4 days post op, drinking too fast?

Many have problems with liquids after surgey. You and I are lucky. I was concerned and talked to my doctor about it. He said not to gulp but otherwise drink away. That was 9 months ago. I have fantastic restriction with food but still can down 32 oz of liquid in no time at all. It helps me get in over 100 oz of water, crystal light, tea a day which speeds up my weight loss. Follow your doctors orders or just call them and see if they are ok with drinking more. Best of luck...but it doesnt seem like you will need it!
  3. I had an easy recovery, could drink unlimited amounts of water, could tolorate prot shakes with no problems. I thought I was broken. Turns out that I was just lucky. I never felt restriction until I got to solid foods. At 9 months out a "meal" for me is 2 oz of meat. If I get full feeling, I have eaten to much. I go for satisfied and only eat measured out portions of food. Measuring and tracking you food is a good habit to get into. I weigh and measure every bite of food I eat and track it on my fitness pal. Try not to worry, follow the rules you have been given.... Sit back and enjoy the ride!

    9 Months Progress Photo/-172 LBS

Ok...so it has to be our little secret... I started at 340 and have lost 172 lbs. I am 5'7 tall. There is a great website ...something like body image gallery (you will have to google it) that will show you what real life people at your hight and weight will look like at certain weights. This was pretty helpful to me. When I started this process I picked a size 12 as my goal. Well I got there and was suprised to find out that as an apple shaped person I was still pretty fat. The size 12 I had in my head was hour glass shapped and must have been amazon height. I am now a 10 and still look fairly hefty. My 20ish lbs I want to go will put me into my normal bmi range with a little room for bounce back.

Thank you! I have a ton of super cute shoes. That is one thing as a big girl that I liked to shop for. So the one down side (not) of losing big... My shoe size has gone down by at least a 1/2 size and maybe even a full size. Someone at goodwill will hit the motherload when I donate them! Im waiting to replace them until I get the last 20 lbs off.

I log, track, weigh, and measure all the food that I eat on my fitness pal. I eat less than 40 carbs a day. I actually keep them closer to 20 grams a day. Hope this helps.

I have lost 172 lbs. I do weigh within one pound of what I have lost... If that makes sense. =)
  9. Just found this post... I know it is a little old. I am 8.5 months out from surgery with Garcia. Ive lost 168 lbs and am about 16 lbs from a normal bmi. I think a lot of us Mexico sleevers spend oddles of time in the Mexico forum pre op. Post op I dont come back here much and spend most of my time reading and posting in other areas. This maybe why you dont hear much feed back from those of us who had surgey with Garcia. I posted my experience with him and am totally happy. To be honest, I have not followed his post op diet. I do the 600-800 cal/60 + prot/64 oz water. I dont know if his post op diet would have worked as well as the one I have been following...but it may have. Let me know if you have any questions! Best of luck to you.

    End of my rope

I dont work out so I keep my calories at around 600/carbs under 40/water over 64 oz/prot over 60. Im 8 months out and this plan works for me. Im down 165 lbs (a few of those pre op) with only about 15 to get to a normal bmi. No real stalls. I know some have higher calories/carbs ...and that may have worked but because this was the eating plan for most of the fast losing vets, I have followed it. I weigh and log every bite of food on my fitness pal. If you arent signed up.. I would! Hope this helps!

    Tuna?

At 8 month out I still cant do tuna from a can or packet. It wont even work if i try mixing in mayo or greek yougert. Feels aweful in my tummy. Starkist started to make a tuna salad sandwhich ready packet. I can eat this. Give it a try...they sell it right next to all of the plain tuna foil pack thingys. 100 cal/3 fat/4 carbs/13 protein for the entire 3 oz pouch. Normally I only eat 2 oz of dense protein but I eat the entire thing and feel satisfied..not full. Love it!

    Im hungry are you?

I was hungry until I got to the "real" food. At almost 8 months out a meal is 2 oz of protein. No room for veg or anything else and I stay full for hours. At times, I do still get head hunger. It is tough. I do find that it happens less and less often but even when it does hit... I know what it is and usually ignore it.

    Anyone on here in Kansas?

Im in Overland Park! I didnt use a local doctor tho. Maybe I will see you in some local thrift stores, my newest addiction, shopping for smaller clothes.

    Sooo Sick Of Protein Shakes!

I buy unflavored protein from GNC. I like being able to go to the store and not have to order it online. GNC will also take back anything that you dont like with a reciept.

