    Hiccups

Just had band to bypass on Wednesday Still in the hospital until Monday. Apparently I lost some blood And the dr had a tuff time with my stomach I had the hiccups earlier on Thursday and they gave me something. Now I have been sitting here for almost 2 hrs and they state they r checking. My guts hurt so flipping bad
  2. Since my body doesn't like the band I will be having it out then converting to bypass But I had to take the psych test again and meet with the psych Did that and the psych wants to meet a few more times as I apparently have a high self esteem. I think his is a waste of time. But will play the game
  3. I also have to keep a food journal again. I am not a very good book keeper
  4. I also have to meet with the dietician which is understandable. But there is nothing wrong mentally with me as it is the band just does not work with my body
  5. My surgeon said if you have reflux issues the sleeve is not a good choice it will not take care of the issue My insurance approved my band to bypass but they advised me that it was like starting over as my band was placed 6 yrs ago also some insurance plans do not cover the sleeve as there is not enough data to show success as some sleeves end with the bypass
  6. I have my band for about 6 yrs. I had an ulcer about 2 wks after surgery and took protonix for about a yr after. Then insurance changed and then had to take Prilosec once a day then acid got worse the PA advised to take 2 a day. The insurance and pharmacist questioned it but that is what the PA advised. Still got the reflux. He deflated my band and did the barium X-ray and GI. The dr that did the GI stated that the band seems to be making my stomach mad. Went back to the PA he started to full the band again and will then fill again well the reflux is still there but not yet as bad. It is not what I have been eating or that the band is tight I think that it is the band. I go in on Friday to talk with the PA again. I am think of removal and going with the bypass I read that with the by pass this will (may) take care of the reflux

    What To Do

Here is my issue I was having a lot of reflux and taking the Prilosec (generic) twice a day still had the reflux. They took out all the fluid Had the wonderful barium swallow and the went in for the scope. After the scope the dr said he did not see any issues from the reflux. He just said the band is pissing my stomach off and probably should have it out Come to see me in 3 weeks. Well I saw the PA ( he is the one that we see for fills and such). As I had an appointment scheduled with him for follow up after the tests Well the PA looked at the test results and said everything was fine and he put 3ml (whatever measurement) and we would work back up to were I was before deflation. Well that was a week a go I stopped taking the Prilosec to see what will happen and sure as heck I had reflux. Well it felt like the start of reflux. So I started taking the pills again. So basically I am frustrated. Sick I the reflux I have yet to make the appointment. With the dr that did the scope. (he was the same surgeon the place my band 5-6 yrs ago). So I am thinking that u will be calling him this week to schedule something. But don't want to piss of the PA that I see (they are in the same office) Even with the rapid fill that the PA did I still am hungry and have slight acid Think I am kind of done The most I have lost with the band is 50 lbs have kept it off.

    Question

Correct I don't know you and you don't know me I am glad that you are doung your research amd looking into to the pros you also need to look into the cons also You can research all you want and follow the rules to a T but complications can still happen. I have had my band for over 5 years and have gone through the ups and downs, fills and unfills following and not following the rules. Also went along time just giving up So it is kind of hard to have someone say you need To follow what the doctor says when they have not been there yet. I wish you luck in your journey and hope the band works for you if and when you ever or decide to get it

    Question

Also not sure why someone who is not banded would even advise anything about this

    Question

Hi I had all or most of the fluid out of my band last month but mine was due to reflux issues. I had a scope of my stomach and everything looked fine but the doc said the band is pissing my stomach off and should be removed. Haven't yet decided what to do But i think with the band being deflated I don't think it will slip. If any thing it may put the band back in the correct place if it slipped b4 the removal of fluid. But not 100%. I just know I wasn't hungry a lot at the start of the month and now I am hungry and could eat a lot but trying not to

    Insurance Issue ;-(

If ur insurance is through ur employer they may not have lap band coverage under the plan If it is individual insurance (u pay all premiums) then it would depend on the plan u choose if it is covered and any waiting periods check with the broker or the ins company

Lb Surgery 5 Years Ago Or More???

