Am I Going To Be Up All Night? Later Evening Surgery.
julieulie replied to kansasgirl's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
My surgery was at 8:00 am. I woke up really nauseous around 11:45am. Found my pain button, ignored everyone around me, and closed my eyes for a couple hours. That was pretty much the longest time I slept. After that someone was coming in every couple hours to do something to me, and during the night they got me up every four hours like clockwork for vitals, a walk, bathroom visit, and a fun suppository (helped with nausea though). You probably won't get a lot of actual sleep during your time in the hospital, but the morphine button kinda makes you not care. -
I was sleeved on April 4th. All that is left now are red lines which I am hoping will fade. Scabs went away a couple weeks after surgery. I had six incisions and the big one was definitely funny looking. It's still a little wavy compared to the others but when I first had it, there was even a dent in the stomach above it as if it was caving in a little. When they were closing up, they turned itchy. But be very careful to never scratch the incisions themselves! (Obvious I know but a reminder is always helpful if they are really itchy.) Lightly scratching the area around the incisions helped with the itching.

Drain Removal- How Painful Really?
julieulie replied to CHELL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only thing where I felt even a little discomfort was where a blood clot had formed around the stitch holding the tube in place and the nurse had to kind of break the stitch away. I could hardly even feel the drain moving inside on its way out. I just felt a little moving sensation and then it was out. The drain tube is quite long though. My nurse said that he's always wanted to have one done because he says everyone tells him that it doesn't hurt, it just feels weird. So no worries! -
Sleeping On Your Back
julieulie replied to sleepysleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Sleepy, I sure wish I had a more encouraging response for you. I was sleeved on the 4th and am still struggling with being able to sleep on my side for any length of time. I have always had a hard time sleeping on my back but that seems to be the best position until I am fully healed. I can lay on my side for short periods but I always start hurting and then when I do shift onto my back---Ouch! It feels as if all of my insides are shifting and pulling each other and I get sharp pains right in the upper middle of my stomach that can last a couple hours and is bad enough to make me cry. (I am not a cryer.) Even when I stay on my back for the whole night, I have these pains for at least the first hour. Then when I get up in the morning, there's pain again as if gravity is forcing all of my organs downwards, no matter how slowly I sit/stand up. Does anyone else have an issue like this? I was imagining all kinds of inner complications as I was crying at 3am. I can't wait to have a pain-free night! -
How Much Nausea Did You Have The First 2 Weeks?
julieulie replied to AngieG0410's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had surgery four days ago. I was very nauseous from the moment I woke up. I couldn't even turn my head without having to grip the bucket. It eased off maybe three hours later. Since then it has come and gone but nowhere near as bad as what I experienced right after the surgery. My times for being most nauseous seem to be the early hours of the morning for some reason; also, if I have too much of my shake at a time.
