    Had No Idea

Gosh...I guess I am doing quite well. I was banded on the 26th and my abdominal pain has been the worse...especially when sleeping and sitting. I went to work yesterday and was tired but not really too sore. I am taking pain meds to help me sleep...but I don't think I'll need it much longer. Gas was really too much of a problem...on a side note my 3 year old son thought it was really funny when mommy passed gas!. The hardest part for me right now is deciphering if I am hungry or if my stomach is just gurggling because it wants to. I am so looking forward to getting to enjoy some more flavorful soup next week--broth is not that great. Good luck to everyone.

How Do You Deal With Your Family Eating?

I have encountered this this weekend. I was banded on Thursday, the 26th, and my wonderfully amazing friends brough dinner for my husband and son. My husband works 12 hour shifts so I helped him by heating the meals up...and although I love hotdogs...I just didn't want anything to do with them. I will admit that I did taste the "broth" of the chili my friend made to see if it was too spicy for my son--it was. Today I am fixing a favorite crock pot dinner for my husband...I guess I'll have to wait and see how I feel when I get home...so far I have been too tired to "covet" his food--I have been taking a walk around the block before he gets home. The past couple weeks I have made an effort to make the meals more healthy so that it woun't be such a shock once I'm able to partake. I am also terrified about getting "stuck" and don't want to risk that yet. Don't worry...before long you'll be able to enjoy meals with your family again.
  6. Hello everyone. I was offically banded on Thursday the 26th. I am just posting because I didn't have the patience to use my phone to actually write the post. I am 4 days post op and my belly is very bruised and the abdominal muscles are sure sore. I have also had alot of that wierd "twingy" feeling that comes from the herina repair. sleeping has been tricky since turning over has been painful...but I know that won't last forever. I have been sipping Protein drinks and Water but will occassionally feel extrememly dizzy...is this because I need to drink more protein? To be real honest, I am afraid to drink too much and get the horrid nausia that I had at the surgery center. I also had a good laugh...since i have been on the search for weight loss forever I have a scale in the bathroom and every morning I step on to see what it says. I stepped on it right before leaving for the surgery center and was at 252...when I got home I stood on it again and nearly cried when I saw that it said 262...Later, after catching my breath, I realized that of course it would be heavier...I mean the "shot" me full of air, meds, and water. I was very, very happy to see today that the scale is back to where it was when I left for surgery. Guess in my "loopy" mind I was hoping that I had already lost a bunch...but it's ok...i'll get there.
  7. Myshel65...I am getting excited to see the 10's decrease. (50, 40, 30, etc). I have always foudn that to be the best, but to be real honest...I am really excited to be able to read 199--which I haven't see in YEARS. Good luck to you on your new path!!!
  8. I had my surgery on Thursday the 26th and I am going back to work today (Monday the 30th). My abdominal muscles are sore and I am feeling the herina repair, but I need to attend 3 meetings today...fortunately I only have to sit in the meeting. I have brought my liquid pain reliever just in case. I am expecting to be tired and have allowed myself extra time to rest if necessary. Just be careful and take it easy!!!

    April Bandsters!

Mine is also tomorrow (the 26th) I have only taken 2 days off work...I am a teacher of the visually impaired and I have several ARD/IEP meetings that I legally have to attend. I will plan on sitting in the meetings and then not do much the rest of the day--depending on how I feel. The end of the year is awful for those of us in the special ed world...but I just didn't want to wait till school was out. I think it will be fine and I can always take the afternoon off if I need to.
  10. My surgery is on Thursday and since my husband has to go to work on Friday I will need to make my own "drinks". I have read many posts about post-op protein shakes...I've got a question. I mix my shakes myself and have been using 2 scoops in 1c water. I know that that will be too thick and and am wondering if 1 scoop in 1c water is thin enough or if I should start with maybe 1/2 scoop in a cup of water? or maybe 1/4 scoop in 1/2 cup of water since it seems like after a couple sips I will be full (which I am really looking forward to) and heaven forbid I waste a cup of the " most awesome drink ever invented."

    Information Overload

I like coming to this site and airing my questions...I know that I can probably ask my dr,..but they can be so vague and not really answer the questions. I also want to know other people's ups and downs so that I have a better understanding what to expect. Sure...sometimes I get tired of hearing other people's problems, but I would be lot more anxious/leery of the surgery if all i hear was how great it was.

    Woozy?

