welcome Diane...I havent been here too long but these ladies are GREAT!!!!!!!!!!
  2. I was wondering if all of you that are having PS have had it covered by your insurance or are you self pay? I have not been banded yet so I know I have a LONG way to go before I even think about PS but I was wondering how many people have insurance that will cover this.

    Nutritionist

Hey everyone!! I have my nutritionist consult tomorrow and I was just wondering what will be done? I am not going to the nutritionist that the surgeon recommended because of cost so I found another one - I explained what this was for and she seemed to know what I was talking about - and I just want to be sure I get what I am supposed too. I dont want to go through all this and then when I get to the surgeon consult he tells me that I dont have the correct info. So what should I make sure is done?? any advice??? :help: THANKS!!!!

Irrational Fears (phobias and the like)

I am semi paranoid of getting in a car accident - I blame this on a few accidents that I was involved in and I saw that accident coming. If I see a car behind me when I am stopped my heart starts to race because I was hit from behind while stopped at a red light and I saw that the car was not going to stop but I couldnt move because there was a car in front of me. I also get scared when I see a car coming out of a side street and not looking like it is going to stop. I also have the usual fears of bugs - all kinds - disappointing my family, drowning - i cant even watch a movie when people are underwater - and all that good stuff.

kago I am not self pay but I know I have read on some other threads about FillCenters and from what I see that have locations throughout the country. You can try calling another surgeon and see if they will fill you even though they did not perform the surgery. I was considering Dr. Nusbaum but he was not in my insurance so I research and found another doctor. A few doctors that I know do lap band in the area are: Dr Bertha, Dr. Abkin, Dr. Ballantyne and Dr. Capella. If cant hurt to call there offices and see if they can do your fills.

My biggest worry is that when I go for my surgeon consult he will tell me I still need to do x, y and z for the insurance to cover me!!!!!

    Nutritionist

I will definitely get in writing whatever I can from the nutritionist. I am just worried that when I go for the consult at the surgeon he will have another list of things that I have to do and I have worked hard to get them all done before hand so that I can get the surgery before the year end

    Nutritionist

thanks mindy!!! I spoke with the doctors office and they were ok with me looking for someone else because the person they have doesnt take insurance - I cant afford the cost out of pocket - as long as the nutritionist deals with bariatric patients is what they told me.

    Denied

hi itsme I also have Horizon BC/BS of NJ and I went to my first info seminar the beginning of the year and thats when I found out that most insurances require the 6 month doctor supervised dieting. I was upset that I had to wait 6 more months but I took this time to find a new doctor - my old one never weighed me in the 15 years that I had been seeing him - and get the ball rolling on the surgery. I can say the 6 months did go pretty fast and before I knew it it was over. During the 6 months I did go to my doctor once a month and we tried a few different things and of course nothing worked!!! I also went to another seminar just to get a feel for a few different surgeons - I am putting my life in this persons hands so I want to make sure that I am making the right decision on the surgeon I pick. My PCP also set me up with the phych consult and some other testing that alot of the insurances require. Yeah I was bummed that I had to wait the 6 months but for me I feel like it gave me more time to make the best decision and to get some stuff that is required out of the way. I have my consult with the surgeon I selected on Oct 17th and I am hoping that I have everything required at that time so that I dont have to wait any longer. good luck on your journey and definitely get the 6 months started even though your insurance is changing many insurances require the 6 months so it cant hurt to start now!!

well my review went very good. I meet with my director and the COO and they had nothing bad to say not even constructive critisism. they said they have heard only good things about what I have been doing and that I am always willing to help out wherever needed - which is true and I dont mind. I am very happy with my job - not many people here are but thats what happens when you work in a small company that is growing everyday and you have to wear many different hats. well as far as the raise the COO stated he will speak with the CFO early next week when he is back in the office and then he will present it to me to make sure I am happy with it. so even though I dont know what I will get at least I know there will be something coming!! WOOHOO!!!!!!! kat - hope all is well with your test results and I am giggling thinking about all the "legs" hanging in the barn

thanks for the words ladies!! I asked my mom and she is going to help as much as she can and I am still getting up the nerve to ask my dad - hopefully if I find a nutritionist that is covered by my insurance I want have to ask him. As far as selling stuff on ebay, I am a very simple person and I dont spend on DVD and CD because I dont have the money to do so. I had a yard sale a few months ago and basically sold all my dust collectors then. On a good note I have a meeting for a job and pay review in about 15 minutes so hopefully that will put me back on the upswing of things!!

