hi mike Im in NJ and was just banded on 11/6. My healing process has been going great as far as I am concerned! I am on my last week of mushie foods and then I can move on to solids. I have not had any problems eating but I do keep my portions small and everything is mushie so I am a little worried about PBing when I start on solid foods. I know everyone says what you can eat is different with each person so its hard to say what you can eat. So far I have been eatin tuna fish, mashed potatoes and veggie Soup for my mushies and occasionaly cheese fries - not the best choice but they are mushie and the cheese is good for Protein :-) There isnt much info that I can provide because like i said I am just almost a month out so I too have a lot to learn. but I think if you take it slow and remember that the band is there to help you then everything will turn out fine.
-
hmmm i have never heard of Aldi but i will check online to see where they are located. I only have a few more days left on mushies and then i am on to solid food YAY!!! i dont go back to the doctor until just before christmas and then i guess we will talk about a fill and i am soooo scared of that!
-
I have been eating either tuna that I smash til it is very fine or mashed potatoes and a scrambled egg here and there and have had no problems...so far. I am also doing a protein drink as well
-
thanks for the advise mandy!! I was thinking of doing mashed potatoes (I can heat them up before I leave job number 1) or tuna fish - something already mushie. I get out of my first job at 5 and start the second one at 6 and it takes about 50 minutes to get there so I never have time to eat anything before I start work :-( I will figure something out so that I am not starving by the time I get home and try to stuff myself
-
thanks for the encouragment diane!!! my belly only really starts to growl when it knows lunch or dinner time is coming up! I started my full time job yesterday so I am getting myself back on schedule and I need to figure something out when I start my part time job on thursday. when I work at night I would always eat when I got home from work and I dont want to do that anymore so I am going to have to take and extra meal with me to eat in the car on the way there. I am afraid to weigh myself since i started eating mushie food because I think the number went up and I need to get my booty on the treadmill and do some exercise!!! have a great night all!!!

Hey everyone!!! I just realized that i have not been on since Friday and I have missed everyone!! hope everyone had a great turkey day and happy belated birthday to cindy!!!!!!!! I am on my second week of mushie food and next week I can move on to solids YAY!!!!!!! I have been eating lots of tuna and mashed potatoes and when i want a treat i get some fries with cheese on them -in my mind they are mushie and the cheese is good for Protein so not the best choice but it could be worse :-) I am keeping my portions small with everything I eat and I have not been snacking just eating my 3 "meals" a day!!
-
woohoo I have my 2 week post op appointment with the doctor tmrw and I cant I am hoping he tells me that I can move on to the next stage of the post op diet. this liquid crap is for the birds!!! I have been really good but I am just wanting to chew something!! And I am really nervous to see how much I really weigh!! YIKES!!!!!!

Hugs for Kat so glad you are home and on the mend. Wishing you a speedy recovery!!

YAY Kat - I am glad to hear everything went well.

hey mandy thanks for the encouragement I already have it in my mind that I will gain some weight back when I start eating things that I can actually chew. I dont want to be blind and then freak out when it happens. My meals basically consist of yougurt, jello and broth. I am trying to get at least 1 protein shake in a day and then work my way up. does anyone think drinking a slimfast low carb shake would be an ok protein shake to drink? I was drinking them before I got banded and I know what they taste like so I would stick with that if I can.

hey everyone sorry i was MIA for awhile...just felt a little blah and typing was not high on my list of things i wanted to do recovery is going good. I feel myself getting better everyday which is GREAT. the nauseous feeling went a way after a day or 2 i think it may have been the pain meds and the not eating that was throwing me off. im getting my liquids in but i am worried that i am not getting enough "food" im on the full liquid stage and I try to get in some everyday but just the thought of food makes me sick to my stomach - why couldnt that happen BEFORE surgery???? I weighed myself last night and I swear the scale lies - my neighbor who owns the scales says that it is dead on - it said i weigh 257.5. now that would be 20 pounds!!! ok now you see why i swear it lies. i think that 20 is not possible maybe 8 or so. well i will find out next week when i go to the doctor until then i will continue to push to get all my nourishment in and hope i am doing things right. i hope everyone is doing great with all the new jobs, men and other goodies!!!
-

I just wanted to post my experience so far...I attened a seminar on Wednesday night for Dr. Abkin and Dr. Bertha and let me tell you I was impressed. First off it was held at a local hotel meeting room so there was space for about 100 or so attendees. Now most of the seminar was a repeat for me as I have in the past year been to 2 other info seminars and I have been researching lap band for over a year but none the less I was impressed. Marco the OR nurse the first spoke was very informative and answered all questions. They also had 2 guest speakers that have already had surgery and while I was disappointed that neither had the lap band they were also very informative for those people looking to do gastric bypass. The next person to speak was Josephine who is the insurance whiz. She answered a bunch of questions and gave lots of info regarding which insurances require what and all that good info. And then finally the doctors came up to speak. Dr. Abkin, Dr. Bertha as well as Dr. Garrison are very informative and open to all question and after the "formal" part of the seminar was over they stayed an answered individual questions if you had any. And THEN when you walked out of the main room there were tables set up so you can go ahead and make your consult appointment with one of the surgeons and also make appointments for a nutisionist and a psychiatrist (sp?). You also walk out with the paper work to get your lab work done and a form for your PCP to fill out. They basically have everything right there for you and I couldn't ask for anything more!!!! Everyone involved was more then helpful and willing to answer any question that you may have!! The previous 2 seminars I attended was held in the doctor's waiting room and you were basically sitting on the person next to you as the doctor just stood in front speaking about all the general info. They would tell you what was required as for as other test but I feel you were left to your own to sort it all out. Now I know we are all adults and should be able to handle making out own appointments but with something like this some people dont know where to start. Even though the previous 2 seminars were smaller groups I didnt feel a connection with the doctors I felt more as if I was just another #. That is the main reason why I was looking for another doctor and I am glad I came across Dr. Bertha and Dr. Abkin with a little help for the LBT group - THANKS!!! I have my consult on 10/17 with Dr. Bertha and I can't wait!!!!! I just wanted to share my experience with everyone and maybe help fellow NJ folks with finding a doctor!! :clap2:

hi Linzer I had my surgery yesterday with Dr Bertha and im doing good. everything went great. Im a little sore but not but real pain which is GREAT!!! trying to get in all my liquids so I just keep a bottle of Water with me everywhere I go throughout the house. good luck on your journey and dont let anyone talk you into something that you are not comfortable with. I went in knowing I wanted lap band and no one tried to change my mind. its your body and you can lose the weight if you put your mind to it.
-
im home im home im home!!!!!! everything went well. I was there a little longer then expected because I was feeling queasy when moving from the bed to the recliner and the nurse gave me something to help and along with the percocet I was ready for a nap. so i took a long nap and came home when i was all better!! thanks for the wishes!!!!!!!! i am retiring to my couch now

welcome to the NJ thread Katie!! I am also from NJ but im up north in essex county. I had to call the hospital to confirm my time for tmrw - gotta be there at 630 fpr 745 surgery - and the women I spoke with said to wear white cotton panties and if they make me remove them they will do something. I got over that part of my worry pretty quick by telling myself they have dealt with worse!!! I am still super nervous and I am sure I wont sleep much tonight. I not so much nervous about the surgery itself as I am the after. I know I will come through just fine but ahhhh stupid nerves!!! Bandland here I come!!! see you all in Bandland tmrw morning save some yummy goodies for me!! I only had to do liquids today and I am going bananas!!! I dont know how those of you who had to do a pre op diet did it!! I guess it shows you what you will be doing post op but damn it I want to chew something!!
