I have had that issue as well. It is one of those deals that damned if you do and damned if you don't. I have just had to talk myself into which is the more temporary condition -- weight gain or pain.

I'll take the endoscopy any day of the week over the colonoscopy (sp?). Had them done on the same day last year.

Thank you for the suggestions. The closest type of sports store to me is an Academy (about 60 miles away). Will they be able to do it or will I need to wait until I go the 'big city'?

just realized that the surgeon I am planning on using only does surgeries at the hospital that I am required to use the third week of the month. Because of speaking engagements that I am committed to that means at least November! And that would be the week of Thanksgiving. Have any of you changed surgeons midstream?

My Psychological Evaluation

I am in TX as well. Mine cost $60 and took less than an hour. Just wanted to be sure that I had a support plan since I live at least an hour from any bariatric surgeons. -
Did Anyone Just Go And Get Your Surgery And Talk To Your Md After?
beefalogal replied to Naturals's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I made the mistake of letting my gp know and he was upset about the Mexico route. Same old stuff about a stateside doctor not being willing to help you out if there are complications. From what I have read on here most with complications had it done stateside. I still have not actually heard from someone that was refused care or that insurance abandoned since they went to Mexico. I am wondering if it is just an urban legend. -

I remember wearing a real girdle when in high school and weighed all of 115 lb. Now you couldn't force one on me. Guess they are only comfortable when you don't need them. My highschool pals and I had a talk about this the other day. Great memories of girdles, soap cans for rollers.... Guess I am dating myself !!!!

Attended my first nutrition class at Dr. Kim's office today. Lots of info given at a very fast clip. The part I remember most is that I had to commit to 3 goals before my next class in a month. The choices I made are scary when you really start putting them in place. 1. Keep food record, identify eating triggers and avoic eating while distracted. That was all in one choice!!! 2. No more carbonated drinks. I do love my diet cokes/pepsi. It does make me grieve! 3. gradual onset of exercise of 30 minutes a day 5 days a week. Since I have a month before my next visit I believe that number 2 will be my last one to accomplish! I will work on one for a week before I add the second. Habits are very hard to make or break. It will be worth it!

New Plan How Many Had Surgery In Mexico?
beefalogal replied to changewithin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did the insurance company say anything about not covering you for complications (if any) when you choose to go to Mexico rather than wait for the insurance company? I have Aetna and am in the process of being approved. Lots of i's to dot and t's to cross before you are sure of the approval. The co pay is nearly as much as going to Mexico so am very tempted to just do that. The aftercare insurance thing is all that is stopping me. -
I have always hated that insurance requirements are so rigid. I have Aetna and they will approve the procedure but the copayment is nearly as much as the price in Mexico. Am I being crazy and inpatient to consider just going to Mexico and being done with it? I have done the sleep study (used a cpap now or twelve years but they did say that I need to increase the pressure considerably). Doctor is requiring a new endoscopy and I had one eighteen months ago. Still need the psych exam and three visits with the NUT. Anyone else considered this?

Folks Who Have Had Complications
beefalogal replied to Pegsinthewoods's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Great thread. I have an open thread on another topic but this would be a great place for the question as well. I have insurance coverage but the copay is about the same amount as the self pay in Mexico without all the hoops to jump through. I have some concern that if there are complications with a out of country surgery that my insurance would not cover them once I am home. You hear this a lot but no one has actually said it happened to them. Can anyone here address whether they had problems with coverage if needed for complications. My PCP will follow me without any question so only concerned with insurance coverage. Thanks. -
I have heard from many that insurance would not cover complications but have not actually talked to ome one that had happened to if complications happened. Any that can speak up about that happening to them? Just wondering.

A newbie lurker here wishing you the best. Horrible events to you but I have to say that I am majorly impressed that you were able to drive yourself home. And four hours distance. Independent there aren't you!!! In the language of Anne of Green Gables "you are a kindred spirit"

Newbie That Is Over It!
beefalogal replied to donewithdiabetes's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am in similar circumstances as you. A little older but have started the process of getting the insurance company to contribute. My insurance is Aetna and I need to be at their mercy for 90 days to do the nutrition classes. Stay in touch. -
Since I travel for my work at least 4 days a week I am looking for a small blender or smoothy maker that will fit in the checked bag. Any one have any suggestions?

Thank you so much for the suggestions. Isn't America great to offer so many types! It may come down to what is the lightest since it must be carried in a suitcase. Perhaps the Mother's Day angel will decide for me!
