Noodles are a slider food, much like popcorn.
-
All surgeons and doctor's office are different. I would be chewed out if I attempted noodles at all. I am not allowed them now and I was on liquid phase until Monday (5 weeks out). I am on pureed now and noodles are carbs, it's the main thing we are suppose to be avoiding. I'd speak to your surgeon. You will lose more weight with Protein and the least amount of carbs. Carbs can be introduced once you reach your goal, if your exercising is increased a lot. Maybe get your nutritionists advice on this.

Back Pain 3 Weeks Post Op/ Emotions
MinaT replied to Looking Ahead's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Know that I felt the same way you do right now. I slept with an ice pack in the middle of my back. Not all surgeries are alike and if you had a hernia or adhesions they have to put a lot more pressure on you. I didn't even have back pain before surgery when I was over 300 pounds and I was 229 when I had surgery. The back pain is alleviating now. I was 200-300 calories at 3 weeks forcing down isopure to get extra Protein in (I had a day at 3 weeks I got in 17 grams of protein). If you can't walk 20 minutes - do 10 minutes take a break do another 10 minutes - then take a break and if you can squeek in another 10 do that. It gets better, I promise you. I hope your surgeon or Nurse has some words of wisdom for you or you can find some back relief soon. -
I am 5 weeks out and I had been taking amitiza (like a prescription of colace) and then using suppositories which cause issues if used daily. My doctor is now allowing me to start back on metamucil (benefiber). I will try 1/2 dose tonight. I took it up until liquid pre-op for the past year. I definitely could use a Water in water out day for sure. Call your doctor and get their recommendation first and foremost though. It has calories and carbs and you need to make sure your sleeve is healed before taking it.
-
It's happened to me since the sleeve. I have never gagged brushing my teeth. Actually my cure all for being hungry was to brush my teeth. I brush 3 times a day normally and after I got sleeved I started gagging. I never had a problem taking medicine before either. Now I'm gagging on tiny pills. I take a sip of Water and I get my pill in and I have been stalling and the pill melting in the water. It's like I became drinking dyslexic or something. I learned if I take my medicine with 1/4 - 1/2 cup of skim milk it's not so bad. It seems heavier and helps bring the medicine down. I find the colder the water and less water I use when brushing I have less foamy and gag reflex. I have gone 49 years without these problems and hopefully this evens out soon. Good luck to you.

Super Bummed....surgery Cancelled
MinaT replied to momoftwoboys's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I hope that they get the anemia out of of the way and you decide to go through with when you are all healthy. -
I was put on pepsid morning and evening. I also took Gas-X. I have had acid reflux for several years now, and I was omaprazole, but the pill was too big. If you are having problem with your Water coming back, try drinking out of a one ounce cup or even a shot glass, it helps you from pulling in too much air. I wish I could go back on Omaprazole, but I can't handle opening it up and putting it on food to get down. Since surgery I have more of a problem with my pills. I have never had a problem taking medicines before and now I have to take all pills with skim milk. Weird, I am hoping this gets better with time, and it most likely will.

Emy, I hope it helps and good luck to your friend. JiJi, most of us have gone up and down and I have lost easily over 1000 pounds in my life time, keeping it off is hard, this is why I decided to go through with surgery. I had the 6 month pre-approval to go though and I lost 10 each month. Before Surgery I was already down 70 pounds. A nurse at the hospital and 2 different nurses aids asked why I went through with the surgery if I lost 70 on my own. One asked me while she was walking me and said we were expecting really really big people, why did you have this surgery? I don't think your fat! I was on morphine at the time, and I wanted to punch her, seriously, there's no going back now, I'm in pain and I can't undo what I just did. I said listen, I have gone 300-200 so many times in my life, I want to make sure I get below 200 and stay there, I did this because it's my time to succeed. She shut up. I bet she ends up signing up for the program in the next year. Best of luck to you. If you are sure this is what you want, I know you will do all you can before surgery to succeed.