16 Days was the day good or bad?

If you ate 2 hot dogs and some chili you didn't come anywhere close to making your min protein goal. I think most on here are supposed to get a min of 60 protein to stay healthy. I do eat hot dogs too...but not very often. They are higher calorie and low protein. I buy a rotiserie chicken and eat on that for several meals a week. 2 oz is something like 43 calories and 14 protein. Hot dogs have around 120 calories and only 4-6 protein. I also am a low carber so I dont do Wendys chili. I would start a my fitness pal account, if you dont already have one. This will keep track of all of the food that you eat and let you know where you are nut wise for the day. Did you recieve a plan to follow from your doctor? Are you meeting those goals daily? Good job knowing when you are full... And good luck with your journey!
  16. Not even comparable... Post op weight loss is pretty darn easy.
  17. I started out at a little over 300 lbs and it took a good 60 or 70 lbs for anyone to notice...who didnt know that I had surgery. It also took almost 50 lbs to go down one pant size. I started at a 24. Now someone compliments me at least one a day and sizes drop very quickly. Im going broke even thrift store shopping and almost long for the days when my weight loss isnt noticed. Sounds silly, right? Just wait and people will really start to notice your soon!
  18. I am on my fitness pal.com and have my food log open. You can see exactly what I eat and the amount I eat at one sitting. I love MFP and have a ton of vsg friends on there. I look at their logs and get ideas of foods and meals. I check it more then facebook now. If you have an account, add me. Hollirrose is my user name. My "diet" is basically meat (hamburger, chicken, pork, tuna), cheese, protein shakes, eggs, and a few low carb veggies. I tend to be a boring eater and eat alot of the same foods every day. It halps me meet my low calorie/low carb/high protein goals. There is a website _ the world according to eggface that oodles of people get recipies from. She has everything from liquid to mushy stage recipies on there.
  19. I'm a Garcia mexico sleever 7 months out. I have lost 148 lbs (a few of those pre op). I was wearing a 24 and now am in a size 12. I did not follow his post op diet. I didnt really like his plan and needed more rules. I follow the 600 calorie/+60 oz protein/+64 oz fluid/-40 carbs. I have great restriction. A meal for me is 2 oz protein. Once I had my surgery I dont really go to the Mexico forum any longer. I spend my time looking at the post op/success/diet and nut forum now. That may be the case of alot of Mexico sleevers, including Garcia's. I had a good experience with Garcia and would do it again. I am happy with the results so far!
  20. For me they are not a good option. There are to many carbs and not enough protein. At 7 months out I eat 2 oz of prot for a meal. I would never reach my min of 60 protein if I was eating even 1/2 the meal. I buy a rotiserie chicken once a week and keep it in the fridge. I portion out 2 oz and eat on it all week adding diffrent sauces or cheeses to mix it up. I also buy frozen seasoned fish and pop it in the microwave for a quick meal. Another idea is premade tuna salad in the pouch. All are low carb carb, high protein, quick, and cheap. Hope this helps!
  21. Not a vet.. only 7 months out... If you know where you are going in advance, look at the menu online. Most resturants post nut value and calories online. It is comforting to know what I am going to order before I get there. Some people in my life know about the surgery and some dont. When eating with someone who doesnt know I order a meal. No one has ever noticed how little I eat. They are busy shoveling down their food. People do notice if I dont at least order a water to drink so I order a water and just dont drink it. If I go to a food day at work I carry around a plate of food. It prevents any questions and no one notices that I dont eat it. You will find food pushers..even when people know about the wls. Having something on your plate prevents the coments and constant "oh..you shoud really try this" or "you should just have a little". I dont usuaaly say that I am on a diet but I say that I had a late lunch or something. Hope this helps!

    Can't Stay Full !

I would ask about the ppi. Many people take it post op. I never had any acid problems pre op and didnt feel like I had acid post op. I know I need it because if I forget to take my pill, I feel hungry. With it... I dont feel hungry at all unless it is head hunger. The further out I get it is easier to know when it is head hunger. When I truly need to eat it feels more like I am empty. Also, for me, full is not the same as it was pre op. I eat set portions of food only. I dont feel full like pre op... It is more like satisfied. Keep on doing what you are doing!

    Can't Stay Full !

I was hungry until I got to "real" food. Liquids and mushy never made me feel full. Now my meal is 2 oz of protein (chicken, hamburger, fish) and that is it. I stay full for 4 hours on to oz of dense protein. You may also ask your doctor about a ppi. Acid feels like hunger. Since taking a ppi I dont feel hunger most days.

    Can't Stay Full !

You need to provide more details ... How many calories/carbs/protein/water are you getting a day?
