    Reflux

I'm just throwing suggestions....did you try some new foods, new quantities or larger bites/speed when eating? I hope it gets better for you. If you don't take one already, an acid reducer will help. I swear by Nexium.

    Let Me Get This Straight...

Your body will go through many many periods of adjustment. Mostly it just takes time, patience and faith in the process to see those numbers move again. On the other hand, many people believe if you change what you are eating, the amount you are eating or different combinations of foods (upping carbs, fats &/or protein) can shake up your system enough to let go of weight and get you out of a stall. Others will tell you it doesn't matter or that you just need to up your exercise. It really is very individualized! Congrats on your surgery. Follow your doctor's plan and feel free to not move through the food phases too quickly. You'll do great!

    I Am Shrinking... Literally!

Oh yeah. Foot shrinkage is very typical. I went from a wide-width to a normal and down a full size. :-D
  17. I was not required to follow a liquid diet before surgery. My surgeon's office only requires no carbs, no sugars, and 3-4 ounces of meat per day for 10 days preceding the surgery. They say it's to shrink the liver so it's not in the way for surgery and gets your body in the right "frame of mind" for recovery. I lost like 4 pounds in those 10 days. Now. Here's the thing for me (personally). I was one of the "close" ones, as in, I "just" qualified for the surgery. Had I lost much more than that, I would have become ineligible. So, I did the no carbs, no sugar and all the meat that I wanted. This was under the advice of the surgical/registered nurse. To which she explained the sugars/carbs affect the liver the fat of the meat would not (in the time-period given). Good luck and keep us posted!
  18. Cannot tell a lie. I've been on a road trip from Minnesota to Wisconsin to Illinois to Indiana then finally home to Michigan. It's been FIVE days of driving, fast food and hotels. Now that I'm home I'm scared to step on the scale!!

  19. I flew from Michigan to Minnesota this past week and after my X-ray, they took me aside and the attendant, very professionally and appropriately used her palm to search my abdominal area. Now I know that anyone for any number of reasons can be searched after being scanned but I couldn't help but wonder to what degree do these machines X-Ray you and did they see something "weird" (like most of my stomach missing) or something that prompted the mini search. I was not offended nor am I paranoid; really more curious than anything. Anyone "professional" flyers or work at airports that have a guess, or do you think it truly was just random? If I hadn't had surgery I wouldn't have thought anything of it at all, but now post surgery things make me go... hmmmm?. The best part was that I wasn't anxiety ridden over the idea of someone touching my abdominal area and thinking that oh gosh, they are going to feel all of my fat rolls, since I hardly have any anymore!! Hahaha!!

Too funny, Dorrie! By the way, I like your new Avitar. I've been off the forum recently so maybe you changed it a while ago and I never noticed, but it's a great pic!

    Do You Drink Milk?

Milk is good for you! Remember those sugars are naturally occurring sugars (it not like you are eating a candy bar every night), and your body does require carbs to function. Everything in modration will help keep everything in balance. You are lucky you can drink milk at all- a lot of people become intolerant of milk (I'm super glad I'm not one of them, though). One glass of milk at night is not going to sabotage your surgery. The fact that you are so aware of what you are eating and what is in the food will only help ensure your success! Keep up the great work!

David Smith ("650 Lb. Virgin") On Today Show

The concept of really being READY for such a dramatic weight loss and way of life is critical! I watched my sister go through WLS and 3 years later hasn't made significant progress. She's back to her pre-surgery justifications for eating and lack of exercise. And now, while I know she loves me and supports me, is jealous of my success- which is furthing her self-sabotaging behavior. So I love and understand when David's girlfriend says, "this is the moment I've been waiting for." in the meantime I'm standing by my sister, but I can't wait for the moment that she's really ready!
  24. Leaving Michigan for a few days to pick up a car that the hubby bought in Minneapolis. Mall of America - here I come!
