Not to correct but NSV=non scale victory, such as smaller size clothes, inches lost, etc. Today is day 3 in HI, it's paradise for sure but I'm having he!! Eating right, I have to get over this fear of vomiting or ripping staples & leaks! We bout groceries the first day but my dr wants me to consume calories every 2 hours! I got some small lunch ables with cracker, meat & cheese. 13g Protein. Took all day long yest at 2 pieces at a time but I got it in. We have a small cooler & I just stuck in zip bag & put in the cooler for 2 more hours then repeat the process. No probs on fluids packed plenty Water & Powerade in cooler. Got my 1st weird look at bubba gump when I asked to order 1 shrimp & veggie grilled skewer. She refused so I pd $20 bucks for 2 shrimp & one bite grilled zucchini.

Joni, you have no idea how bad I want a diet coke! Oh the things I would do for one! Its misery!
-
Oh no Sheila, that dumping has got to be terrible! My mom had gastric bypass 23 years ago and I have watched her all these years. When she get dumping syndrome it is BAD misery. Her episodes now are few and far between, but fairly common for a long time. I do not want to go through that ever! I would rather be in pain than nauseated. Nausea is just pure misery for me. Notime, yuck but a lesson learned, I am hoping that I have already learned from watching my mom and grandmother for years. Since bypass, my mother doesn't handle dense meats well and my grandmother could never handle sweets. So weird, same procedure, same surgeon. Our bodies are just all wired differently I guess. I have been terrified of vomiting since surgery to the point I stress about it and just didnt want to eat for fear. That was what surgeon told me, quit stressing! Be careful, but if it happens you will have learned what doesn't work and wont repeat it. Joni, wonderful news about your postop! Keep on going! This is such a learning curve for all of us! Im so glad we have each other for support! Lord knows, I need it!

Had my 3 week postop yesterday and he said everything looks perfect! YAY He said I can pretty much have anything that dont require chewing 30 times to swallow, and to quit stressing so much about not being able to tolerate the Protein Drinks. Although he would like to see me @ 60-70g a day, he is more concerned that the majority of my nutrition come from Protein. I told him I was pretty much living off scrambled eggs, (2 a day) because I was pretty scared to try much else because Im terrified of a leak. He reassured me that the chances of that are very slim, to use good judgement and not to worry so much, that I had followed all the rules up till now so obviously I had it under control. He cleared me for a cup of coffee, and said I can have a diet coke in 2 more weeks. I asked him about carbonation stretching out the sleeve, and he said that is totally not true just to sip it slowly as it may make me gassy/burpy. He was very pleased about my 29 lb weight loss, and told me the stall I went through was totally normal, and sometime happen frequently so no stressing about it, just keep on keeping on, the weight will come off. His goal weight for me is 120, and I told him I was 130 when I graduated HS and was very slender. He said 130 is fine, but 120 will allow the 7-15lb bounceback around 3 years and still keep me in a normal BMI. All in all, a very good post op! Im going today to get me some shaved deli meat, sounds delish! NSV~~~went shopping yesterday for a few things for Hawaii, I didn't have to shop in the "womans" section, got things from the ladies section, I have went from a 18W to a loose 16 pants, and a XXL shirt to XL!!! WooHoooooooo!

Losing Inches!
kwindham replied to JimmyGotSLEEVED's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
lol -
So I have lost a grand total of 24 pounds . 12 the week before surgery (4/23) and 12 the week after surgery. Since one week post op, not an oz! I drink all day long, but I am not meeting my protein goals, I am only getting about 40 per day because I absulutly cannot stomach the protein shakes. I have tried many many and just the smell and texture make me want to gag. My diet mainly consist rigtht now of scrambled eggs, watermelon (lil bit) and carnation instant breakfast with skim or 2% milk. I drink water all day with special k protein water mix (5g). I have had no nausea since surgery day and no vomiting at all. My BM are regular. I havent started an excercise regime yet as I don't want to push my body just yet, I want to make sure im healed, but I walk all day long! We live on 10 acres in the country and have farm animals and I am constantly walking down to the pasture and back up to tend to animal, plus I just get out and walk with my dogs in the yard. My dr cleared me yest to swim in my pool so I will start some mild water excercise today. All in all I feel pretty good, minor soreness still but nothing to even take tylenol for. I have a very busy hectic life so I am not sedentary AT ALL ever! LOL I don't have time to do nothing. Also, Im not losing inches either. people have said they can see loss in my face, as can I but from no where else, and I can assure you my clothes are not getting any looser on me. Im really bummed, should a stall start this early after postop? Also, I don't have TOM, I had a complete hyst 6 years ago at age 30. Could HRT be causing this or is it just a stall and I need to ride it out? So very very annoyed!!!
-
Also, am I the only lucky (not) one going through a stall? Do any of you still feel swollen? I have lost 24 pounds and seems like my pants are tighter! UUGGGHHHHHH
-
Hi everyone! :tongue2: How is everyone doing? I have had a long day and I am ready to watch Vampire Diaries season finale in my comfy chair! LOL I am having sooo much problems getting my Protein in! I bought some different kinds today, but don't have high hopes of being able to choke it down, but Im sure gonna give it a heck of a try! What are yall eating that has protein but not any kind of cheese? I don't eat cheese in any shape form or fashion, cant stand the smell of it. I am living on scrambled eggs and carnation instant Breakfast, and they are good, but eventually Im going to get tired of them. Oh what I would do for an olive garden salad right now! Anyway time is passing and soon we will be back to normal foods, just have to wait it out! I wonder if chicken noodle soup is ok on mushy without the tiny chunks of chicken? My NUT does not have any carb restrictions on my paperwork, just says to work them in as tolerated?

