However, I do say I had my band for approximately 5-6 years before the port and tubing broke. They really need to fix yours for free-- you went through SURGERY to have this done.. your body went through trauma.. it is too soon for it to be broken. Its nice like a tire with a nail on it. I would write a letter to everyone I could........

Hey there- the exactly damned thing happened to me. I went through the trouble (which wasn't much thanks to insurance) to fix the port. Had to have a band revision -- it kicked started my weightloss because I gained 30 pounds in the last 2 years

Filling Band After Six Years
adiye replied to says_simon's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey there, I have a similar story -- I was banded in 2006 and it helped me to the point where I was not really using it anymore (the restriction was "ok" but easy to eat through and I only had 1 fill) --- recently I lost all restriction and discovered a malfunctional tubing.. I had the tubing replaced 3 days ago and its like I have a brand new band... but I too, hav forgotten the rules.. and have noticed there really isn't much restriction at all are your pills crushable or available in liquid form? since you only take one med, that would be an easy fix -
Atleast you are trying! Give yourself a pat on the back... some people just rely completely on the band to make them through up... I am at work currently and just ate a poptart and a hershey bar... to be fair i spent two days on liquids, but still! On to the gym we go! I enjoyed your post

no they would have given you i.v. fluids if you couldn't drink you would have been dehydrated... which would be evident in your blood pressure, temperature etc. do you think you are exaggerating? Go get evaluated -- this is nuts

I recently got out of an outpatient surgery by Dr. Duckett from Northwest Ohio Surgery Specialists to repair my lapband. I was originally banded on September 2006. Over time; I lost quite a bit of weight- but during the last year; I noticed a sudden to gradual loss of restriction in my band. I found Dr. Duckett of Maumee and made an appointment with him after noticing some weight gain. I told him that I felt that I had gradually lost the restriction in the device. He checked the device and discovered that I was correct under the scope. The band had leaked at the port location and throughout. I have two incisions currently. The first is where my port is located under the left breast- the second is through my belly button. After having the tool for six years; I am glad to get a fresh start and start the journey for a second time. I plan on using this to my convenience to lose weight before my first pregnancy and to lose the weight after I deliver

CONGRATS! btw-- the good thing about brachioplastys is that you can still keep walking while you're healing!

I am one of the bandsters from an earlier era (banded in Sept. 2006) who recently got extremely dismayed when I went for a check up after noticing a sudden reduction in restriction (The first Check up on the band since six-months Post-Op) and discovered a large hole in the mechanism where the port and the tubing attach. I have to say that I am absolutely positively SHOCKED -- to have watched as the Fluid just leaked right out into my body when the Doctor attempted to retract fluid and refill. Initially, I was absolutely FURIOUS... but then relieved at the explanation as to why I have been gaining and gaining. On April 25th, a doctor in Toledo, Ohio is scheduled to get me a replacement port. I am looking forward to it but absolutely frightened that I am no longer equipped to be successful with the band. Its time to revitilize my efforts. I am still kind of angry that I have not been able to eat without utilizing the band as a tool. I am scheduled to get a new port under MAC anesthesia Stats: Comorbidity: Severe Rheumatoid Arthritis (2 joint replacements) High Weight: 255 Low Weight (2010 after suffering from major depression disorder) 148 Current Weight: 180 and climbing :-\

wow what an interesting snack.. sounds like you're doing great! Good job and take it easy

I am sorry that happened to you -- that has got to be absolutely scary. However, everyone keep in mind that the nerves/tissues around the ESOPHAGUS are completely unrelated to the nerves and brain tissue and the likelihood of the BAND causing your heart to stop is about 0.1%- none.. it was probably the anesthesia or some sort of pre-existing condition find out and let us know

losing 25 pounds without a fill is great -- try not to sweat the six pounds after you get the fill you will be back on track once again

Lost One Pound In Two Months
adiye replied to Nikki Riviotta's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
wow, you're definitely in starvation mode. Start by increasing to 1500 calories and exercising for 30 minutes a day -
After I got under 200 pounds, I stopped caring much about my lapband. I have one fill and I was satisfied. .. At one point (after suffering from severe major depression and PTSD) I got down to 148 pounds and had a body I had never had.. When I recovered from MDD, I gained 20 pounds. Slowly, I noticed I had less and less friction when I ate. When the band was "effective" I had productive burps, and spit up every once and a while. Now, there is no productive burping at all.. I went in and saw a new doctor-- and explained how I felt? I went through a pre-approval process to get the band looked at underneath a special xray machine.. when he injected fluid-- it came right out.. right at the junction where the port and the tubing meet. I was right about losing friction slowly but surely! wow! --after another pre approval process; I am scheduled to get a new port and tube replacement. I am now 180 pounds and really hope I can lose some of this extra weight before my DH and I try to try for our first child. Thanks for listening