It will be 6 yrs this December I will be having mine taken out sometime soon and possibly convert to bypass. My story maybe different the others but I have had complications from te start 3days after being placed was back in the hospital. Gas outlet syndrome ( basically all the gas they use was collecting in my stomach and felt like it was going to explode). Tube down the nose to suck it out. Found out that morphine makes me puke. 2 weeks later back in the hospital. Was dry heaving and puking found out had an ulcer. Feeding tube in the nose. I did loose the most wght (50 ibs) with the feeding tube Now I have had reflux for over 2 yrs and recently has gotten worse. The dr deflated the band as had a upper gi. Nothing bad showed up but the Dr said the band is pissing my stomach off so he recommends removal. Will talk to him in a week for options My wife asked me back when I got it put in if she should do it. I said sure we all have different issues She had hers done and no issues The wght loss has been up and down and up same for my wife. Over the years I gave up for a few months as I was frustrated Then got back to following the band. So has my wife The dr has pulled up several studies about the effectiveness of the band (you can pull them up with a google search). The most recent was out of Europe (they have been doing the band longer then the USA) I know some people on here will dispute the studies but they are not doctors and they love the band which is thier opinion So to answer ur question I guess of I would of known then what I know now I probably would not get it. Back then I thought the bypass would be tooo drastic with the cutting of the stomach but I sure there are bad experiences with every procedure

    Carbonated Drinks

I drink a can of diet mt dew almost every day. Only one. There is less carbonation in diet mt dew Also it was advised when I was banded 6yrs ago that if pills got stuck that u could drink some coke the carbonation pushes the pills through. Not the whole can

    Celery Is A No-No, But ......

Celery is fine. It is the oranges I have problems with. That is the big One that I have problems with. Carbonation is fine also. Just have to drink it slow. I have a can of diet mt dew as I don't drink coffee
  19. You state u have bcbs ia. It really dosent matter which state the bcbs cover is in. If the dr is participating with bcbs in their state they are par with every bcbs Employers buy coverage in the state thier company is based A employer can also choose not to cover the weight loss surgery also the bcbs. Oils have a clause that u have to see certain providers like the previous person stated a center of excellence to have coverage. This is how my coverage is if I do not see a center of excellence provider there is no coverage I would suggest that you personally call the insurance company and ask what the coverage is and what the deductible and max out of pocket that u would have to pay. Also u can ask if the dr ad hospital are in network I think of u go to the lap band site there is a list of questions to ask your insurance. I also got these questions when I went to a seminar for the lap band

    First Time Stuck Today!

I am 5 yrs and when I first got the band I would get stuck a lot. When I was banded I ended up with or i already had an ulcer that started. I would vomit and dry heave for about 10-15min about 4-5 times a day for about a week before going into the ER . this happened about 2 weeks after surgery well my band is fine but it was not a fun time but I did loose the most wgt while in the hospital with a feeding tube down my nose. (about 30 ilbs) I use to love to eat the big Bismarck doughnuts Well one time I was frustrated and wanted to try to eat one. Well it got stuck and the pain was horrible. You will learn what I can eat and what hurts and if u didnt chew the food enough or if u ate too fast Till this day when I walk past the bakery section at the grocery store I get pains just looking at the doughnuts Just because u may have eaten 1 or 2 bites of the bad stuff doesn't mean u failed. Just stop and put it down and walk away

    Silly Question???

I am 5 yrs My stomach will growl every now and then. When I forget to eat i get the shacks and have to eat Not to be gross but some people who are banded do not burp i dont have that probelm i burp all the time my wife will sometimes have a burp slip right out of the blue. My wife has alot of gas - usually at night. U will hear weird sounds from the stomach. When I drink Water I can hear it gargle through the stomach

  24. Hello I am new to this site found by google as I was thinking I was having issues with the band I had the band for 5.5 yrs. I have lost about 70 ibs not much for 5 yrs. most was lost the first few weeks of placement. I had some issues 4 days after surg I ended up in the hospital due to gas outlet syndrome- all the gas from Surg was going to my stomach it was one of the 2ost painful things I experienced. Well they stuck a tube down my nose and sucked out the gas. 3 days in the hospital. Found out I had issues with morphine it is not a good pain med for me I then started having pains in my stomach. And dry heaving for about 20 min and the. Was fine for about a few hrs. Did this for about 3 days. Couldnt take it anymore and went to the er Did tests an upper gi - woke up with a feeding tube down my nose and went to ICU for a nught well they found an ulser about the size of a silver dollar. A week in the hospital lost alot of weight there Well now 5 yrs later i did find the green zone but was not fillowing the ban rules drinking wheneating and was about a yr and half since i say the dr and i was thinking of revision to bypass. Talked with the dr and he told me to think it over and give the band about 6 mths to see if a revision is needed He did state that the were not doing the band that much any more due to studies and people were revising to the bypass So I have to think abou this