-
I was doing 80-90 pre-surgery and now I am hitting 55-60 and I'm 5 weeks out. I'm struggling and will probably continue to struggle a little bit. I just hit purees yesterday. Unfortunately, I also have suffered from the omg these shakes suck now syndrome. It gets better and eventually they become more tolerable again. Good luck to you.

I Really Need Advice So Please Help Me :) I Feel Really Bad.
MinaT replied to Karen2012's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel you. I had surgery on June 4th and was just released to pureed food yesterday. If you are liquid phase you should also be allowed Soups, like strained cream of asparagus, and I was allowed to eat Heart Healthy Bean & Bacon Soup. If you Pureed the soup completely with a little Water, then add your can of water, it's completely liquid. It has Protein in it and you can add unflavored unjury powder to it. Syntrax nectar was mentioned I have only tried Fuzzy Navel. I made my own "high protein shake" with one cup of Tropic 50 (low sugar Orange Juice) - one packet of unjury unflavored Protein Powder - 2 teaspoons of Fat Free Cool Whip and lots of ice cubes. This was probably the best tasting thing I had. I spent 7 weeks of liquids. 2 weeks of pre-op and then 5 weeks, I know it's hard. Best of luck. I'm more surprised that yesterday I got pushed to pureed and - then this coming sunday I move to soft - then the following Sunday to regular food...as tolerated. Today I had 1.5 ounce of pureed tuna for lunch and it was kind of rough on me and it was seriously pureed. I think I may end up trying the old refried Beans and sour cream this evening like everyone has talked about. -
Food Shopping List For Pre-Op
MinaT replied to phillygirl8133's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I brought with me Bigelow Decaff Peppermint Tea and Truvia. I have issues with artificial sweeteners causing me severe headaches, and because most everything has artificial sweeteners in it - sugar-free Jello / sugar-free popsicles, this helped me out tremendously. The tea settled my stomach down and honestly went down better than the Water did at first. If you don't like peppermint find something decaff you like. (ask nurse for a styrofoam cup) otherwise they send you warm water in a coffee cup (and it smells like coffee usually). I actually brought it to the hospital with me because I hate regular decaff tea which they serve in the hospital and they usually serve a generic artificial sweetener. Having a few Isopures on hand will help you. You will not be getting in 80 grams of Protein a day (or even close at first). But it will help if you have a few bottles of it handy (Green Tea with Lemon - (buy some lemon MIO) to help with the flavor was something I used. Each bottle is 20 ounces. I would drink about 4 ounces of it a day sometimes. Orange Isopure with Orange MIO - Grape with grape. You can purchase those at GNC. They usually have them on sale (if no sale as for the bogo. They usually are $5.89 a piece and I can get them at my GNC if I ask for a discount 2 for $8.98. Make sure you have a chap stick for the hospital (I also recommend a box of Charmaine butt wipes) I also brought from home my freshly laundered and favorite throw blanket, made for sitting in the chair more comfortable. I also brought my own table fan. It made sleeping better. Good luck to you. -
Is Farina Considered Liquid? What Else To Eat?
