I am 4 days post op and I'm on Clear liquids until next week. My doctors diet says I can start Protein supplements next week. So my question is, am I supposed to be trying to get any nutrition at all from the clear liquids? I'm happy sipping Water all day, I'm not feeling hungry at all, and I'm getting my liquids in. I'm just wondering though if I'm doing what I should be doing.

Ooh I have some PB2! Haven't tried it yet, but I will soon. Thx for the suggestion!

Just made our campsite reservations for Niagara Falls & Brooklyn lol. Gonna be a fun trip Going to for sure do the Maid of the Mist, Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, all the free stuff of course (Central Park, Times Square, Grand Central Terminal, etc) and maybe even catch a Yankee's game. We'll see

Note to self: do NOT pick up vacuum cleaner & try to vacuum something off the wall. Bad things will happen lol!

The surgery itself was so easy, hardly any pain.... I'm a worry wart though and have been struggling with all the what could go wrongs lol since I came home. Most of it was just worrying (I went from worrying about pneumonia to pulmonary embolism to heart failure lol) however.....lol. I went to see my NP yesterday and I'm having a low heart beat (defined as less than 60, mine was 52). We suspect that I got dehydrated while I was traveling after surgery and I didn't realize it. She did an EKG and it was fine, but I'm going back Thursday to see the internal medicine doc. I super hydrated yesterday (almost 100 oz) and this morning my pulse is up to 60! And I'm starting full liquids today so that means I'm starting Protein, so I should start feeling better I hope When I got home after surgery (day 4) I had gained 11 lb over surgery day. This morning I am only up 2 lb, so that's good. However (I know I'm not supposed to compare!) I see my sleeve sisters & brothers having lost 5-10+ lb already and I'm just wondering why I'm still retaining Water and they apparently aren't. Oh well, hopefully I'm almost over this little hump

I had surgery at Mi Doctor Hospital and yes in Tijuana. I liked everyone there. Two nurses stood out - Isabanna and Karen (if I understood them correctly). Yes there is a language barrier, but I had a lot of fun using my minimal Spanish skills lol. I was always able to get my point across. And if not, there's always Google Translate! They actually told me when I left - make sure you get your liquids in, we don't want to see you back here in a couple days for an IV. I guess I just wasn't paying enough attention, and I was kind of afraid of drinking too much at a time.... Now I'm counting every drop lol. I highly recommend them, I had a great experience there. Samuel the driver is super nice and although Meli & Rosie (coordinators) are very nice & speak excellent English, we found that we had to ask two or three times before getting something resolved (such as staying in San Diego our last night instead of Tijuana). Wasn't a big deal, I just prefer things to be done well in advance!

Dr. Garcia In Tijuana
Melissa D replied to jeffmanion's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Wow really Jeff? I'm still up by 8 lb!! -
I has surgery on Tuesday and felt great as of Saturday morning. Then flew home Saturday & was noticing some heaviness in my chest, minor difficulties breathing. I've been attributing it to surgical gas because it seemed to come and go (I assumed with the movements of the gas). Well now I've got myself all worried. I've been up since 230 this morning just worrying. Is this normal? I've read that anesthesia can cause a heaviness or tightness in your chest? Or gas? If my insurance would cover it, I would just go to urgent care or the ER to get it checked out. but they won't. I can go see my nurse practitioner at school for free Monday morning, so I think I'm going to try to wait it out till then. Any advice for me? Anyone else experience this?

5 Days Po, Chest Heaviness?
Melissa D replied to Melissa D's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just took 2 puffs on my old inhaler for asthma & I'm breathing so much better. I had a bout with asthma (or maybe anxiety, not sure) for a couple of years a while back. Haven't used an inhaler in months or even years. -
May 15Th...anyone Else?
Melissa D replied to beautifulnewme2012's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgery went fine, was feeling great Saturday morning before all day air travel, blah. Got home & have been having a heavy feeling in my chest. Hoping it's just anesthesia or surgical gas, but I just don't know. I've been up since 230 this morning worrying about it! -

I'm 4 days post op & I'm up over 10 lb, back to my pre-surgery diet weight. Guess its just lots of hospital fluids, hopefully will go down soon! -
So it's normal to be retaining Fluid after surgery? I'm 4 days post op, took a plane home today and my lower legs are swollen. When will that go down? I remember after having babies, I had to sweat it out & it seemed to take forever!

Did You Or Are You Keeping Your Sleeve A Secret?
Melissa D replied to letsdothis!!!'s topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Personally, If I had this done 5-10 years ago, I would have tried hard to keep it a secret except from my husband and parents and my BFF. However, I am much more comfortable with myself now, I'm not ashamed and I don't care what others have to say. If they don't like it, too bad. I announced it on Facebook the day I booked my surgery. My in-laws are a little annoying, but only because they care and they are concerned. But they were more concerned with Mexico than the surgery part. My reasoning is, it's not so much that I might inspire someone else who needs it, but maybe I'll make the skinny's out there who don't understand & see me lose weight and think its easy, so why can't "X" do it? KWIM? It seems like most people without weight problems just don't understand why we can't just lose the weight easily. Less in + more out = weigh less. But that's just a small piece of the puzzle. -
I had surgery the day after you and other than minor soreness, all that's bothering me is UGH gas. I've been walking a lot but it just won't seem to budge much. Do you still have surgery gas lol? Feeling like the marshmallow man here. I did a report last semester in Nutrition & Health on Protein and that is perhaps what is making me wonder. I just remember how important it was to get your protein in every day because your body will start canabolizing it's muscles to get it. I just had some chicken broth for dinner, I should have added in some Syntrax nectar. I'll do that tomorrow I think.

Thanks for all the advice guys!!!

Hmm... I was told not to start proteins until next week. I already have a tub of clear unflavored protein though & kinda feel like I should be having some sort of protein now.

Mushy Food Ideas
Melissa D replied to DawnDuke1983's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think it's so much the act of frying as the high calorie oils that normally accompany it. Scrambled with some Pam I would think would be fine! -

Another Question For Dr Garcia Patients
Melissa D replied to sid_n_reagans_mommy's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Yeah I took one of the pain meds last night & they were disgusting (sublingual) so I haven't taken any more. No need, I feel great other than a little persistent gassiness lol -

Plusgel (antacid liquid) Mavidol SL Ketorolaco 30 mg (sublingual pain meds) Facelit Cefalexina 500 mg (antibiotic) It looks like you continue taking the meds for about 5 days after discharge. I was just discharged yesterday
