I am 3 weeks and 2 days post band and still feel tugging sometimes around my incisions. Near my belly button and my port area seem to be the worse after I have finished my walk. Just wondering if anyone else has this going on. Nothing too painful just uncomfortable at time. It seems to ease once I have rested.

Have Your Taste Buds Changed?
Sal58 replied to SashaWLS's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with you. I am also 3 weeks post op and some of my favorite things don't taste good anymore. I was craving a (COSCO) choc cookie so I nibble on a small piece...didn't taste good. I love chips (french fries in the US). I tried a couple and they no longer appeal to me either. Funny thing I can tolerate milk better now when before it would sour in my mouth. Today has been a hard day....feeling depressed so hitting the fridge when not hungry...my brother in law is dying of prostate cancer and only has a few days left and the stress of it has pulled me back into my unhappy eating habit. The only difference is I don't eat everything in sight anymore. I am able to eat though more now that I am healing. Tomorrow I start fresh and will not give in to this sadness. -
I had my first appointment since being banded on 4/15/2012. It went so well and I couldn't be happier. Everything is healing properly and the bonus is I have lost 18 pounds. It makes this all worth while. So happy result and it is almost the end of week 3.

I found the more I moved the better I felt. Heat pads on my left shoulder helped me as well. By the end of the first week you will be so much better. Just listen to your body. Rest when you need too. Each day gets better. If you have any concerns...call your doctor.

Banded 4/16 And Gained A Few Back
Sal58 replied to m.boyer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this. I was so upset yesterday when I weighed myself....gain 2 pounds over night on 800 cal? I was devastated. I will try and up my intake a little but finding it hard still to eat more than a few spoons. Everything else is going well, walking 45 min a day now everything is healing great. I will not weight myself but once a week so I dont get so upset. The things that went through my mind. Thanks again for saying something. -
I did this so I can like me. I want to walk downtown, see my reflection in a shop window and wonder what the hell is that. I want to not avoid every mirrow in every store because when I do see myself I get so upset I have to fight tears and head to the car and just go home some days. I can't believe what I have done to myself over the years to get to this point. I feel proud of the fact that I was banded two weeks ago, I feel proud that I am now starting to lose weight. My weight and how I look are the only things that is a stumbling block in my life and now that I have followed through and got my band, I see a healthier, happier me.

I am 14 days out and still burp when I eat or drink. I am trying to be really careful and not eat quickly and drink little amounts at a time but still burp like a pro. Glad to hear it will eventually go away.
-
I got weepy as well around day 4. I couldn't understand what was wrong with me. I would cry for no reason. I got fed up with myself...LOL! It got better by day 8. I am now at day 12 and pretty stable again.

How Soon Can I Go To The Gym?
Sal58 replied to scalico's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on 12 day post op and only walking still. I have been walking since the day of surgery, well the first few days were more shuffling but now I am up to two 30 minutes walks a day. I see my doc on Friday and my first fill appt. is June 1st. I am going to check with my doctor to see what he has to say. I have a bowflex machine in the garage that I am itching to get working out on. -
I was told two weeks of liquids which can include thin protein shakes, thin soups and yogart thinned down with milk. If it will fit through a straw easily then it is okay, just don't drink from a straw as you gulp air with it.

So glad to hear everything went well. Things will only continue to get better. Keep us all posted.

Feeling Full Vs Stopping Eating Vs Satisfied... When Are You Done?
Sal58 replied to Trinity's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am still trying to download my TickerFactory I created but still not working. When I go into my signature portion of my profile and copy the string it still just shows up as the string and not my ticker. Sometimes it won't let me copy directly into the signature area and I have to use that BBC code box. Just not sure which one to select when that comes up. Is this too confusing? -
So glad you are doing well. Make sure you take it easy and listen to your body during your healing time. Slow and steady. Keep us posted on your progress. Shirley

You are in my prayers. Can't wait to hear from you.

Hello Slimjem and best of luck on the 5th. Please make sure to let us know when you get home and how you are doing. This is exciting to share. I am now on day 10 post op and feel great for the most part. Took off the compression socks and bandages. It creeps me out a bit to see where they made the incisions but it all looks well healed.....LOL! Now for a shower tonight to help loosen up the steri strips...no more cling film cover up. Awww the joys in baby steps.

Like you I tried the pills and lost tons of weight but of course after the scare with heart valve damage I stopped and the weight creeped on again. I had an EKG and ultra sound and was given the all clear and that was when I decided I wouldn't never take another diet pill again. I have always been active but I have always loved my food as well. I love to cook, create and that involves a lot of tasting before actually eating so weight just creeped on. I would love my 50's to be healthy. I want to be able to do so much and like myself again. I like everthing about me but how I look and the embarrassment of not being able to sit down anywhere I like is too much for me now. I want to travel with my husband and hike the hills and fly fish in remote lakes and do all of this without my body reminding me I am packing around 70 extra pounds. This band is my mentor and guide and I will take advantage of it, get fit with it and allow it to do its job to remind me that I have goals, I am worth this and I have a fun filled future ahead of me with it.

It will be nice to keep in touch. We should chat one day. Going to bed now. I will private message my details so we can chat on Facebook.

My ideal weight is 11 stone. Any lower and I don't look well. Does all your family members know what you have done. I only have a select few...not even my inlaws or my mother who lives in the house with me. My mother thinks I had female surgery. I am hoping by the time my inlaws get back from their holiday next week most of the swelling will be gone from my tummy. I know it sounds bad but just not ready for the critical comments. Only my hubby, cousin and 2 friends in the states know.

Same here Deanne, I don't care what size I wear as long as I feel good about me. If I ever got into a 14 that would be a miracle. Even at my ideal weight a 14 would be crazy. I am a big boned gal. Right now I still have my ups and downs but most up. Just want to get past this healing stage and on with things. I am not a good patient and have a hard time slowing down. I guess that is why I walk all the time. But I find I still have to take a rest through the day and that is hard since I am my mothers care giver. I have such a great husband that helps.
-
Deanne I know what you mean about reading others weight loss but I don't worry too much about that. We are all individuals and each pound down is in the right direction. I will be happy with 1-2 per week. I didn't get this way over night even though some days it seemed liked it...LOL! I would like to be at my goal weight by this time next year.
-
Also, I can't seem to post my weight ticker on this site. I have one created but not sure how to add it to my profile...any help?
-
I still have this week on liquids and then next week, puree. I had some parsnips and carrots getting old so I boiled them up today with an onion and swede. I now have a freezer bags full of veggies waiting for the blender for next week. I love my veggies thank goodness but sure miss chips. Since hubby and my mother are regular eaters I am finding cooking their meals sometimes difficult even though I don't really want to eat them. I know that doesn't make much sense but it just smells good.

My surgery was done in Birmingham on April 15th.
-
My first fill will be June 1st. I hope I don't gain weight between now and then but like I said earlier...I am really not hungry now. I do have a follow up appt. in Cardiff on May 4th so no telling how things will feel by then. I might feel the need for a fill in May instead. Nice to meet you both though.

I used Syrup of Fig and it did the trick for me. I still get gas buildup in my left shoulder but I am now walking just over a mile each day. I am on day 9 post op. I am still not hungry and find it hard to eat or drink without being uncomfortable. I have loss 12 pounds so far though so that gives me the incentive to get through the rough patches during the day.