    NJ October Thread

hello everyone!! hope everyone is doing well and my prays are with those of you who are going through some struggles. I have a rant and will start by saying when it rains it pours!!!!!! A few weeks ago I put in a request at my job to see if i can get 3 weeks of vacation in july 08 for a much needed vacation while i was waiting and waiting I took money out of my savings so that when I got an answer I could go straight to the travel agent to book the trip. Well I finally got and answer the end of last week and YAY it was the one that I wanted - I was approved so now I just have to wait 9 months to be carefree for 3 weeks in the dominican republic - if you have never been you must visit!!! now the bad news - I had pain in my ear and face for a few days so I went to my PCP and he ruled out and ear infection so then I went to my dentist and he saw something that it could be but said I definitely need to have my wisdom teeth taken out. so I made an appointment with the referred oral surgeon and when I get there I have to pay $250 for the consult and x-ray (thank goodness it was payday) now the surgeon does not take my insurance but I do have out of network benefits but this means I have to pay everything up front so...the xray shows I need all 4 widsom taken out plus 2 others for a total of $2900!!!!! yeah I just about cried in his office. so I had to make the decision to only have the 2 teeth that need to come out first done and that is still almost $1000. I dont want to try and find another oral surgeon because picking a name out of a book is not always the best thing to do. ok I can survive that but then I need to make the consult for the nutritionist so that when I have my consult with the lapband surgeon I will have everything together and the nutritionist they put me in contact with will be $375 again they dont take insurance but I can submit it and yada yada ya so that another $375 to pay up front. I have been trying to find another nutritionist that take insurance and deals with bariatric surgery patients and so far no such luck so I am keeping my original appointment just in case I can find anyone else. then I rememeber my car insurance is due and thats another $370. this is on top of all the usual monthly bills that i struggle to pay. and this is all due before the month of october is over! I am now almost regretting the vacation because I paid a deposit of $1200 to cover me and my friend that I am going with (she is teaching in Poland right now and I know she would do the same for me so I am not worried about getting the money from her) but I deserve this vacation. I work a full time and a part time job and this is something that I have been wanting to do for a long time. I just hate that all of this other stuff is now coming up after I booked the vacation. My mom is going to try and help but I am afraid to ask my dad because I dont want to hear anything about "well you shouldnt have booked a vacation if you didnt have the money". I DID have the money and now things have all gone to hell. I will make it work because what other choice is there. sorry for my rant but i just had to get that off my chest. My problem is small compared to all of you wonderful ladies but its my problem none the less. thanks for listening

    Dr.Abkin/Dr.Bertha

cutiepie I will definitely post about my consult - I can't wait I am so excited to finally reach this point since I have been researching for over a year I never thought this would finally come. Both Dr.Bertha and Dr. Abkin were both very nice and helpful during the seminar. I also have a hard time geting time off of work because I work a full time and a part time job. I just pick wednesdays because I am normally off on wednesday nights and I was hoping to get a late appointment but they were all taken. So I just said with wednesday and made the appointment for my lunch hour since the office is not to far from my job and they said the consult appointment is about 45 minutes. That was really the only reason I choose to make my consult with Dr. Bertha and not Dr. Abkin. Good luck on your journey and if you have any questions I am sure you can find answers on this board. I am not banded and I am certainly not an expert but I will be glad to answer any questions you have.

    How long for insurance approval?

I was told the insurance company MUST respond within 30. I am hoping that is true because I hope to have all my paper work submitted soon and get and answer quickly

    Poland/Europe

My best friend is now living in Poland and before she moved we were both researching having lap band surgery. well I am still on my way but she has stopped because of the move and getting a job and all of the good "life" stuff. Since I have been talking with her everyday about what I am doing she is starting to really think about it again. So I have been trying to search on the internet for any info on lap band surgeons in Poland and I have had a hard time finding anything. Does anyone know of any international websites that help find info in Poland - Warsaw - or in Europe? Any info that is given would be greatly appreciated...THANKS!!! :help:

    Would you or wouldn't you...

I was also debating about doing it the end of this year or the beginning of next year but not because of the holiday reasons - I am debating on when to go on vacation and I dont want the surgery to conflict with going away - anywho i finally made the my mind up that as long as i am approved i will have the surgery as soon as I can. I want to get it done and be on my way to the new me as soon as possible and also for me my insurance deductible starts over the beginning of the year so I would rather do it before then.
