I don't understand why my surgeon said If I get approved then I have surgery in Jan?? Looks like most of you all get your surgery like a month or two after approval, weird. -
Lightweights in the house! Any more people with less to lose/less BMI's?
Mommie4 replied to MumtazG38's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey all! I am updating my status on here. I went to see my surgeon today and the 5yr weight history is probably going to get me denied. I am 5'6 and 252lbs currently but the insurance wants to see that I was over weight BMi over 35 for the last 5yrs. well my bmi was 33.9 for about 2 of those years. Surgeon said he has seen it go both ways, get denied by some and approved by some. So basically is sit and wait now. He said it could take about a month..ugh...I don't wanna wait a month and Im hoping I don't have to. I have UHC and I hope they get on it and over look my weight history!! lol -

Ya its a pain in the butt! I would have rather had the 6mo diet. I thought my BMI was over 35 for that long but like 2 yrs it was under. I just hope they give it to me!! I guess I can appeal it if not, but im tired of this already..lol -

YAY!!! congrats! If I get approved I can not have surgery till January!! But right now my 5yr weight history is probably going to keep me from having it, 2 of the yrs my BMI was under 35 so Im just praying now that the insurance over looks it or at least just goes ahead and approves me! -

Well, Dr. Eagon was very nice and I had to give him my 5yr weight history for the insurance and he said that what they want to see is a BMI of 35+ for last five years and 2 of my 5yrs my BMI was only 33.9. He said he has seen insurance companies deny you over just one year being under...Im worried and I don't have the best of luck so the odds are against me already. Im already down about it beause I have a feeling the insurance will deny me and Ill have to wait another year or so. We can appeal it and I will but I don't know how this is gonna turn out. He said that I may not hear back for about a month. And IF I get approved we will do surgery in January, I was hoping for a sooner date but now all I want is approval, I will deal with a January surgery! lol -

Oh cool!! I have Dr. Eagon. I saw him today and we are a little worried like I though about the 5yr weight history. My BMI has to be 35 or over for the last 5yrs and two of the years it was 33.9!! Basically all I can do is pray. Dr. eagon said hes seen some insurances completely look over that stuff and he has seen some deny you if even one year wasn't 35 or higher. But he did say it might take a month before I hear anything. And if Im approved we wont be doing surgery till January!!!! UGH oh well, right now im just hoping I get approved!! -

Congrats and good luck!! I guess they test for a chemical that's in cigs, not necessarily nicotine. I think its a blood test too. lol probably gonna do it today I really don't know. -

So excited! today is my appointment with the surgeon! I go in at 2:45, can not wait to hear what he has to say! I hope he has high hopes that I will be approved!! All my friends and family are very supportive. And they are all waiting to hear what the insurance says, just like I am! Still trying to quit smoking, haven't been real successful so far so I am going to see my doc. I am hoping my weight is where it needs to be today too! since I don't have comorbidities the nurse practitioner told me not to lose ANY weight, she said with my height that I am right on the boarder so I have actually tried to gain an few just to be safe, because my insurance wont approve me with a BMI under 40 and no comorbidities! ugh, its a long rough road but Im so glad that Im at the end of it!! I will keep you updated, for those who are interested. -

im worried because the patch is nicotine isn't it? The nurse said they will test me for it. Or do the patches not have the chemical that cigs do? I will try anything! I made an appointment with my doc, I was gonna try Chantix. But its probably costs a pretty penny! Thanks for the positive thoughts! I am def going to try something. I just hope I get approved for surgery, we go through enough crap to get approved and getting denied will very upsetting! -

I am so excited for this Tuesday! Its my appointment to meet with the surgeon! I can not wait! I still have to quit smoking but I made an appointment with my regular doc for help on that! I can not do it cold turkey, I tried! I really hope I get my surgery date and that he has already sent off my documents to united health care! -
okay, now i'm just angry - psych eval failure1
Mommie4 replied to vanishingirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was about 45mi total and I had to take the 550 question test on the computer my first appointment. We talked for maybe 15min then I took the test. I haven't heard anything back on it but I called the surgeons office and they let me set up my appointment with the surgeon so Im assuming I passed. They have their reasons for there evaluations on us, even though we don't understand why they made the choice they made I guess it for some sort of reason. Im sorry to hear that you failed and I wish you the best of luck and like someone else mentioned, I would see if a second opinion would matter or help!! -
It depends on the coverage that ur employer has. You should call United and just ask them. I have united through my husbands work and its covered. BMI of 40+ is covered with no comorbidities, BMI below 40 you have to have like two comorbidities. They require me to have a 5 yr obese weight history (BMI of 35+ for past 5yrs). They don't require a pre-op diet because of the weight history. Just call and find out from them what they require and if ur covered. every plan is different and every ones answers on here will be different...lol GOOD LUCK

Exciting! good luck! I don't seem to have as much to do as others for some reason, all I know is when I see surgeon the 17th, if he gives MORE appts to do Im gonna scream! I hope I just gotta see him, set up aurgery date and maybe do a liquid diet and be smoke free for 30 days and then get surgery if im approved. -

That's what Im worried about is trying to quit smoking...I do want to be skinny a lot more than I want to smoke! the thing is I am a student so I sit home all day until 5pm when I leave for school. I am a heavy smoker close to two packs a day an d now I gotta quit and beb smoke free for 30 days...might sound easy for the non-smokers "oh just quit, what do u want more" lol I thought about Chantix the patch scares me because it is nicotine and I am so scared it will show in a test, I even thought of the E-cigs but also nicotine! I just know doing it cold turkey will be even harder!! I just wanna scream, I never should have started this bad happen to begin with ugh! -

I had to do a seminar, then see surgeons nurse practitioner, had to see a psych once, NUT once, have a physical once, blood work and EKG, and now I am going to meet surgeon on the 17th and wait for insurance approval. do mind if I ask how u quit smoking??? that's what I have to work on, they said no nicotine for 30 days before surgery! Oh and one surgical weight loss support group. -

What do you have to come up with upfront? Why wont United cover it for you? Im scared they will deny me too!
