I was nauseous and on Zofran for a month following my surgery. My surgeon said I had a lot of inflammation and was a slow healer. It didn't matter what I ate, everything made me nauseous. It eventually went away, but I was really regretting my decision to have the surgery. It's been three years now and I have had periods of being unable to eat, it lasts about a week, and then I go back to normal. Endoscopy shows stomach inflammation. It has only happened twice. My Dr says it is just my body's reaction to a foreign object. You should talk to your surgeon though, because everyone is different.

I was on a liquid diet for a week prior to my surgery

I have had this happen. I wasn't even able to swallow water. It came on very suddenly. I did have a gi work up and it was inflammation of the lining of my stomach, which my surgeon told me can happen from time to time. There was nothing to do for it and it resolved on it's own after about a week. It happened when I was about 19 mos after surgery. I am now 3+ yrs and I have not experienced it since.

This happens to me every day. I hate the first meal of the day because I know it's going to hurt. I can also feel it sitting on top of the band and painfully pass through. I always drink something cold about an hour before I eat to try to decrease any swelling, and help open my band. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't, and sometimes even the liquid won't go down easy. I have had issues with swelling since day one. Dr says there's nothing he can do because it is just the way my body reacts to the foreign object put into it.

3 yrs and I still can't get rid of the last 20 lbs
debbie221 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been banded for 3 yrs and have lost 60 lbs. I have very good restriction and don't eat much, I exercise as often as possible, but I just can't seem to lose the last 20 lbs. I have not lost any weight in about 9 months. Has anyone else hit a plateau for this long? And what helped? -
I have also lost a full shoe size. Only my sneakers still fit because I can tie them tight.

Embarrassed Of My Lap Band - Ridiculous, I Know...
debbie221 replied to goldielocks<3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't told many people either. Only my husband knew before the surgery, I didn't even tell my kids, who all still lived at home at the time. One cousin found out because she worked at the hospital where I had my surgery, she is an RN and is ,by law, not able to tell anyone. Over the past 2 yrs, I have gradually told more people. My immediate family knows as we eat dinner together often and my mother was very worried as to why I ate so little and vomited so much. Nobody judged, but all said I didn't need to have had the surgery, which is why I didn't want anyone to know beforehand , I didn't want anyone to talk me out of it. There are plenty of people who think weight loss surgery is the easy way out, I was one of them before I had it, but now I know it is far from easy. I tell people who ask that I eat less and exercise more, which is not a lie. But as far as the lap band, I don't feel that's anybody's business but mine. I wouldn't say I'm embarrassed, I just feel my medical history is for me and my doctor only. -
Does Anyone Feel A Flutter Feeling Under There Left Rib.

I get this a lot. My surgeon said it doesn't have anything to do with my band, not sure if I believe that because you aren't the first person I have read complaining about this. I had Mono as a teenager and he told me it was probably residual spleen pain from that (35 yrs ago) I never had this pain until I was banded 2 yrs ago. So I really think it has to do with the band, but no explanation or reason for it. Sorry I couldn't help with a reason, but at least you know you're not alone! -
I didn't have my first fill until 6 wks post op, and it took 3 fills before I felt any restriction. My surgeon went very slow with me. Be patient, you'll get there!

It depends if you have type1 or type2 diabetes. If you have type2 , it will definitely decrease the amount of insulin you need. If you are type1, unfortunately, you will always be on insulin.

I was in for 2 days. It takes me a long time to recovery from anesthesia. I slept most of my first post op day, and didn't do enough coughing and deep breathing. My Dr was concerned about pneumonia so I had to stay an extra night for antibiotics.i also had to do a swallowing study in front of the X-ray before I left. I was able to eat clear liquids fine, and didn't have much pain at all, I just had a really hard time trying to stay awake.

I was addicted to diet coke before I was banded also. I used to drink a 12 pack a day, plus 1-2 32oz fountain ones from Wawa. The week before surgery,I was only allowed to drink water and shakes from the dr's office, and after surgery I was too swollen and nauseous to stomach much. So I tried a diet coke again , having none for about 3 wks, and it tasted so gross to me. I can't drink it at all anymore. Give yourself a break from it, and in time, you won't want it anymore. The first week without it was hard, but after that,I didn't miss it at all

Banded For Two Years 1/2 And Haven't Met My Goal!!!
debbie221 replied to italia2020's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the same issue! It will be three years for me in Nov. I've lost 65 lbs and my goal is 25 lbs more and I just can't lose it! It is so frustrating! I have been filled so much, I can only eat very small amounts, I walk every morning before work and have added weights in the evenings 3 times a week, but still nothing! I just keep hoping eventually I'll get past this plateau at some point. It just sucks when you're so close to your goal and just can't get there. Good luck to you! -
I have had my band for 2yrs, and I have never had painful burps, I have had painful swallowing if I haven't chewed well enough. I have not used a straw since my surgery because the excess air can cause bloating (as told to me by my surgeon) and I don't want to risk it. I bought myself a travel mug to sip from that no one else uses so that eliminates the gross factor. And lastly, you can easily gain the weight back. The band does restrict how much you eat, but not what you eat. If you continue with a poor diet, high in sugar and carbs and processed foods, the weight will not come off.my surgeon reminds me at every visit that the band is just a tool to help with dieting and exercise, it is not a cure for obesity. You still have to do the work. Good luck,I hope all goes well for you!

Major Complications Due To Rapid Weight Loss
debbie221 replied to wasamkins's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have never heard of a prolapsed bladder due to weight loss. I did know however that your risk of gallstones increases by 80% after lap band surgery. I was on meds for 6months post op to prevent them. Maybe the data was not available at the time of your surgery