MinaT replied to ChristyLove's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Would stay away from tomato Soup - that's too acidic, potato soup, too carby, cream of asparagus - pureed first then add your skim and cook, Healthy choice bean and bacon soup - pureed with some Water first then add your water is considered full liquids. sugar free pudding, sugar-free Jello, vegetable soup strained. I see all the time cream of wheat but it has high carbs and I was told not to do that grits or oatmeal, but that's just my doctor. Strained Broccoli Cheddar soup, Syntrax nectar (I like fuzzy navel). I just finished 5 long grueling weeks of full liquids. Good luck to you. -
It's all how you go into the surgery and your mental attitude. Are you going to start working on behavior modification now? Are you already working on getting your 64 ounces of Water in - lowering your carbs to 45-75 and upping Protein to 80 grams? Are you charting your food or are you planning on going to Mexico and getting the surgery without working on the issues that need to be worked on first? Are you able to work on getting in a Protein shake for Breakfast to start with and charting your food EVERY day? Charting your water, charting your exercise using something like myfitnesspal.com (know if you do this you will need to change the settings...their settings for 2 pounds allows 168 grams of carbs - you will gain with that many carbs, so you have to set it to 800-900 calories, 45-75 carbs and 80 protein and also add a level for sodium & potassium. Are you a happy person? You will have to realize that for the first two months your food will be extremely restricted. You will have at least one or two weeks of clears - 2 - 4 weeks of full liquids and then go to purees and then to soft food then to regular food. Regular food size will be reduced DRAMATICALLY. There will be no eating an entire hamburger and fries and shake. You will become emotional (about 9 days out, most people suffer from some emotional issues. There is suppose to be hormones that are trapped in fat and as you burn fat you tend to become more emotional. With 4 young children home, will you have someone there to help you. There is no lifting for a while. The first two weeks you will most likely want to nap. You will need help with things. Eating dinner with the family for the first month will be emotionally hard. It would be easier to feed everyone and then eat on your own until you can handle eating with others. People have posted they have cried because it was hard to watch the family eat. Remember this is your decision and your family is there to support you and they are ALSO going to be going through a change with you and it is unfair to put them through a lot of your emotional turmoil. If you go into this surgery with a positive attitude and realize that this is for life, the sleeve is only a tool and is not the end all be all and cure all, it's up to you to use the tool wisely and correctly you will be fine. If you go into this expecting this to be a hard and horrible experience and you are going to grieve food and feel like you are being punished the entire time, you will have a hard time. You don't have to sever your relationship with food, you have to learn food is there for nourishment and not comfort. A husband, a pillow, friends and a dog are there for comfort, food is nourishment, when you can work on that, you will be successful. I understand a lot of people go to Mexico, but psychological testing to me is imperative for this procedure. I cried when I found out I would need 6 months of monthly meetings with their internist and show my food log, I was furious, I wish I had the money to go to Mexico. However, I see the difference in the way I have approached this surgery compared to others, and feel that if you are going to do this, you need to have the right attitude, the right commitment and know that there are some really hard days involved in this, it's not a walk in the park, but it's something I would do over again. Go into this 100% committed and you will get what you put into it. If you try to stay positive, even when you hurt, even if you can't eat your cheetohs, or steak when the family is, you will be fine. Good luck. This is just my two cents and book on the subject.

Spicing Up Clear Broth
MinaT replied to TheNewSusie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told no tomato soup or potato soup - tomato because it's too acidic and potato because it's pretty high in carbs. (these would be full liquid) For clears I bought Isopure Green Tea with Lemon...and added Lemon MIO. The Grape with Grape Mio and the Orange with Orange Mio. (add tons of ice because it doesn't taste that great when it's warm.) I used Mrs. Grass which for one cup (without the noodles) has 700 mg of sodium - chicken Ramen without noodles (1,768 for the package) unfortunately, I cannot find one how much one cup is. 800 mg of sodium for 1/2 package of Chicken Ramen...with 1/2 the broth. When I moved to other Soups, the one soup that I liked was Cream of Asparagus, I pureed the vegetables and then mixed the skim milk. Vegetable Soup (minus the vegetables), Heart Healthy Bean & Bacon Soup - Pureed consistency then add Water and cooked. This would still be considered "full liquid" and not "pureed" because it's completely in liquid form that you could drink through a straw. I just moved pureed food and I was on full liquids 5 weeks. Though bean & bacon soup was one of my favorite of all times as well as Mrs. Grass & Cream of Asparagus, I'm so tired of them. For a treat I would get Potbelly Broccoli Cheddar and strain out the vegies (Panera is almost exactly the same). Good Luck. -
I'm so very very happy for you and innerme, you are so close and I know it's just right around the corner, and when I hit 199, it will be the lowest I have weighed since 1999. I remember when I went from 319 to 250, I was so darn proud and I gained the weight back and I kept thinking to myself, if I could only get back to 275, I'd be happy, then it was 250 and I gained the weight back up to 330. I made it from 300 to 201 and then back up again in 2006 and since then I haven't been under 250. 199 is going to taste sweeter than anything to me.

