Surgery Set For The 20Th ....nervous Wreck!
beefalogal replied to sunsetblvd68's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Appears to be many of us this Thursday. My nerves have not really hit yet. I have hada couple of surgeries in my life and never hada bad reaction. In fact, when I had my ovarian cyst removed back in 1974 I lay there thinking my verticle incision was killing me. When they changed the dressing I found I had the bikini incision and I realized the pain had been more anticipated than real. lol -
Any Texas Gastric Sleeve Buddies?
beefalogal replied to w2ben's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I live in a farming community in Hamilton county. I am a patient of Dr. Kim and will be sleeved on this Thursday. To my knowledge I am the first for Hamilton county. I know I am the first for my PCP and he is following it closely. -
Sprouts Farmers Market Protein And Soup
beefalogal replied to susanfaye's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I found several seeds for sprouting at Wholr Foods and Central Market but for some reason alfalfa are hard to find now. Back in the 80's they were plentiful. I do have chia seeds but have not tried to sprout them. Seeds marketed for planting are not usually safe for sprouting. They are frequently treated. Thanks for helping keep an eye out for them. -

I am going to the 'big' city for Monday and Tuesday and have found several in the DFW area. Will definitely stop and shop before coming back to the 'big' city for my surgery on Thursday. I have been looking for alfalfa seeds for my hubby to sprout when on his rotations in Angola Africa and so far I have struck out at Whole Foods and such. Thanks for bringing this store to my attention. -
Butter I do not remember any disagreements that he was involved in. Tried to pull up some of his old entries but couldn't find them or figure out how to do it. That is strange. Maybe someone else has knowledge of what happened. Makes you wonder how save it is to respond on here.

Joisey01 - I will be with you on the 20th. The liquide diet is going better than I expected. I was traveling all week so just shaking up the protein drinks and not enjoying them but as soon as I got home I made one with the blender. What a difference! Felt like I was drinking a DQ blizzard!!! Noreen

I have Aetna open choice as well. I could have gone to Mexico for much cheaper than what I am having to contribute. My policy is a 75/25 plan and I just got off the phone with the hospital. I will need $5005.00 for just them next Thursday. I have spent over $3000. on co pays for all the lead up stuff. American health care is crazy but I have not seen a better system as of yet. American doctors put the fear of complications if you go outside te country. You better believe that I will go out of country if I decide tat I need plastic surgery.

Diabetic Sleevers
beefalogal replied to Im done mooing.'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Diabetes is my first reason for having this surgery. I am on metformin 2000mg daily, glipizide 20 mg daily, 45 units of lantus. Currently on the pre op diet as surgery is scheduled for 9/20 and I am checking my levels much more frequently as I have been reducing the dosages due to crashes. I do feel much clearer headed now. Doc took me off lasic already and I am shocked that I do miss it. I seem to have more headaches and having some issues with fluid build up. Just trying to drink more water. -
I ended up traveling with a co worker this week and knew that I would not be able to hide my liquid diet so I bit the bullet and sent out the following email to the team last night. Only positive replies have been received but I am not naive enough to think that I have not been a topic of conversation today. Hi Team As most of you know, I have been struggling with my blood glucose levels for some time. The highs and lows are becoming more unpredictable. I have been working with my PCP and we have a plan in place. I will be going out on a month’s leave as of Sept 19. There is a surgery that has been successful in many (unfortunately not all) situations such as mine. It is called a sleeve gastectomy and involves removing a portion of my stomach. I have done all the pre requirements (dietician, EDG, cardiac stress test, psych visit, blah, blah, blah) and am sitting on go for the surgery. My hernia will be repaired at the same time. Along with the lovely benefit of weight loss, many improve cholesterol, triglyceride, blood pressure as well as the glucose levels. At the moment it is the most reasonable option that I have. My goal is to empty my pill box! I am currently on a pre op diet that is hideous – Protein Shakes only until the surgery. You need to feel sorry for Jesse as we have ended up traveling together next week and I may be crumpy. Two weeks after the surgery is also only liquids and then soft food is reintroduced to my new, smaller stomach. I believe that I will call her “Dolly” since I have no daughters or grand-daughters to bestow with that favorite name. When all healing is complete I will be able to eat all foods again, just in smaller portions. The goal is to eat Protein first, then your veggies! I am looking forward to improving my quality of life with better health. I do not want to be looked upon as the poster child for this surgery (much too much responsibility for me!!) but will be happy to answer any questions that you may have about it. My surgeon has done over 4000 of these so I am very comfortable with my decision. Noreen

Just Started Liquid Diet Today! Please Pray
beefalogal replied to amandatxgrl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First day of pre op diet for me today as well. I have a call into my PCP about my diabetic meds. I took my 10 mg glipizide and 1000 mg of meteor min this morning. It was too much apparently as I have bottomed out several times today. Nurse called back and will hold off the evening glipizide, method min and lantus. I am currently at 73 and did take several glucose tablets today. Anyone else have to adjust this quickly? I will talk to doctor tomorrow. He was in ER all day today. -
I have only now really thought about today being my last day before my pre op. I had planned on having a healthy, filling lunch. Instead got up at 4:30 AM, drove 3.5 hours to San Antonio, worked till 3:30 PM, and drove 3.5 hours home. I will be looking forward to eight weeks (or so) when I get my next chance to have normal but smaller portions of food. I am ready to get this dance started.

Liver Shrinkage When Losing Weight?
beefalogal replied to Angelmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I start my pre-op on Thursday and Dr. Kim is ultra conservative. I'll still be working the following week and I am worried about the flying and bowel issues. Things are already unpredictable and all that liquid is worrisome. Tne few days before surgery (Sept 17-19) at least won't be confined on a plane. -

am I the only one having trouble keeping the iPad ap healthy? I have had to reload every few days. Any suggestions?

OK, I admit to weighing 100 pounds more than I weighed as a blushing bride in 1968. The 100 pounds bothers me but not nearly as much as the copious number of pills I take every day along with 45 units of lantus. Am I being realistic in expecting the diabetes to resolve itself with losing the 100 pounds and adding a reasonable exercise program? Can anyone say that it has worked out that way for them?
