How are you guys overcoming fear? Everyone i know having surgery coming up is so excited and i'm making myself sick with anxiety. I have been researching wls for over 3yr off and on. I finally got up the nerve to pursue lapband in dec but really wanted sleeve. Long story short i'm having surgery on the 25. I feel blessed with this opportunity and know i need this but i am terrified! I have had 3 other surgeries before and one of them was very dangerous and i was pregnant at the time. I recall being anxious but this seems worse than this. Is anyone else this scared? Any tips?

My surgery is in 2 weeks and we have to move later next year. The surgeon at the seminar commented that a general surgeon can follow a bariatric patient, if they want. Everyone knows moves happen in the military so I figured I can't be the only bariatric patient to go through this. There isnt a bariatric clinic where we are going but they have general surgery. I called the post hospital and asked for general surgery. I told the lady the situation and asked if they would see me. She said probably not but she would ask the head nurse. She came back on the line and told me that I need to follow up with my original surgeon. So I'm expected to drive 1400mi round trip every so often for follow ups? This doesn't sound right to me. Have any of yall been through something similar? I have heard it's hard to get a new bariatric surgeon if someone else does your surgery but I figured the military would be a little more accomodating since they know how frequently people move.

I'm from TX too, but not quite as excited as yall. I'm terrified actually but I know I want and need these and it's just anxiety getting to me.

Thanks. I'm asking because I have kidney disease. The stage I'm at now allows me about 70 grams per day at this weight but it goes down according to weight and what stage I'm in. Once I hit goal, around 120lbs, I will bump down quite a bit. The calculator I used has me at around 35-45 grams per day, depending on disease progression. CDC website says 46 grams for women in my age group. I'm a little concerned how that potential 35 grams per day will affect me but all of my specialists are on board with me having the surgery so apparently it won't be an issue. Thanks again for the input guys!

I have a couple of questions for those at goal. Did you follow a high protein/low carb diet during weight loss? If so, do you eat the same amount of protein now or have you lowered the amount?

I am so tired of being tired all the time. I am fairly sure it's due to my weight and it just stinks. Looking forward to not being a big slug that wants to sleep all day long. I hear a lot of post ops raving about the energy they have and am curious when that happens for most. Is it just when you hit a certain weight? It would be nice to have that in mind to keep chugging along!

What Is The Psych Eval Like?
lovex5 replied to DreamsOfSkinny's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was two part in the same day. I talked to the psych dr for about 20min and just told her about myself, family relationships, milestones, home life, why i wanted surgery. After that i was in a room by myself to take the written "test" which i believe was called mpi. It's a personality test and if you google there is a full version online to get an idea what it's like. -
Octosleevers - What Is Your Pre-Op Diet?
lovex5 replied to OneManWolfpack's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The hospital I started out at was modified liquid diet for 2 weeks. Mostly liquids with up to one cup daily (but they stressed only if needed) of certain vegetables. The list included things like lettuce and a few other greens. The hospital where I'm going to have surgery is only 1 week and it's straight liquid yikes. One girl from the same hospital support group was told she could have pureed soups (provided they had certain amt of carb/protein) though and I'm hoping I will get the green light for that too. I am really nervous about the diet. I originally started out wanting lapband when I began this process in March and I attempted the pre op diet and lasted a whole day. I'm sure it will be different knowing I'm actually having the surgery...or at least I hope it will. -
October 25 here too!

Why Don't I Just Tell People I Had Sleeve Surgery

I would have flipped if a coworker or especially a supervisor approached me about my weight. That is absolutely none of his concern! -
Anyone Else Willing To Share Their Reasons For Having Surgery?
lovex5 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was told by someone to begin a list of reasons I want surgery. Some are obvious like health reasons. Others are probably silly but they matter to me. I'd like to share my list (or at least what I have added so far) and would love to hear from other people too! *weigh less than my husband *not get winded going upstairs in our house *shop at any store (and cut up my lane bryant credit card!) *see my collarbone *be under 200lbs for the first time in nearly 7 years *bend over without pain or losing my breath--tying shoes, painting toenails etc *cross legs comfortably *for my husband to be able to pick me up (he's in the military and we've never been able to do the dreamy homecoming where i run into his arms and he swings me around) =) Would anyone else like to share their list? -
Can't believe it's already October 1! This is our month to shine! Wishing everyone calm nerves and the best of luck during this month. Here we go everybody

Make sure your dr's office received authorization and you should be fine. Every ins is different but the one i worked for (bcbs of tx) did not file claims until after services were rendered. Good luck! --sorry i meant to say most dr's offices dont file claims until services are rendered.

Me too. I am so ashamed. When i had a consult with a surgeon back in july i was 233. I am now 248. I am easing back into zumba and making an effort to correct bad eating habits.

Eas Advantage Carb Control Protein Drinks
lovex5 replied to gettinMeBack's topic in Food and Nutrition
I buy them at walmart. They are really going to save me during the liquid diet. Inexpensive and tasty. The only thing I don't like is they don't seem to keep me full very long. -
Oh my gosh we have this a lot and it's delicious! One thing that everyone in my family will eat.

It's sad we all have these hurdles to overcome but it's nice to know other people feel the same. Sometimes it feels like no one can relate. Not too many thin people have to map out a mental path to the restroom in a crowded restaurant ya know? -

Thanks! I am very excited. I am lucky to only have one health problem but it's a big one. Hoping this surgery will help. -
Scared......i Don't Want To Leave My Kids Without A Mom!
lovex5 replied to Amberl77's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Completely know what you're going through. I started this process so long ago and hit so many walls that i felt like though i was pursuing it, it wouldnt ever happen. Well i got my surgery date last week and now i am very nervous and anxious. -
Glad to read this. I bought my kids some 90 calorie snack size bags of kettle corn. I had a bag yesterday and wondered if it would be off limits forever after surgery.

What Were You Eating A 4 Weeks Post Op?
lovex5 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will be exactly 4wk post op at Thanksgiving. I am not telling anyone except my husband and parents that I'm having surgery. My dad's family holds a huge Thanksgiving get together. Should I plan not to attend the holiday get together this year or will I be able to get away with eating a very small amount of something? My hospital guide isnt really too thorough as far as diet progression it just says 1/4-1/2 cup portions and gives a few examples. I would love to hear from some post op people.