How Do Newly Skinny View Those Who Still Struggle With Their Weight?
MinaT replied to NDN_RN's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree it's an addiction, you don't have to smoke to live, you have to eat to live. I try not to be so judgmental but when the smell makes me sick, it's a little harder. Hopefully the surgeon makes her quit smoking before he will perform surgery on her. -
How Do Newly Skinny View Those Who Still Struggle With Their Weight?
MinaT replied to NDN_RN's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I saw someone recently that was extremely large and I could tell the feet and ankle swelling was so rough and I could see that walking was not easy and though she had a cane and she seemed younger than me. I felt so bad for her, because I knew the struggle she was in, but then I got a great whiff of cigarette smell on her and I didn't feel so darn bad for her. Losing weight is rough, you have to eat to survive, but when you have severe medical conditions, and you are young and then you add smoking to it, I lost a lot of my pity. I know this post may irk smokers, but some people, like me literally have issues not so much with the "smoke" coming off the cigarette as they do the particles that lay on your clothings in your hair, those particles, which are finer than dust find their way into my lungs and I end up coughing up eventually a nice big old size lougie. I have to use ventolin inhaler. My parents smoke. They open up their home and air it out with fans, and spray crap and will not smoke inside for about 5 hours before I come and being there for less than an hour, I go home sick. I've been in there car (which was cleaned the day before) they have to take me to the doctor and I went into the doctor's office and I was told "i should stop smoking"...my parents car was cleaned before I got in it, but the cigarette crap clings to everything enough that a doctor..that should have known I don't smoke accused me of smoking. Her heaviness, I felt for, the fact that she's sick and heavy and can barely walk and breath and she just put a cigarette out before coming into the building...well that I did judge. Yes, I'm an anti-cigarette snob. -
You are in a state of depression which is something everyone can understand, but it's above and beyond it because you knew that your food intake would be limited and it's as though you are mourning food in a way. The nausea isn't helping you and neither is the acid reflux. If regular shakes make you throw up - try something else like Syntrax nectar. I hate the shakes too. (though I drank one every day 7 months pre-op with no problem). They made me gag, I would never bother eating or drinking them until I barfed though. Take some sips, put it away. I don't have a lot of money because of the surgery and other things, and finding any sort of Protein shake I could handle was getting on my nerves. I had an easier time trying to get down the Syntrax Nectar (which you can buy a 2lb tub of Fuzzy Nectar, Ice Tea, Lemonade for like $33.00 (cheaper than buying at Syntrax - it's $59.00 there). I am not hitting 80 grams of protein a day, you aren't going to become protein deficit in this short of time. Worry about your Water, chew the Vitamins slowly. I find getting it down with skim milk is better. Try getting in a Vitamin b12 sublingual (goes under your tongue) maybe that will lift your spirits. If eating with your family is causing tears, then don't eat with them for now. Do you have kids? My father is embarrassed to eat in front of me, it causes my family anxiety if they see that they are eating something they KNOW I can't eat ...yet, or that used to be my favorite. They went through this surgery with me, and watching someone have this surgery is stressful not just on us, but on the family too. I had a few days where I felt depressed and sorta moody, but I put a different attitude on things. Why should I make them miserable because of a decision I made, that was still the right decision, but it's something I am not having a good time with. I'm happy because I have two choices, find something that will work for me and try to stay positive or gag stuff down, and be miserable, moody and make everyone around me miserable and moody too. It's not fair to them. Sometimes happiness is only achievable when you work at it. Do I feel happy all the time, hell no, I hate my Protein Shakes, I decided to go back every other day in the morning because they have more protein in it. If you keep looking for the worst, that is what you are going to see. Find some positives in your day, don't eat with your family. Are you still on full liquids? Are you on purees? Not sure what phase you are on. I was on full liquids 5 weeks, I just started out with purees. I tried tuna pureed. I had 1.5 ounces of it with light mayo and 3 teaspoons of cottage cheese. That went down great. Then for dinner yesterday, while my husband and son ate pork chops, vegetables and a side dish. I tried the chicken can pureed, which I didn't make liquidy enough it stuck in my throat and I felt horrible the entire night, but I went for a walk, and I realized this is a decision I cannot take back and truthfully I have to change my attitude and look at the positives. If you are having a lot of acid reflux get on a different PPI. It honestly seems like this is about mourning food and not being hungry, and perhaps you are trying to get down too much. You can't compare what your family is eating to you...it's unrealistic. Realize you will be able to eat the same things as them in limited quantity in the future, but you are only 4 weeks out of having a serious major surgery. Think about getting some counseling. The sleeve is a tool to control the size of your stomach but it doesn't fix what caused you to overeat in the first place. I still hate my shakes, I drank them 7 months prior to surgery and they taste like elmers glue with chocolate, the smell of chocolate makes me want to hurt, but it doesn't make me regret my decision. I hope you turn the corner soon and things start looking up for you. I wish you the best of luck.

