That's not a huge loss, but I know in the end - when I'm healed, I will excel and I will do a great job. Having an autoimmune disorder Lupus and neurological issues (brain tumor) i'm not going to heal as fast as others, and I can get down about it, but I'm not going to. Make sure you keep taking the gas x and watch any gassy producing Soups (a few teaspoons of broccoli cheddar Soup with no broccoli pieces caused me serious tears and I swear I felt like I was having a heart attack). I walked a few hours a day and still have gas issues. I honestly thought I was going to breeze through this surgery because I'm a pretty tough cookie, but it's just a set back. I got my drain out yesterday and my pain was cut in 1/2. The drain was up against my diaphragm and causing breathing difficulties. I'm still coughing a bit, but that's getting better now too. I am so happy that so many are doing good so soon. I don't feel jealous, I just figure it's my lot, and I can take it, and in the end it will equal out. -
How are you doing?? Are things starting to get easier on you? I hope you are doing well.

Ugh, I have supposedly another 4 -5 weeks of liquid. I can't even get the liquid in I need. I want instant mashed potatoes with cheese and Tabasco, because someone was talking about Tabasco today. I know I can't handle it, because I can barely handle my liquids.
-
So so so very happy for you Gene! Complications and issues are not the norm, I got dealt a bit of a bad hand, but I'm starting to feel a little more human 10 days out.

Advancing Diet Sooner Than Reccomended
MinaT replied to mkamai's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am forcing a little protein a day in. At 10 days out I was able to get in 1 ounce of yogurt 5 hours ago and still don't think I can handle any protein shake. I read bean and bacon soup blended but I am supposing that is something to wait until pureed stage? 5 weeks of liquid, I can't figure out what to have that won't give me extreme and violent gas pains. I literally had a few teaspoons of cheddar broccoli soup with no chunks in it and the pain in my shoulder and under my ribs felt like a heart attack. I'm actually scared to have soup. I bought cream of asparagus (probably too gassy), cream of chicken and mushroom (low fat healthy ones). I've been existing on a few ounces of protein drink and water and peppermint tea. I would like to add things, but until this gas gets under control, I will have to just save up things I want until I'm okay enough to have them. -

great job -
Sweety, it gets better. focus on yourself only. take small sips don't worry so much about the protein, walk a little bit, sip. I'm 10 days out and I still am tired, I'm still sore, but I got the drain out yesterday and am already feeling like I'm crossing some hurdle. I questioned my decision once a day since the day after surgery. Day 1 I was a rock star, I walked like 5 times, day 2 was my hardest day. For the next week or so you are going to have ups and downs, just bear with it and it will get easier.

Advancing Diet Sooner Than Reccomended
MinaT replied to mkamai's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your stomach needs to heal. Not just the outside but the inside. There are some of us that are suppose to be on liquids only for 5 weeks after surgery and it's obviously for a reason. I had a few teaspoons of broccoli cheddar Soup blended (which is on my full liquid diet) and thought I was dying of a heart attack because of the pain in my chest and under my ribs. You went through all this diet and wanting to change the rules one week out....what is going to happen 5 months out. You have to be in it to win it, and learn to take your doctor's advice, otherwise why put yourself through the surgery. -
I had the hiatal hernia repair and I felt the same thing too. room temperature decaff peppermint tea with truvia was my saving grace. I had serious gas until yesterday and I'm 10 days post-op. The nurses dubbed me the walker, because I walked constantly 5 days in the hospital, but walking still wasn't enough. A lot felt like spasms to me. Today was the first day I could drink cold water and wow it was so refreshing. I forgot how much I love cold water. I used to be a chugger and I could take down a 16 ounce bottle in no time flat. I use the med cups still to drink anything. 30ml (1 ounce) and it takes me 3 sips to get it down.

Good luck to all the sleevers today and those I missed over the past few days. My prayers are with you all. -
Congrats. I'm glad you are doing so well.

I am getting muscle spasms in my back and spasms in my stomach. My drain is also infected but thankfully they are taking it out today. I'm going to talk to the doc about the spasms. Next Monday I'll be two weeks out. I've had a fever on and off for days so hopefully i'll be making a turn into recovery soon. Having Lupus, serious adhesion removal plus a hernia repair plus having surgery complications with my esophageal tube being stapled and the hours it took trying to figure out how to cut the tube out (it was the worst possible place to happen) caused me a lot of back issues. I actually have a bruise under my armpit around my back, probably from some weird manipulation.

