    Sensitivity

Just the cold for me! OH....maybe that's just the loss of insulation - LOL. Sometimes I get a little sensitive to people that irritate me... Sorry...Long day at work and I'm a little punchy. I can honestly say I don't seem to have any types of irritation like you are describing.
  2. I would think you could take the Bandaids off. I went home with just the steristrips and they came off within about 2 days or so. :-D

    Introduction (New Member)

Hiya Tammie! Congrats to you on your revision - I think you'll be pleased! Good luck and keep us posted!
  4. Counting down the days to the weekend and praying for GOOD weather!!

  5. Breathe!! Remember (or even write down) all the reasons you really want (or need) this surgery. Then breathe again. Someone from another post said, not to worry about dying that it would be "bad for business." I had to laugh at that, but seriously...trust in your surgeon and your choice to better your life! THEN BREATHE again! It's ok and natural to be nervous, excited and every other emotion under the sun, but when it's all said and done and you get through your good and (and tougher) days you'll be so happy that you did this. God Speed for your recovery and keep us posted!

  8. I finally got to use this joke, yesterday (with my family) since I went to church with my mom. Afterward, at lunch with the family, there were so many "spin-off" jokes about the bread and wine at Communion we just couldn't stop the laughter!! Just had to share!
  9. Nice start to documenting your journey, Sharon. You are so lucky that swallow test was painless for you - the drink made me YAK! Thanks for sharing!!

    What's Not Normal?

I had 13 days off before going back to work. I know a lot of people here go back much faster than that and while I'd say I had an "easy" recovery with next to NO complications, my mind, body and soul appreciated the time off for recovery. Good luck!!

    Nausea

I'd almost still lean towards acid reflux. It doesn't always have to FEEL like heartburn. Sometimes, just excess gurgling & nausea can be caused by reflux. Just my 2-cents. Hope you get some relief!!

    Look At My...

I remember being THAT excited! Good for you. A great frame of mind will help you in all stages of recovery!!

    Emotional?

It's quite normal. Getting into a regular routine will help, get you Vitamins in - they are very important for your mental well-being as well as physical well-being. And get out and walk or do gentle exercises as much as you can. The Serotonin that your brain releases will mimic what any prescription can do for you. It'll get better! :-D

    Protein After Surgery

My NUT said, shoot for 50gm by the end of 4 weeks post op. Some people really need to work up to it. After that she said to shoot for 60-80gms. At 6 weeks I get around 90 per day. I believe the idea is, after we are completely re-acclimated to "real" food again, we should be able to get the majority of our Protein from the foods we eat and just supplement with shakes or whatever. I have a post-op nutrition class next Wednesday so if I find out more/better info, I'll pass it on! But I agree with PDXman - make sure to ask your NUT.

    Immediately After Surgery

Just like 100%Sleeved said, everyone tolerates pain differently. And it's very difficult to describe discomfort. I tend to come out of anesthesia slowly, and on top of that I was nauseous so they gave me meds for that (which knock me out). Between those two things I don't think I really woke up until the next day. But that first night I had quite a bit of discomfort with the gas pain in me. You "know" about the gas, but you don't realize that it crawls into every part of your body it can (i.e. up into your clavicle area, shoulders, around your neck, etc). This was the worst part for me, since I was SO nauseous, I couldn't get up and walk - WHICH IS SO VERY IMPORTANT!! That first night was the first and last time I thought I had made a horrible mistake; that I was going to be one of those "small percentage" people for which this goes terribly wrong. By the next morning I was a new person. Once the nausea was under control I walked- without fail, every 2 hours for at least 15-20 minutes around the clock. The gas pain went away and I felt like a million bucks. Some people will say the gas didn't bother them much, some will say by day two they never took another pain pill. It really is different for all. Best wishes to you and I'll pray you have a speedy recovery.
  21. I told my husband.....If I die during surgery, KNOW that I died happy attempting to give myself a new and better life. One way or the other, I would get it!!

    Pissed Off And Frustrated

Weeks 2 and 3 are FAMOUS for stalls. Your body is in complete and utter shock. 12 pounds in 3 weeks is about 4 pounds per week. Your body is thinking - WHOA! What the heck is going on here???? I'm holding on to my storage just in case we don't eat again for a while!!! Seriously. Give it some time. Make sure you are getting your protein and water in you, and you will lose weight. You've had 85% of your stomach cut out of your body. You WILL lose weight. P.S....food for thought....when was the last time you followed a diet that allowed you to lose either 10 pounds in 1 week or 4 pounds per week on average??? Don't worry. Almost everyone goes through this and you are not alone!

    Little Changes

Oh yes!! The non-swelling of the calves, ankles and feet is SOOO nice! Being able to tie my shoes without being out of breath or having my face turn red is on of my favs! I have to say, it's been a little difficult adjusting to the lack of padding on my behind! Seriously, I've been bike riding for years (20-35 miles) and usually after my 3rd or 4th ride I've toughened up, but NOT YET. And today, I sit all day in a meeting (literally 8:30-3) and my butt is killing me. NO I do not want the padding back, but I'm noticing its absence!! LOL