When you join Myfitnesspal.com It has a default setting of the following: 1200 calories a day 165 Carbs a day 40 Fat a day 40 Protein a day There is NO way you are going to lose weight on 165 carbs. I was on a six month pre-op diet and I followed my doctor's recommended which was about 800-1000 calories a day less than 75 carbs a day and 80 protein a day . Drink 64 ounces of Water which could include non-caffeinated beverages - all must have less than 5 calories per serving (0 carbs) Eat 100-200 calories within 1 hour of waking up. (I did this by having a Protein shake for Breakfast every morning Goal 15-30 minutes ofe xercises daily - split up if it's too hard for you. Pedometer - Ultimate goal of 10,000 steps daily. Eat 3-4 cups of fruit or vegetables daily - not fried or cooked in oil or butter. Replace unhealthy snackes with fruits and vegetables Chew each bite 20 times before swallowing. Attempt a low calorie hot beverage before each meal and snack - hot tea or something like that. I love fruits, but they are not talking about fruit juice, which are high in carbs. I stayed at between 45-75 carbs a day and I lost 10 pound a month each month during the 6 month pre-op diet. When you go into myfitness pal - hit "settings" I would hit the drop down box on the left - and add sodium and potassium to your list. You will want to see how much sodium you are getting in for those days you are bloated and and you gain a pound or two to see how much sodium you are taking on. I would also hit potassium for days you are noticing that you are getting cramps in your legs or feet - meaning you may not be getting enough potassium. If you are going to be following the breakfast - snack - lunch - snack - dinner - snack routine, change that in the next drop down box. Realize all previous entries will get converted into a weird form - meaning most likely dinner will be located at lunch - but you can explain that to your doctor. Save now go back out to home - then next to home you will see GOAL - Click Goal... on the bottom click the green change goal button. Click button custom - then click the green continue button - I would first and foremost - lower those carbohydrates to under 100 grams a day. I would up protein to 80 grams a day. When you change the settings for one - it automatically changes does the % for other's so you have to play around with it some. IE - 1000 calories - 30% carbs (75 grams) 35% protein - 88 Grams 35% fat 39 grams. My main priority was my 80 grams of protein and I always went from 80 - 90 grams of protein a day. I tried to stay within 45-75 grams of carbs and I always tried to keep my fat as low as possible. I changed how many days a week I was going to exercise to 7 days - 30 minutes a day. Everyone has 30 minutes to walk - even if it's in 15 minutes intervals around your home, twice a day. When I first started I could barely get up my stairs and I didn't fit onto the gazelle and I would walk in place 5 - 10 minutes while watching tv - then I gradually got into the groove. Just because it says you can lose 2 lbs. a week with what their target is - that's for someone that doesn't have a messed up metabolism. If I ate their recommended of 1200 - 165 carbs i would be gaining 5 lbs a week or more!!! Stay within 45-75 grams of carbs - throw in a shake for breakfast, first and foremost look at your protein - get that up to 80 grams a day. When you eat dinner. Do not eat your salad first, or your grains first. Eat all your meat, then you eat your vegetables, chew slowly. Do not drink water or anything with your meals. Wait 1/2 hour after you eat to drink your water. I always had water with my meals because I was a choker. Why did I choke? Because I swallowed my food without being chewed well. I took away my water and I learned to chew well and take my time and focus on what I was doing. You should always be under your calories because of exercise. It always said I was not eating enough etc. etc. It's all good, but if doing the 3 month diet will jump start your weight loss, it's all worth it because it will make after getting sleeved that much easier. If you have any other questions, please hit me up, explain to your doctor regarding my fitness pal and fix that asap. Good luck.

