Still Have An Appetite 4 Days Post Op
hollirrose replied to jlbee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was able to drink and had no discomfort from two days post op. I also felt huungry for about a month after surgery, which can be normal. I also never felt full with liquid or mushy foods. I thought I was broken too. Once cleared for all foods I felt the restriction everyone was talking about. I eat 1 to 1.5 oz of protein and feel full. At first your tummy is still numb, you may take a bit for the hunger hormone to get out of your system, it is hard to tell the diff between real huunger and head hunger. Trust your doctor and follow your plan. You wont fail! -
Dr. Garcia Post Op Diet...are You Following It?
hollirrose posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Just a quick question about the post op diet with Garcia-- Are you following his post op diet? I needed more structure then what was provided in the paperwork. I do want to clarify that I did follow his plan for the first 5 weeks for the food progression but then changed it up. I didnt like the idea of all the carbs and stuff. Im just curious about everyone else. -
I keep a 44 oz plastic gas station cup on my desk at work. My goal every day is to fill it first thing when I get to work and make sure that I finish it before I leave for the day. Between a cup of decaf coffee in the morning and what I drink when I get home... I easily get my water in. Keep in mind I almost never drink plain ol' water. I cant even gag down a glass. I use mio, decaf ice tea, sugar free drink mixes. I log everything on myfitnesspal.com. It is free on your phone or online. My name is hollirrose if you set up an account!

I dont often drink plain water... I kind of hate the taste of it. =). I drink decaf tea w/ sweet and low, decaf coffee, the sugar free kool aid type stuff, and use mio water flavoring. I eat mostly meat 1.5 to 2 oz-- chicken, hamburger, fish, pork chops, and some lunch meats. I do eat low carb veggies like cauliflower, cucumbers, celery. I also eat eggs and cheeses. I do go out to eat and even eat fast food (grilled chicken snack wrap w/O tortilla, cheeseburger no bun, etc). I weigh everything on a cheap kitchen scale, which I would recommend everyone get. I had no idea how much I would use it. I log everything into myfitnesspal.com on my phone. It tracks my calories, carbs, and protein. It seems like a hassle at first but really it only takes seconds to enter. My name is hollirrose if you want to add me. I keep my food diary open so you can see what I really eat. Hope this helps!

Gum = gas in my tummy. The same thing with drinking from a staw. Some people dont have any problems with either and do both. Its not harmful but can be uncomfortable.

So I am 5 months out and follow the 600 - 800 calories/64 oz min water/min 60 prot/20 to 40 carbs that a lot of people seem to follow. I measure everything and only eat 1.5 to 2 oz of meat for each meal. I could eat more and I could def fit in many more carbs if I wanted. I feel satisfied with these portions...not full. Well, not full like in the pre sleeve days. Sometime, if I feel a little crazy, I add in a few low carb veggie snacks. Carbs = Cravings and being hungrier for many of us. Just because you can eat more doent mean that you should. Losing weight pretty quickly (115 lbs) and feeling more energy lets me know this is the right plan for me.

Stupid Carb Question.
hollirrose replied to ljperez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was tired from about week 5 to 8 post op. I played with the idea of upping my calories and carbs (600 cal/min 60 prot/under 40 carbs) but I didnt. I even went and had my lab work done but all my nuumbers were great. Turns out ... I was just tired...really tired. Now, I have much more energy. I stayed the course and it worked itself out. Im 5 months out and down 114 lbs. This is what worked for me but we are all different. Hope this helps!! -
Really Disappointed With Such Poor Weight Loss-Insight?
hollirrose replied to samomom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It would be helpful if you would post a few days of what you are eating and how much. How many calories, prot, carbs are you eating on an average day? If you are using my fitness pal... Post your username and make sure your food diary is open for others to see. Many of us use my fitness pal and could make suggestions from there. If you arent using my fitness pal or something like it-- start! Weighing, measuring, tracking every bite can make a big difference. -
90 isnt to much... There is a magic number that is to much but that should not be even close. Many people get 120ish. I get a min of 60 and anything over that is a bonus.

