  1. I like to have a glass of 1% milk every night before bed. Oddly enough, before surgery I never really drank milk, but now I really crave it at the end of the day. My NUT is ok with it since she says it's a good way to get in a little extra Protein at night (I consistently hit 65-75 grams daily anyway), but since I just realized it also has 13 carbs and 13 grams of sugar I'm wondering if maybe I'm sabotaging myself? Had surgery 04/24 and am down 37lbs!
  2. Driving; I was told 1 week and must be off any pain meds Swimming: 2 weeks Lifting: My surgeon said anything under 20 lbs was fine (I was cleared to pick up my 22lb 1 year old), but not do anything strenuous. Anything over 20 lbs, 4 weeks. All surgeons are different and I've heard many different answers to these questions!

    Restaurant Card

Kids' menus are HORRIBLE!! I never order for my toddler from the kids' menu, I just share my plate with her. Even places that have "healthier" options Ike yogurt, the yogurt is full of sugar. So sad!
  4. I was sleeved yesterday morning 04/23/2012 and I haven't even left the hospital yet but I'm already thrilled the I had this done. I was so nervous about the actual surgery that I never really let myself get too excited about the life changing possibilities it would have for me until now. It just hit me starting yesterday when I got to my hospital room that now I'm on the other side and will actually be one of those of you on the loser's bench!
  5. I had the world's worst pregnancy, with complications that were not directly linked to being overweight (severe nausea for 8 months, a rare inflamed iris condition that made it feel like I had a migraine every day, completely subsided once I gave birth), and several complications that I believe were directly a result of being overweight (gestational diabetes, high blood pressure which led to being on bed rest in the hospital for 1.5 months, and Pre-eclampsia resulting in an emergency c-section at 34 weeks pregnant). This was all after attempting to conceive for 2 years and having had one previous miscarriage due to PCOS. The gestational diabetes was a real wake-up call. That was not fun, testing myself 5 times a day, etc. I did not want to be doomed to a life as a diabetic. I also want to be around for a long time for my daughter. My husband and I want to grow our family, but that is NOT an option for me if I stay this same weight. I am blessed enough to have a husband who loves me and finds me attractive at any weight. But he is tall and lean and has never had trouble with his weight and I am tired of looking like I ate his dinner.
  6. I'm very ready to do this, having researched it for months and talked it through with my husband. I'm more sure about this than anything I've ever done (besides marrying the Mr.). However, lately I've started to get so anxious about the surgery my anxiety has started to manifest itself in some irrational fears. What if I'm in the percentage of people for whom this surgery just doesn't work? and What if somehow I'm pregnant and because of that they won't do the surgery? Seriously I've worked myself up so much that my period is 10 days late. I've taken 3 pregnancy tests (all negative, of course) but my mind won't give in and let me relax. I guess I've just never succeeded in anything else I've ever tried so my subconscious is asking - why do I think this will work? Was anyone else this way? Reading these boards has been so helpful to me. Seeing the progress of others has made it much easier to make this decision and be confident about it. Why am I having so much fear of failing?

Anyone Not Have A Pre-Op Diet?

My surgery is next Monday (04/23) and I have yet to be prescribed any kind of liquid diet. I think it just depends on your surgeon.

    25 Lbs Down And Nsv's

Hey there, glad to hear it! I am using the same surgeon. How was your experience post-op?
  9. After much deliberation, I have set a date to have the VSG. Since my insurance does not cover it (cosmetic?! Really?!) I will be self-pay, so thankfully I do not have to jump quite as many hurdles as many of you have. I am alternating between What have I gotten myself into? and I want to get it done tomorrow! I'm already grateful to all of you for sharing your stories, as it is what greatly influenced my decision to go forward with the procedure. At the seminar and through talking to my surgeon and nurses, I have not heard any mention of a 2-week liquid diet of any sort. My surgery date is 04/23/2012 so I feel like they would have mentioned it to me by now, right? Does everyone have to do that for Pre-op?
  10. Hi all, I have just decided to pursue a vertical sleeve surgery. I have an appointment for a consultation next week and in the mean time discovered this board. I have a very active 1-year-old little girl, who is one of the main reasons I have decided to do this for myself. I'm wondering if anyone has any advice for what my expectations can be for after surgery. Will I be able to pick her up (to hold her, put her in her car seat, etc.)? She is 22 lbs and growing. She has her father's metabolism, thank God. My husband will be able to help out as much as he can at night, but he will not be able to take vacation time while I'm healing. Just wondering if anyone has any advice or has had experience having the surgery while caring for a toddler. Thanks in advance!