I was wondering about this as well...I am on the pre-op and I have felt the same way. Mine will go away when I eat/driink a protein shake. Could it your body telling you need some protein?
  13. My surgery is scheduled for Thursday and I as picked up my ashma script yesterday I realized that I need to ask a question from someone "in-the-know". I take a single Singular tablet every morning and I am wondering if that pill is small enough to safely go through the band or if I will need to crush it? I do plan on crushing it at first but I don't want to have to crush it forever if it is small enough to safely pass. Thanks so much for sharing your knowlege.
  14. I totally understand. I have told my family (mom, sister, brother), 2 friends, and one co-worker. I decided to tell the one co-worker because I know that she will be supportive...she will also help me if I need/want to get out of staff "foody" meeting/parties/etc. I just don't think anyone needs to know right now. I have told them that I am having surgery on Thrusday to fix a hiatal hernia (which I am having done) and that's it. I guess I figured I really don't want to be interviewed or watched everytime we're together at work. I guess at some point I may tell them, but for now...it's a secret. I have only told 2 friends because I knew that I really needed support from them on a daily basis. They also have kids close to my son's age and I also knew that they would be willing to keep him busy during the first couple days of post-op. I am a relatively private person and I guess that I just don't feel that this life changing surgery is anyone's business but mine--especially at the beginning. Maybe I'll change my mind in a few months but for now that's the way it is.
  15. That was what I was hoping. Did you crush yours the first couple weeks or did you just swallow it whole?

    Getting Started Is Hard

Angie...it gets better...I have been on my pre-op for almost 2 weeks...surgery is scheduled for Thursday. Weekends are so very rough because I have a 3 year old and a husband who has told me that he needs to eat At first it was very hard...but I just made a point to start my shakes later in the morning--about 9ish and then the other one about 1ish. I get home and eat about 5 and then I take a walk when my husband is eating his dinner. I had to keep telling myself that this will all be worth it in the end. Be strong and you'll get through. It's only a couple weeks...then you'll be onto the new you.
  17. This sounds amazing...where did you find it? My little guy might be more willing to eat this than the spaghetti squash that my husband and I like. Thanks so much for sharing.

    Freaking Out About Todays Appointment

I think being anxious is part of the process. My surgery is set for Thursday and I am also anxious. If I were you, I'd keep doing what your doing and maybe try to loose what you can...I can't help but think that it will help after the procedure is finished. Don't worry...you'll do great and he/she will be so happy with your progress.
  19. That is just plain mean...but then again I have gotten a couple snide comments/remarks here as well. Has anyone had the same problem when they went to an actal meeting and talked with the leader/staff? I'm wondering if it would be different in person
  20. no...oops I made a typo...I started on the 12th and have lost 13 pounds.

    Finally Under 200Lbs

Yea to you!!! I am looking forward to that day as well!!!
  22. I have been on my pre-op diet since the 19th (which will be 2 weeks before my surgery). I get to drink 2 protein shakes (yummy) and a small meal which included 4oz of lean meat (chicken, fish, beef--I eat vension), 1c veggies (no corn, carrots, potatoes, starchy veggies) and 1c. fruit (no bananas). The dinner is great...but I was starving for a few days...now it's better. Weekends are especially hard (I have a 3 year old and a husband who works 12 hour days and tells me he needs to eat.) I have lost 13 pounds and am getting excited..

    Anyone from Texas?

I'm in Katy (a suburb of Houston) and I get banded on Thursday (the 26). I am nervous, excited, anxious, and amazed that I am finally able to do this. Good luck to you!!!!
  24. Hello. I started the pre-op diet yesterday--2 protien shakes, a small meal, and LOTS of water. I hate to say it but I am STARVING. I was told if I was hungry I could eat sugar free popscicles or sugar free jello...that did nothing as it is just fancy, flavored water. My surgery is scheduled for April 26, and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to help with the hunger. Today I am going to alter the time I drink the shakes to see if that makes a difference.
  25. I've got a question that i wanted to ask before I forgot. My surgery is next thurs (the 26th) and I know that I'll be nervous/anxious and will forget to ask the dr. I know that I can turn to y'all and get the answer. I have read that after surgery I should have liquid tylenol--great--I a 3 year old so we have plenty of that. My questions are: How about liquid Ibuprofen--is that ok? What is the doseage for an adult? I looked on the package and it only went up to a 94 pound child. I am far from 94 pounds--yet I don't want to not take enought? Thanks everyone. As it gets closer I may have a few more of these questions that I want to ask before I forget.