I Start My 2 Week Pre-Op On Thursday The 12 ...help
MinaT replied to fletchfb's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The day before you start your pre-op shake diet do not carb overload. Do a shake for breakfast, some Protein for lunch and an extremely sensible dinner. Whatever you do...DO NOT carb overload the day before you start the shakes. This can contribute the extreme craving. The more carbs you eat the more carbs you crave and it's overload. If you are used to artificial sweeteners and they do not cause you troubles, that's a good thing. If you are the type of person who has crystal light and then a sugar-free popsicle and end up get a headache, you will have to modify your day a bit and perhaps find something else to use (like Truvia with decaff tea - Peppermint is my choice, Lemon is awesome) You can make frozen ice cubes with these to get that sweet craving if you want. Realize this...liquid in - liquid out -- NEVER trust a fart. On my 2nd or 3rd day I was in bed and I had a grumble and I thought I had to fart, and then I realized, it may be more and I shot out of bed and I got 1/2 way to the bathroom and...I ended up throwing out my pj bottoms and took another shower. I lucked out by getting out of bed quick enough. First two days I had a slight headache, day 3 & 4 was probably my crabby days. I was on 3 shakes a day for 14 days in a row. I tried to avoid sugar-free popsicles and sugar-free Jello because of the headache issues I have with sucralose & aspartame. I kept busy, I cleaned out my closets, my drawers, cabinets, you name it, I cleaned it. I exercised a lot more. Write a list of the reasons why you are doing this and keep it handy. Don't put yourself in situations that will cause you anxiety and make you feel bad. Going out to dinner with friends..not the best ideal. Use this time to get yourself mentally into the game, find ways to build up your self esteem during this time. Tell yourself how proud you are of being able to complete each day, tell yourself you can do it, and try to stop the self-doubt. It doesn't do you any good. My father was terrified of me having this surgery as was my husband and son. For them I put on a brave face, I didn't moan, complain, or act like I was scared. I acted positive (I'm not the most positive person in the world...I'm more like a female "glum"). Perception is 1/2 the battle if you act positive and act happy, chances are better to be happy. I went into the surgery with a smile on my face. Keep telling yourself you are worth it and you CAN do it and just do it. When you see people posting about cheating during their diet, or others posting they are allowed to eat xyz during their pre-op diet, ignore it because you are not them and you are worth putting 100% effort into it. Oh yeah, not sure how long you are suppose to be in the hospital - we were told 4 days, I was in 5 days, I brought with me chap stick, my own Bigelow Peppermint Decaff Tea, Truvia (they serve regular decaff tea & generic artificial sweetener - usually) they serve you warm Water in a coffee cup....it smells like coffee and is icky at most hospitals. Ask your nurse for a Styrofoam cup of hot water and bring the tea you like and the sweetener you like. If brought a throw blanket that was washed and smelled like home, it was comfortable and I used it when sitting in the chair. I also brought a fan small fan (to make the room cooler and to drown out noise), I brought my crocs with so I could walk and I hate going in socks in public places. and I brought Charmaine wipes because well...I wanted them and they did make me feel better. I didn't use my kindle or read or do anything else. That's my best advice to you right now. -
Wish I Could Turn Back The Hands Of Time :-(
MinaT replied to Ready2Bthin's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Her surgery was June 2, 2012, just two days before mine. Casey, I'm so sorry you are having so many issues. Are you only on liquids at the moment? Did this happen just on liquids or did you advance your diet up to purees, soft or regular food first? I'm 5 weeks out tomorrow, and I am still on full liquids. I am sure it has to be so hard to deal with right now and I couldn't imagine throwing up every day. What kind of doctor are you seeing since your surgeon is in Mexico. Are you seeing a gastroenterologist? They did another leak test? Is it lactose intolerance? I bet it's a scary feeling for you and your child. I pray that things get better for you soon and please keep us updated. I will keep you in my thougths and prayers that things get better for you soon. -