Clothing Size And Weight Lost-Help!
hollirrose replied to jewels1227's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
. I dont know... I think some people might have noticed and not said anything but not many. At about 70 or 80 lbs lost I finally took some photos, I think they are on my profile. I thought people must be blind if they couldnt see the loss. Hell, even I could see it. Sometime when you are big... People just see you as big. Now one or two people a day say something about my loss. It is nice to have it acknowledged but it is also a little awkward. :-). I guess I am never happy! It is also hard after a certain amount lost to own up to the amount. Yea... I lost 110 lbs but I am still pretty darn plump. I know people knew that I was fat... Maybe they didnt realize just how fat I was. All i can say is that I am happy to have theese kind of issues! -
Clothing Size And Weight Lost-Help!
hollirrose replied to jewels1227's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I was a 22/24 and it took just about 50 lbs to get to a smaller size. Now it is about 20 - 25 lbs to go down another size. Ohh... And it took about 70 lbs for anyone to notice (outside of family) that I lost weight! Just hang on and it will happen!! -
9 Mos Out....cant Eat :( Help!
hollirrose replied to kayte819's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm only 5 months out... So Im still a newbie and dont have the experience that you and others do. For me, I feel much more restriction on certain days and sometimes for even a few weeks at a time. Right now I am struggling to eat 1 oz of fish. Last week i could have polished that off pretty quickly and feel satisfied ... Not full. I struggle to get in 600 calories a day and my shakes are 160 of those calories. I feel like I eat less and feel full faster then I did in the begining. Be sure and post what your doctor says. Keep us posted! -
I was sleeved by Garcia in April. I posted my experience on here. I didnt have anything negative to say. Check out my post if you can find it on here. There were a couple of things though that were a little diffrent then what I expected. That being said I am tickled with my progress (110 lbs) over the last four months. I would have the sleeve again and would use Garcia again. Good luck!!!

Anyone Else In The 350+ Pre-Op Weight Range?
hollirrose replied to Chicago1962's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi there-- I was 344 when I started this process. I am about 4 3/4 months out and have lost 109 lbs so far! I have choosen to do the 600 - 800 calories, less than 40 carbs, min 60 protein plan. I love my sleeve and feel like it has been a sucess. Good luck with your journey! -
So true about being done eating in just a few mins and just sitting and watching ...and waiting for others to finish. I am not proud that I feel a little yucky about how much people eat. Here is the deal- I would never say anything to anyone else about the amount of food they are eating. I know that I would still eat like that if I could. That is why I had the sleeve done. I feel like I can post my thoughts on here because there are others who understand how I feel about it. I doubt any ones thoughts are kind all of the time.
-
I look at what people eat now and notice the quanity as well. In all honesty, I am a little disgusted. I know that was me a few months ago... And I would never say anything to anyone about it... But the feelings are there. For the pre op people__I also swore I would never think these things either. I would read these types of posts and cringe. Oh my... How things have changed!

How Much You've Lost
hollirrose replied to luckylady131's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use my weight when i started looking into mexico vsg. I had to get my bmi down a few or it was going to cost an extra $500! Talk about a good incentive. I have lost 105 lbs. This includes the 2 week pre op diet. Surgery was 4.5 months ago. Whoot! -
Attn: 40 Bmis And Over
hollirrose replied to DanaInNewOrleans's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My stating bmi was 49. I got to around 45 on my pre op diet. I had my surgery 4 months ago today and I have lost 97 lbs. Damn those last three pounds but I will be joining the "century club" later this week. I don't feel well if I eat certain foods (bread, trukey, other sugary carbs) but otherwise life is normal for me. I have no regrets! -
I went to the store for my family and picked up easy things for my husband to "cook". Our son is only 5 so it was all on my husband. I bought things like bread, lunch meat, box meals, frozen pizza. I felt guilty about how unhealthy most of the stuff was.... But it got us through. While they ate I went on a walk. It will get easier. A couple of days post op I resumed cooking without any problems. I now cook meat that I will eat and make a veg and starch for them.

Multivitamin Making Me Sick?
hollirrose replied to Azemarie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I now take my multi vit at bedtime. If I feel yucky from it I don't know because I am sleeping. I felt sick when I took it in the morning. -
I always like seeing progress photos so here are some of mine. I had surgery on 4/20/12 and have lost 85 lbs. A few of those were pre-op. I eat 600-700 calories a day that I track on MFP/min of 60 protein/min 64 oz water/max 25 carbs. I have totally got this! My only regret is that I didn't pick out a more attractive "progress photo" outfit.

How To Eat Fast Food With Vsg
hollirrose replied to ChristyLove's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok so I know many are against fast food.... But mcdonalds let's you customize your meal on the website. I eat the grilled chicken wrap minus the wrap. Their website tells you the calories/protein for that meal. I get several of the wraps without the tortilla. Really there are several menu items (without tortilla or bun) that fit in our diet. Red Robbin also let's you customize your meal and gives you the stats. Love websites like that! -
What Do You Tell People
hollirrose replied to jennrus's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told close frieds and family before I had surgery. I told co workers when I got back. It will be pretty hard to hide if you eat lunch with anyone. Trust me.. they will notice the toddler size portion of food you eat. I also had this fear that I would have this done and somehow fail. I really didn't want people to know if I failed. Now that I have lost a pretty big amount of weight I am more open about it.
