Sleeved on Tuesday the 21st of May
nanaspez replied to Lorraine_2013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The most important thing is to keep hydrated. I had a hard time even drinking water, they only way I got my liquid in was eating ice chips and SF popsicles. I found at Walmart a liquid whey protein that I wish I would have had at the beginning. I now just split it up in 3 doses and everyday mix 1 dose with lots of water for 14grs of protein. The bottle is 42g of protein but now that I am 6 mos post op I try to get my protein through food. But I would mix this liquid with water and freeze it to make ice chips or your own popsicles this way you are still getting some protein in as well. Good luck and keep us posted -
Can I whine for just a minute? ;)
nanaspez replied to cinward2001's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're not the first or last person that needs to whine! We have all been there! It does get easier but I do understand as much as you "know" at that moment…dam it…. all bets are off! Have fun Wednesday riding your horse! That will help you out mentally -
Keep hydrated! I had to get mine at first through ice chips and popsicles. You can get a liquid Whey protein and mix with water, freeze and make ice chips, this way you get your protein and liquid in. Good luck and keep us posted

I use to get that at the beginning as well. Happened even when I was not eating or drinking as well. I also use Biotene due to Sjogren's Syndrome, but it did help with the foam and slimy saliva. It will get better. Good luck and keep us posted!

Jane, So sorry to hear you about your rough time. When it rains, it pours! I think you did a incredible job of not gaining more! Don't be so hard on yourself!

Ice chips and popsicles were my life savors, since I couldn't tolerating drinking anything! I got a liquid protein from Walmart that contains 42g protein. It is thick so I divide it into 3 and mix 1/3 with water and freeze. This way you get your protein in as well as your liquid! Good luck….it does get better

I mix Unjury unflavored to my milk and then add my cereal and i can't taste it. With the Strawberry Sorbet from Unjury, that taste great with lemonade. The Chicken Broth from Unjury is also good I just drink it without adding anything else to it. Tasty and filling I just find I need to add a bit more water than they suggest. Just make sure the water temp doesn't go over 140, otherwise it is clumpy and yucky!

Almost at maintenance...and I'm super scared!
nanaspez replied to Sweetcarol238's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
We are in the same boat!!! I too am in maintenance, actually I would love to gain about 15 pds! It is so hard for me to eat 1000 calories a day, I average 800. I TRY to put something in my mouth every 2 hours, almonds, cashews, beef Jerky ect. But sometimes I just plain forget to eat! I also get lightheaded and dizzy, not enough calories and then I try to exercise not a good combo! I just had my 6 mo blood work done and all was well. So I know my lightheadedness comes from lack of food. Good luck -
I eat Special K protein daily only 7g of sugar. I put 1/2 scoop of unflavored protein in my milk also. The cereal is 10 grams of protein, 1/2 scoop of protein is another 10 grams and then the protein in your milk. I am able to mix 3/4 cup cereal with 1 cup milk and am able to eat it Keeps me regular as well. I'm 6mos post op at 7 weeks I might have been able to eat 1/2 of this. Good luck!

Help! 10 days post-op sick all the time!
nanaspez replied to Djstola's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry you're having a hard time…no fun Are you eating lots of dairy? Sometimes after the surgery you can become lactose intolerant, I know this first hand because it happened to me. Check the ingredients of your protein shake and see if it contains milk. Sweating I had really bad, 6 mos post op and I still sometimes get flushed but not like the beginning. It would be cold and rainy and I would have to go outside with little on because I was sweating so bad. So I can sympathize, believe me everyday gets better. It just takes some of us a little longer. Keep up on your liquids is #1. I did lots of ice chips because even water made me vomit. I purchased a liquid whey protein from Walmart, I take 1 oz and blend it with water and freeze it and make ice chips. It is a little over 3 oz tube and 1 oz is 14 grams of protein! I just had a hard time with chocolate and vanilla shakes, they felt "heavy" no matter how watery I would make them. I also ordered lactose free shakes from injury. The Strawberry Sorbet is really good. You should also notify your doctor of your symptoms. Good luck and keep us posted -
Anyone not struggled with weight their whole life?
nanaspez replied to nervousnellie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was always thin. I had a 9 lb baby gained 40 lbs and the next day zipped up my size 4/5 like nothing! I did not start to gain weight until I developed several medical problems. Due to all the medical problems I ended up taking 27 pills a day (all prescribed) and started to gain weight. Since 1997 I went from size 8 to 14 in 16 years. I am 6 mos post op and now wearing a loose 6! I did this surgery to get me off all my meds. I was taking prednisone daily for 16 years and I needed to take control of my body. After going to Stanford and speaking to doctors they assured me that my medication would drop and they have! Currently taking 7 but 3 will be dropped next month. Best thing I could have done for family and myself -
Good Luck and hope you have a safe and speedy recovery! Keep us posted

Unjury chicken broth, plain (I mix with milk for my cereal) you can not taste it, and the strawberry sorbet is great in water or lemonade. I had a hard time with my protein shakes (loved pre-op) no matter how watery they were they were still to heavy for my stomach. But, the Strawberry Sorbet isn't "heavy" for me. I wish I would have had these when I got out of the hospital, I would have made my protein intake for sure!