My First Emotional Breakdown
MinaT replied to giraffequeen's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Oh starting about 9 days out I got the tears. I think it's part of healing, anesthesia or whatever. Someone else said as you start burning fat it releases hormones. I love popcorn. It's probably the only high carb food that I really truly love. I'm a meat lover all the way, but popcorn is my Achilles. I've served my favorite steak, jalapeno cheddarworst, hot spicy italian sausage with green peppers and onions, turkey burgers, my favorite chicken and right now we are avoiding, shrimp (because I love it and still on Full liquids and I'm at 5 weeks out from surgery. I am not fond of spaghetti, so I thought sure, I'll fix spaghetti, I think it's the first time I thought, wow I would like spaghetti. It's a mind trip though for sure, I drink 1/2 cup of milk and I'm so full it goes away. Best of luck to you all. Best of luck you are just out don't be too hard on yourself, but right now, I'm avoiding things that make me and the family uncomfortable and I'm getting better every day.a For the first few days home I didn't eat dinner until they were done and the dishes were away. Now I can cook for them and be okay. -
My First Emotional Breakdown
MinaT replied to giraffequeen's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Until I have a handle on my emotions and especially so soon from surgery, I avoid things that are going to cause me anxiety or emotional outbursts which will cause my family any sort of emotional turmoil too. I am not the only one going through this process. Both my husband and son have had to suffer along with me. If I get upset, they get upset. Even my own father feels uncomfortable eating in front of me and causes him anxiety. I avoid putting myself into situations where it will cause me to get upset, so I don't upset them. It's not their fault that I decided to have the surgery and they should not have to pay the price for it. I'm a popcornahaulic, I always have been. I haven't gone to the movies yet. I will when I know I can handle it. It's not that I'm avoiding life, I'm avoiding putting myself in position that could cause me to become emotional, therefore sparing my family my emotional angst. It's not easy, but I have started serving my family foods that I used to enjoy and that I can't have. One more day until I start pureed food. It's been a long 5 weeks plus 2 weeks of liquid pre-op shake. 7 of liquid....but it's worth it. -
3 days out and starving sounds like acid, gas and not getting enough Water in to me. I'm 5 weeks out and still on liquid diet. Tomorrow.....I hopefully get moved to purees. Drink more water, try something like decaff tea with your fav. artificial sweetener, I use Truvia. If you ate, you would hurt yourself so darn bad. The pain you feel in your stomach cannot be "hunger" pains, that's healing pains, gas pains, acid reflux, or just your stomach adjusting and for sure healing. Right now you are going through something more psychological. Try drinking more water or try a decaff tea (my fav. is peppermint) it sooths. Get some Gas-X chewables or some pepsid. Good luck.

Need Advice On Prednisone Burst After Surgery.
MinaT replied to mzcoug01's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Prednisone doesn't make you gain weight, it makes you more apt to eat and most people over eat. I never gained with steroids, it gave me a burst of awesome energy. Use the energy. I always over did it because of the energy and then after I went off the steroids, I would gain weight because I would be back to being a couch potato. I've been on steroids on and off all my life, 5 days isn't going to affect you much. I honestly and truly always feel better while on steroids than when I'm off.