CRichard - WOW, good for you!! I'm happy I know it's been a rough time waiting
-
Kfitch, seriously, I have said the same thing you said. I feel like a wimp. Actually the skin around my drain is infected and the gas I keep getting is overwhelming, I cough in my sleep and strain. The pain is bad, I have gotten depressed and I honestly thought I was a very strong person. I've gone through c-sections, hysterectomy, gallbladder out, obviously my complications have set me back a bit, and I know that one day, hopefully soon I'll be feeling better. It just isn't today. My thoughts are with you.

My prayers are with you. My doc sent me home with 4 Scopolamine Patches for nausea that I change every few days. It's helping me with nausea. I hope you start feeling better soon. Please realize there are a lot of us that are having complications, I've had a fever, I pulled a muscle in my stomach, I have muscle spasms in my back and the worst gas ever. I thought I was going to be a trooper, and I feel like a party pooper. Eventually it will work out though.

I'm a little over a week out and I get full on the optisource Vitamin. I work on sipping all day and am getting 30 ounces of Protein in. I was told today I have about 5 weeks of full liquids. I'm really actually in a lot of pain and have a lot of gas. I walk 20 minutes 3 times a day and hit a 30 minute walk. My stomach creaks, and groans, food has no interest to me. Room temp Water feels better. I use a med cup that's one ounce and it takes me three sips to get it down. I can only do 2-4 cups before I feel very full.

June 2012 Sleevers Post Op Check In

My doc said n othing heavier than a gallon of milk. Not sure how much that weights. I'm so glad everyone seems to be doing so well. I thought I would be one of those, but tomorrow the drain comes out and I finally have some gas x and I'm getting water and having some issues with the shake. I think the blending of the shake in the magic bullet is putting too many gassy bubbles in my belly. I think I'm going to have to go with stirring as opposed to magic bulleting. -

Pain Lower Left Side...please Advise
MinaT replied to Knee2010's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for this post, I'm dealing with it myself right now, and I'm a week out. I also have the drain in still. I think I pulled a muscle when I sneezed last night. I have been dealing with a lot of coughing. Prior to surgery I had a case of pleurisy and the year before I had pneumonia twice. The coughing hurts areas that aren't even sore from the surgery. -
Glad to hear everything is going great! We had surgery same date, I was 299 morning of surgery, 235 on Friday when I came home from the hospital, and today I am 227. I have had less approximately 200-300 calories and those mostly from the optisource Vitamins lol. I did get in a shake today. Hopefully my body will catch up soon, especially after I get the drain out on Wednesday.
-
Congrats. The things that helped me the most were chapstick, Charmaine or Cottonell Wipes, Decaff Peppermint Tea, hair brush, Truvia, Biotene and a comfortable soft fuzzy blanket from home. I didn't use my cell, my kindle, shampoo, conditioner, I walked, sipped, slept. I made a decision after I got out of bed after surgery that i would sit in a chair instead of staying in bed, and I only went to bed at night. My big fluffy brown blanket, was a comfort. Cleaning lady came in my room and say oh look at the bear lol

June Sleever's Compilation - Good Luck & Well Wishes
MinaT replied to MinaT's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm having a better day than yesterday. I keep having coughing fits which hurt, and I had a fever of 100 yesterday. I then sneezed so hard I pulled a muscle in my stomach. Tylenol is the only thing I'm allowed to take and it makes me sick so my mother found some chewable tylenol so I finally got some help. Every day is a little better. I had my first real protein shake today it took me a while to get 4 ounces in this morning and then another 4 ounces later. Everyone heals at their own rate, I'm going to be slower because of the Lupus, but I'm not down about it. Yesterday the fever made me weepy, and today I feel a little better. I finally lost the surgery weight I gained and I'm down to 227.2 from 229, it's not much but I am obviously very swollen still. I started walking in the house in a circle through kitchen, living room, dining room 20 minutes at a time, I've done it twice so far today. The Binder really has helped today. I hope everyone is doing great, and best wishes and prayers going out to Tuesdays sleevers. Eager12 Iwant2Bthatgirl need2change Dayo Denalisa CRosa glsun0612 -
