How Did You Tell Your Gamily And Friends?
lovex5 replied to Jimbo_D's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thus far i have told my husband, sister (only one sister bc she is thinking of wls and we are super close), mom dad and ex mil (we have a great relationship). Telling hubs was a no brainer for me and i wanted to tell my parents in case something happened to me. My dad didnt say much but rarely does. My mom, who is obese, wouldnt choose surgery for herself but has been cautiously supportive of me. My sister was happy for me and my ex mil was ecstatic for me. I dont plan to tell anyone else yet. I want to share my weightloss updates on facebook and i think once the comments & questions begin rolling in people will put 2+2 together..or maybe i'll tell then..who knows. I just dont want to tell everyone yet because once told it cannot be untold. I dont want people watching and waiting for me to fail or expecting me to shrink in a matter of 3mo. I've heard from people i know that had wls that sometimes that happens along with horror stories of people failing, gaining it back and/or dying. I sugged take a deep breath and tell the people you choose to tell. Let them know that you and your team of doctors feel this is best for you. Let them know you will need their support and encouragment. Remember why you plan to do this and dont let anyone sway you. Good luck! -
As medical professionals when would you say most leaks take place? I was under the impression the risk was high for a month or so, but i have since read otherwise. Is it the norm for a leak to happen late?

Reading this makes me happy! How sweet you are--congratulations on your success! Thank you for sharing.

Which October Sleevers Are On Facebook?
lovex5 replied to mooneybeams's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is anyone interested in making a private fb group for october sleevers? One where all comments are private unless you belong to the group.. I belong to a local support group like that on fb but we are so varied in our stages of surgery and different types of surgeries as well. -
I had to overcome my fear of needles when i took medical assistant classes. I was so scared to give other people and myself shots. But i can tell you it's really not too bad. I also had the injections after a surgery a couple yrs ago. The worst was when the nurse would do the shot too soon after wiping the area and it stung soo bad. But just take a deep breath and do it, it'll be ok!

One Week From Today
lovex5 replied to Look@meitsEmily's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ive been realy scared too. I think the pre op diet makes you crazy and that's when some people really start to question everything. Im concerned because my husband got orders to a new post which doesnt offer bariatrics. Ins only covers vsg at a military treatment facility and im so scared after we move something will happen and we'll have to self pay. I thought the risk of complications was only a few months, not several. Also the general surg dept wont accept me there they said have to stick with original surgeon. they expect me to drive 26hr round trip every couple mo to see my surgeon. i dunno.. We move in 4.5mo and now i'm just not sure what to do. Hope we can both figure this out! -
Are you from that area? I'm originally from waco

And i am very nervous! My stomach is already growling and i've only been awake for an hour. Time to go drink something i suppose. I hope all October peeps are doing great!

Thank you. Yeah it's a week long pre op diet. I can have shakes, milk, broth, v8, decaf coffee/tea, sf popsicles and jello. Having a hard time getting the protein in. Supposed to be 70-90g..first and second day i had 69g and yesterday i made it to 70g. Today i've only had 12g and just want to sleep.

Feeling Tired On Líquid Diet...
lovex5 replied to Alexandra39's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on day 3 and definitely tired. For me it's the same..only hear my stomach growl maybe twice per day but the fatigue won't let up. I've also noticed I'm super cold. Wonder if that is normal or not. Hang in there, we'll get through this! -
I sure did indulge..for about 3 weeks i didnt pay much attention to what i ate. Not cool. The last couple days before i started my liquid diet last thursday were especially offensive hahaa! My husband had ordered me david venable's (from qvc) cookbook and it showed up early last week. I wanted to make something from it so tuesday i decided on garlic mashed potato topped onion meatloaf with gravy and mac & cheese topped with crisp bacon. Then one of our daughter's bday was wed so i had mcd's at lunch, my last meal was pizza from our fave place plus a "mummy twinkie" for dessert. Thats what she chose instead of cake. Whew way too much food crammed into one day.

Congrats to all of you post op ladies! I want to ask, were any of you scared up until the very moment of being taken to the OR? I can't shake this fear and still have 5 days until surgery.

Is Anyone Afraid Of Losing Too Much Weight?
lovex5 replied to beba238's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I am concered about both--not losing enough/losing too much. When i was in my early 20's i got down to 128lb and at 5'3" that should be an ok weight. However, i looked ridiculously thin and emaciated. Looking back at photos i looked gross. My goal is about 130-135lb and i really hope i will look healthy and not ill. -
Do You Still Look Forward To Food Or Enjoy It?
lovex5 replied to Bryan Whitson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dont beat yourself up, i am pre op and have the same concerns. I love to cook (and obviously to eat). Unfortunately i was raised to equate food with love and i believe i'm treating my kids the same way. I love finding new things to make for my family and it often occupies my mind nearly all day. Fortunately none of my children have weight issues and hopefully they wont. While i am nervous i'm definitely looking forward to food not ruling my life. What has been helping me is to look at some post op wls recipes online. I'm still daydreaming of food right now because i havent had any since wednesday, but i know i have already found some things i would love to try when i can. I plan to try a 90/10 with my diet which leaves room for a non perfect item here and there. That could change but for now that's what i'm hoping for. I think it's perfectly normal to have these concerns..hang in there! -
So glad to read this! I'm on pre op diet now and the whole grain english muffins in the fridge are taunting me. I was thinking I probably wouldn't be able to have them again. I can't wait until I get to the point where I can have one.

I did see one but don't remember the thread. I had searched complications or leaks in the forums. Someone had a list of all complications and i recall seeing a death.

Does Anyone Have Heart Failure Or Other Issue Having This Surgery?
lovex5 replied to ReduceReuseRecycle-Me!'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't have heart disease but it runs in my family on both sides. Very scary. I do have kidney disease + only 1 kidney which is my main reason for having this done. If I wind up needing a new kidney in the future I won't get it being obese. I want to do this now, while I'm somewhat young and healthy enough to lose the weight. Good luck to everyone! -
I was wondering if anyone has experienced feelings of guilt before/after surgery? I had my appt with the surgeon and nutrition today and submitted all my paperwork to admissions. Everything is real to me now that I am really having surgery. I was out shopping for my liquid diet items. I noticed so many obese people, like I am right now, and had feelings of sadness and some guilt. When I've lost weight in the past it also made me sad to see overweight people because we've all experienced the pain that comes with obesity and we know how it feels. I feel so blessed for being given the opportunity to have this surgery. Even though it's not for everyone I wish everyone else could have this chance too. Is this guilt a normal part of the process?
-
Congrats on your surgery! And good luck to you jillb!
-
Oh no, I really didn't mean any harm. I genuinely feel sad for them. I don't want this to turn ugly I just wondered if this is normal and/or something others perhaps went through. I know someone in an online group I belong to mentioned wanting to tell an obese woman about surgery and people jumped all over her. I don't think I would ever approach a stranger about surgery--ever. But that topic did go sour very quickly. I apologize if I offended anyone but what I feel is sadness for sure. Like guilt over the fact I can get surgery and other people can't. I appreciate everyone commenting =)

I met with my surgeon today and found out the same! He said the endoscope works out to about a 40f bougie but I read online it's more like a 32. Interesting..

On The Eve Of Pre-Op Diet...
lovex5 replied to shortmimi's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Aww that's a bummer. I have my surgery on the 25th and start my liquid diet Thursday. If it makes you feel any better I went way over board this weekend and gained 3lbs between Friday & Saturday. Not cool at all. Hope you feel better tomorrow and best of luck with the pre op diet!!