So Very Annoyed! Not Losing
kwindham replied to kwindham's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for all the replies. I went to sams today and bought a case of premier Protein, and I will try that tonight. I also went by Vitamin world and bought some Syntrax and a couple other kinds. I then went to smoothie king and bought a gladiator (45g P) took one sip and promptly got rid of that. UUUgggghhh. I hope I can stomach at least one of the others I bought today. I have already tried about 10 kinds and they all have a smell/aftertaste/something that I just cant take. I have not vomited since surgery and have no desire to start vomiting, but Im a little weird, if it looks/smells/taste weird it will hit my gag reflex and promptly come back out. I have always been that way. Camarillo~~~I LOVE my home and land and critters. Very very peaceful and serene, but lots of work! LOL Right now I have brand new baby lion head bunnies and a baby faiting goat. Cutest thing you ever seen! -
Louisiana~~already hotter than hell, and dry as a bone! LOL

I also dont like the fage. I was thinking of trying to find some recipes to hide the taste, so thanks for the recipe and link. I am going to go to walmart today and pick up a few things and try to find a way to get the fage down, I just cannot do Protein drinks!!! Yuck, they all have a smell and an aftertaste to me. Thanks for all your kind words. Yes both of my sons are still recovering in different ways I guess. My oldest (head injury) short term memory is shot, and he has trouble grasping new information which has been a real pia as he is a freshman in high school this year. It has been really rough on him, he missed almost the entire first sememster and then trying to catch up with a head injury has almost been impossible. but he goes to an awesome school and they have really worked with him so that has helped. He is very lucky, other than the scars, if you dont know him well you would never know his head was stuck in a windshield while a 3/4ton truck flipped 4 times. Hes lucky to even be alive. My other son (13)had several minor/mod injuries but has done fairly well except for the PTSD. He came to first and climbed out the back windshield and thought his brother was dead. He called 911 but didn't know the name of the road they were on. The truck was billowing smoke and he couldn't get his brothers door open to get him out. He thought he was going to burn up. So this has left some very deep scars on him mentally. Yes it has been an extremely challenging 8 months for my whole family. I thank God every day my kids are still with me, it could have been much worse! Thank you all for your kind words.

I can eat about 2/3 of a scrambled egg, or a half deviled. maybe a tablespoon of tuna salad or refried Beans. What I want to know is how in the world yall can get those 60 oz in of fluids. I drink drink drink all day and cannot do it. I must be doing something wrong. Yesterday I got about 55 oz in and was miserable and bloated. And I stayed up until midnight to do it, I got up at 6:30a. I cannot figure this out and I am so scared of getting dehydrated, esp as hot as it is here (Central Louisiana) and I spend a fair amout of time outside. I dont go for my post surgery checkup until 3 weeks post op which is another week. I was supposed to go this Monday but I had to call and reschedule because that day fell on the day my son had his appt with the nuerophychiatrist (My kids were in a bad car accident 9/18/11 and he had head trauma/brain hemmoraging so we are still seeing drs) and I cannot reschedule that. Oh what to do???/

I am really struggling. I cannot get my 60 oz fluids in and find time to eat, & my Protein intake is a joke! I have spent boo coos os $ & cannot tolerate the protein drinks. I have special k protein Water that I like but I can only get about 2 20oz bottles down in a day & they only have 5g each. I have been eating 1/2 egg twice day so that adds Iittle more but still way off goal. I feel like I have really accomplished something if I get more than 50 oz fluids in. On the other hand, I'm very active (we have farm animals, & I have a dog breeding program) plus 2 teenage boys 13&15 & my dh is 1/2 way around the world in the gulf of Saudi. I h ave pretty much had very minimal help when my brother was able to get off work & he came cleaned my house for me & changed my bed sheets. . It's been rough but this has forced me to stay active & I feel pretty good except I'm tired a lot. That will pass I know. Just have to power thru Btw~ I had a tblsp retried Beans 20 min ago & they were awesome!

I'm so sorry your having problems. Vent away!!
-
I'm the same way. I woke yesterday am feeling great. By noon I was wiped out & today I really considered letting my kids skip school (13 & 15 yo) so I didn't have to get out of bed. I forced myself up & I have been good for nothing today. To tired to really even function. I took a 2 hour nap but it wasn't enough. I'm soooo tired!!!
-
Thanks! After reading & rereading & having my mom read my food allowances, I fixed a scrambled egg. I remembered my surgeon telling me that eggs are a perfect Protein & I haven't even been coming close to goal on protein~~~cannot tolerate the shakes. I had about 2/3 of a medium egg & OMG I think it was the best scrambled egg ever! I briefly looked at egg face this am. Looks very helpful. I will def be checking it out her sight more thoroughly. Is anyone else feeling literally exhausted?

What are y'all allowed to eat soft & mushy? My papers I think are way to vague. Mine says start introducing puréed or soft fruits vegetables dairy or oatmeal. So does that mean I can try eating maybe bananas & eggs etc? I'm so confused! Btw~ my nut printed this straight from a dietician website. Rd411.com. Check it out

I have to be there @ 6 am! Wish me luck!!!

Notime~~~OMG I couldnt stand the not knowing if I was losing. I am very much an instant gratification type person. I really have to reign myself in with a lot of things! And seriously soft foods tomorrow? Im soooo jealous!
