African American Sleevers & Hair Loss
Almostthere34 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For those with relaxers. Does anyone have a plan for hair loss? I started taking biotin today but I need a plan. Does anyone have any tips? Weaves, wigs, pieces. Tell me what you did or recommend? -

I think you look amazing! Good luck on your medication adjustments. -
I weigh daily and I track food on myfitness pal. My weight fluctuates 1-3 lbs. I even weigh when my monthly is around. Those are the only times I ignore the fluctuations. As long as the scale is between 142-145 I am good. I am going on a cruise in November. I think I should bring my scale. I will have to log my food manually since Internet is not free on carnival. Wish me luck fellow vets. I am going to try to get a workout in most days.

You look fabulous! Congrats on your success. I am sure you are not being conceited, you were getting checked out. It so nice to feel good about where we are. -
People don't recognize me!

Omg the same thing happens to me. My work best friend walked past me three times. I had to tap her on the shoulder and poke her. It takes a while for folks to catch up with the new you especially when you loose over 100 lbs. I feel the same but you really are a new person. -

I am not perfect and I don't follow an all protein low carb diet. I get in my protein in and water most days but I do eat junk in moderation. Sometimes more than I should. I keep my calories low but I pretty much eat normally. I feel weird on this site sometimes because everyone is super-healthy. Example is today's consumption breakfast, muller Greek yogurt, snack honey nut Cheerios, lunch was salad w/chicken breast, oil and vinaigrette and a chocolate chip cookie, dinner tillapia and broccoli. Snack premier protein shake and if I want fruit before I go to bed and maybe some nuts. If I want some junk I'll have it. I just watch my calories and try to make mostly decent choices. Oh if I am really low on calories I 'll have graham crackers and peanut butter. Yum.

Once they see your results they listen and it will happen. It's almost like people start to see you for the first time or maybe you feel so good you start speaking up. Not sure what it is but it's like life is in color for me. -

Crossing your legs, having someone put their arms around my waist, shopping in the regular stores like H&M, running, wearing a small, not being recognized, giving fitness tips yes people actually listening to my advice, compliments, feeling good, and lots more. The best decision ever made. -

I definitely have a form of body dymorphia. I keep startling myself in mirrors at stores or catching my reflection in the mirror and being surprised its me. I also think sometimes I am fat. I am a size 4 but I see every flaw. In my workout clothes I see my extra skin on my stomach when I am dancing/Zumba or running. It's very weird. I just wonder when it will go away. I know I am small but I don't feel small. The other day someone asked how my legs were so big but I am so small. I know it was meant as a compliment. i think but it only reinforced the fact that I think I am skinny fat. Which just sent me to the gym to do more squats. I guess it's a good thing in that it helps me remember what could happen if I don't watch it.

Thanks for sharing. I know, I am not the only one who struggles with their food behavior demons. Bad habits die hard. I do the same thing but I count and log everything I eat. It doesn't change anything but if I have to I cut calories in other places to make up for the occasional mess up then I will and I do. A lifetime of habits will not be reversed in 14 months. At least that's how long it's been for me. The good thing is that now I recognize and try to limit binge behavior. My biggest challenge is popcorn. I went to see the Butler Friday and I ordered a child's popcorn. I ate almost the whole bag and I wasn't even hungry. It's all good cause I counted the popcorn in my calorie intake. It's ok to be human and indulge in moderation. If I indulge everyday and discounted nutrition all together than that would be a problem. I also stay away from self destructive behaviors that cause me to feel bad about mistakes. Try not to be too hard on yourself. For me the shame of making poor choices has to end. I just try harder to do better and make the right choices more often than not. Perfection is not for me, thankfully.

Reaching 100% excess weight loss?
Almostthere34 replied to LifetimeLoser's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I started out at 264 the first day in my surgeons office. I was 252 the day of surgery. I am 143 this morning. I would capitalize the time you have in the first year. This is something I read on this website because as you know the further out you get the slower the weight comes off. You have to take advantage and really work the program the first year and a half. I know you can get to your goal. If you have not started a workout plan I would do so. It helps and you feel good when you start noticing the changes. It also helps with the loose skin. Although my stomach is still not bikini ready after two kids its not bad. Good luck. -
