  1. I had surgery 3/27/12 and had my first fill 5/9/12. I have not really lost any weight in 6 weeks. I lost about 11 pounds after surgery but stalled at 233. I thought once I got my first fill (3cc) that I would start losing again… but so far nothing. I don’t feel any restriction and can still eat a plate full of food. I’m trying to make better food decisions but I don’t understand why I can still eat so much? I had 4cc in my band at my first adjustment but I wasn’t able to swallow water so the doctor took out 1cc. How can that be? I can’t get water down at 4cc but I can eat whatever at 3cc? What types of food are you eating when your band has little restriction? I have been working out… a lot. (For me). I started running/walking and I’m doing 3-5 miles 2-3 times a week and on the days I don’t run I work out on my stayball and play Wii sports. I also got one of those Nike Fuel bands to help track my activity level and I know that I’m being active… feel totally disappointed right now. Need help
  2. I'm getting close to the "normal" food stage and need to go shopping this weekend. What are you buying at the store? What brands?

    What's On Your Grocery List?

Thanks for all the advice. I picked up some turkey meatballs, turkey pepperonis and my usuals. I keep trying the greek yogurt but I just can't stand it. The only kind I could actually eat was chobani honey but I had to put extra honey in it just to get it down, I think that defeated the purpose though. I need to find some new foods. I tried the turkey pepperoni chips, and they were pretty good. I dipped mine in Boursin Light Cheese. I also have been making a lot fo Kale, which is really good but I'm afraid that wont work once I get my first fill. Thanks again for all the suggestions. Keep'em coming if you have new/more ideas.
  4. Today is 2 weeks post op for me. I have lost 11 pounds since surgery, 24 pounds since my pre-op diet and 30 pounds since I started on my journey! Overall I am feeling great. I still have some soreness in my side where my port site is, it seems to get worse with the more I push myself but I guess that is just the muscle healing. 5. My name is Sarah and I was banded on 3/27/12. I am currently 12 days post op. I'm 27, 5'9" and weighed 263 at the start of this process. I weighed 236 at my last weigh in. I'm not feeling any restriction at all at this point. I knew it would be hard but I want to eat just like I always have. I'm eating fairly normal foods and have not had any stuck or pbing episodes. I can't wait for my first fill so that it won't be all on me… Right now I'm getting by on will power but it's difficult. I'm supposed to be in the liquid stage still but I was starving all the time. I've progressed to mushy and some normal food. I started a blog as well.. Please take a look and offer comments or questions!! http://sarahclover7.blogspot.com/

    Liquid Pain Medication

I had hydrocodone (Liquid) but I could only take it for the two days after surgery it made me way too tired and loopy. I took liquid childrens tylenol after that. It was enough to deal with the pain. Check out my blog for more information on my Lapband Journey: http://sarahclover7.blogspot.com/
  7. I put a post out to my friends and family via Facebook initially when I was considering the surgery. I of course got a lot of feedback. No one said they thought it was good idea, everyone said that I could do it on my own, or that I didn’t need surgery. Most of them didn’t know that I was at risk for a heart attack, had high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. All they knew was that I was “big”. After I was approved for surgery I told everyone that I was having it. I got a lot of supportive comments but I also got several private messages about why I was doing it or people offering to help me lose weight without the surgery. I’ve been strong since then and very open. At this point I would just tell someone to kiss my ass if they have something bad to say. They don’t know you and they don’t know what you’ve been through. Being fat is something that a skinny person will never understand unless they have been there… Check out my blog for more information on my Lapband Journey: http://sarahclover7.blogspot.com/
  8. I had a hernia repair also and I was banded on the same day as you!! Around day 6 I had a super burning sensation at my port site and it was very painful but it went away two days later. I have two little ones and I had over done it with them the day before. My doctor also told me that I would have more pain in my chest because of the hernia repair, and I did. It sounds like you popped a stitch but from what I understand the stitches are just a formality, everything is probably fine but as always just check with your doctor. I thought I pulled my port out of place when I was getting that burning sensation but the doctor said it was just the healing process and the hooks in the back of the port moving as I move. 9. I bought a special cup to take with me everywhere, it holds 16 ounces. It’s portable and fits in my car cup holder. I know if I get 4 of those down a day them I’m okay. I also can mix the Crystal Light packets in my cup and it makes it so much easier to get all my water in when it tastes good. I’m two weeks post op and have noticed on the days that I don’t get my water in I start to feel lightheaded or breakout into a cold sweat. Do what you have to do to get that water in, it also helps with digestion. Check out my blog for more information on my Lapband Journey: http://sarahclover7.blogspot.com/
  10. My doctor gave me a list of things that are “Predictors of Success” basically they are things that people who have been successful did during their journey. Regular Physical Activity food Journaling Regular Office Visits Use your bands website Follow up with your Dietitian I’m only two weeks post op and I have already found that if I don’t food journal that I will over eat or eat too many calories without even knowing it. Sometime things that seem good for us are really high in calories. I would journal everything!! Make sure you get all your Protein and that you don’t go over your calories for the day. I’m supposed to have 80 grams of protein and keep my calories between 800-1200. I would also make sure that you are exercising every day even if it’s only for a short time. 11. I knew that was going to be an issue so I tried to plan ahead. My doctor asked that you stop all meds for the day before and the next few days you might not be able to get a pill down, if that is what you are using. I had the depo provera shot which lasts 3 months. I got it about 30 days before surgery so that I wouldnt have a gap in my protection. I know my doctor didnt want me getting the shot much closer to surgery though. Good luck! (I got pregnant with my 2nd child on the nuva ring... btw)
