Having one of 'those' days
LadyMaggie replied to backpacking5's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can relate to your post; I asked myself the same thing . . mostly because it took me 1 1/2 years to deal with some medical issues, and then insurance. I will say at this point (17 months out), I do not have any regrets. Good luck on your journey! -
Had first fill today and....
LadyMaggie replied to txsonicguy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I prefer the small fill amounts; when my surgeon has added larger amounts, I have almost always had reflux issues, etc. Good luck on your journey! -
Breakfast...Is it really necessary?
LadyMaggie replied to catfish87's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I agree that on some days breakfast is a good idea; if I have a protein shake, I will usually have enough protein for the start of the day. -
I understand it is one step forward; two steps backwards. I have now named my band "Tank" . . . . short for cantankerous!
-
I consider myself a "protein snob" because I could not tolerate most brands / flavors. I swear by the UNjury UNflavored. I like it because you can add it to about anything and it has a high protein content. I purchased the Bariatric Advantage (eeww!) and you had to use TWICE as much to get the SAME amount of protein that UNjury has . . . just my two cents

I understand your thoughts in your post 110%. I worked SO hard the first year --- joined Anytime Fitness, Yoga Classes, Pilates and Zumbas, etc. Yes, I lost weight and Yes, I feel better BUT the "tweaking" this band of has been an adventure. I thought I would be at or near goal at my one year date. That didn't happen so I have made a new goal for my second year anniversary date. Also, I am tired of family and friends asking me if I regret the band and why I haven't lost more weight. It is good to be able to rant about it and exchange your feelings. Hang in there

I am going to say ask your nutritionist. When I asked mine, she told me that there was a not a 1 cup because lettuce/salad was so much Water ... she considered it a slider (strange to me!) Not sure why this is so different.

Your post was directed to "Soccer" not sure if that is me or not ... (?) But, if you look at my signature / ticker, I have had TWELVE (12) adjustments to my band in in FIFTEEN (15 months). At my appoint in June, my surgeon would not let me schedule before August .. said I had to wait eight (8) weeks ---> my next appointment is tomorrow; so, we shall see

I did not have any issues with surgery or recovery. Trying to get the band adjusted has been frustrating. Just know that you will NOT wake up from surgery "thin" and the road to goal weight is different for everyone. I thought I would reach my goal in one year; maybe in two ??

possible for some (?)

after surgery what do you bring to work to keep full/satisfied?
LadyMaggie replied to backpacking5's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am usually eating on the "go" because I am a teacher For morning, I use the (fruit) Dole Shakers / smoothies and add unjury (UNflavored) I keep Greek Yogurt in my mini-fridge at school *usually has 12 or more grams of Protein) A LOT of cottage cheese (also good Protein source) -
Your story sounds like mine I was banded on April 6th, 2012. . . . it's frustrating ---> so many road blocks

Feeling a little down
LadyMaggie replied to ladyjordan's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I understand; we all have highs and lows with the band; it is NOT failure until you quit trying. . . you can do it! -
I understand what you are saying ~ 15 months out and still tweaking the band

pure protein shake drinks... yuck?
LadyMaggie replied to renewed_mind's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
After reading several posts about the same topic (Protein Powder), I have decided it is an acquired taste. What one person loves, another does not. For example, I could not tolerate Bariatric Advantage Protein Powder. I tried three different flavors and wasted a lot of money. The one I do like (and, again, others may not) is the UNflavored unjury. I add it to my morning O.J. or yogurt. For shakes, I use the Dole Shakers (fruit flavored) and add the UNjury protein. Keep experimenting and hopefully you will find one that works. I, myself, am a protein snob ---> so I completely understand your frustration -
If you could give 1 piece of Pre-op advice, what would it be?
LadyMaggie replied to girlgetsLB's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Be patient; you are not going to wake up from surgery "magically" skinny . . . . even if that's what your family/friends think Be patient with your band -
NO, it does NOT hurt and I have serious NEEDLE phobia; my weekly allergy shot hurts much worse than a fill and I have had a BUNCH
-
Thanks for the words of encouragement . . . I have been on a 15 month journey ---> starting to question my sanity
-
I stumbled across this recipe recently on FaceBook. You should give it a try 3/4 cup Almond Milk 1 scoop UNflavored UNjury (=21 grams of Protein) about 15 ice cubes 1/2 tsp Vanilla 2 Tbsp unsweetened Cocoa powder 1/3 of a Banana [good Potassium source] Blend and Enjoy!!

How many of you have lost more than 45% of your excess weight?
LadyMaggie replied to Rebecca Cain Salpacka's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I believe I have lost 52% of my excess weight; At this rate, I will reach my goal by the 3rd year (?) -
I am still trying to find the "Green Zone" and get the right adjustment / fill. My surgery was about 15 MONTHS ago
-
I can relate to your post -- 110% !!
-
Agree that everyone is different; I needed two weeks before I was able to return to work. I am a teacher

Pounds versus Inches Question
LadyMaggie replied to Judy Robinette's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, this also happened to me. After my surgery, I lost weight at a steady rate and then the scale stayed the same. But, my clothes were loose. Good luck on your journey
