Experienced Sleevers, I Need To Know...
MG in SD replied to buforu21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I am just over 4 months out and I am feeling pretty normal. I can eat a little bit more, I can have raw veggies, i work out pretty hard. My surgeon told me not to drink for a year, but whatevs, I drink occasionally on the weekends with no problems. I have learned to just share a small appetizer if I go out to eat or get a cup of soup. I am not just eating tablespoons of mushy junk. I am eating real food. I think you just need to hang in there, I am already getting used to how much I can eat. If I eat too fast or too much I get a tightness in my chest or have to burp alot, but that is easily avoided by just knowing my limits and sticking to it. Keep positive, because month four is good. -
I was allowed salad at 3 months, and I have been eating them alot lately. I am four months out as of today. I really can only eat a handful of spinach and 3-4 cut up grape tomatoes, because I have to throw chicken and reduced fat feta on top. But it is mmm-mmm good!

You will be ok. It's only been a couple of weeks since surgery for you and things will start moving. I tried to keep away from the scale as much as I could the first few weeks. At first, you are bloated from surgical gasses, then your body acclamates, and then you lose! Stay positive, it works. I promise.

So I am almost 4 months out and I am feeling good! Just wanted to share a quick before and after with my 70 lb loss. Still have a long ways to go, but you have to Celebrate the small victories. For all of those considering the surgery, good luck. I am super happy thus far!

May Sleevers How Much Have You Lost So Far?
MG in SD replied to Preacher's Wife's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
yeah, this is the gift that keeps on giving so far! Surgery May 14, so 3.5 months out and down 70 lbs. Looking forward to more! -
Yeah, I'm 3.5 months out and down 70 lbs, but the hair lost started about 3 weeks ago. It's happened to me before on Optifast when I lost over 100 lbs. I tried taking Biotin 3 mos before surgery and still take it. I take all of my Vitamins and always drink 2 Protein shakes a day, each with 32 grams of protein. Still I am losing such a shocking amount of hair that there is thinning on my temples. Thankfully no one can tell because the way my hair falls when I part it. My surgeons says its inevitable and should stop by 6 mos post op. he said your hair goes in "resting phase" because of the trauma of surgery and rapid weight loss. He said no need for concern unless it continues past 6 months which could indicate a deficiency of some kind. Sucks bad though. Sent from my iPhone using VST

Oops, wasn't done. And it's pretty good, mellow taste, not too sweet or mineral tasting. Sent from my iPhone using VST -

So Friday afternoon I ate some Pirate's Booty Snacks. I ate more than normal, they went down easy and tasted great. Two hours later I started to feel nauseous and thus began the worst night ever. I had the worst runs with alternating bouts of nausea that lasted the entire night through. Apparently there is early and late dumping. Late dumping hits 2-3 hours after eating and is usually from too much carbs. The next day my mom brought me immodium and all I could keep down was Water. Today I feel human again and I guess the only upside is I loss 7 lbs in 2 days. Moral of the story, be careful! Wouldn't wish what I just went thru on anyone! Sent from my iPhone using VST

Omg Dumping Syndrome Can Happen
MG in SD replied to MG in SD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Apparently it's where food empties to fast into the small intestine and it can be caused by too much sugar or carbs. Basically not following the rules. Sent from my iPhone using VST -

May Sleever Role Call- Where U At?
MG in SD replied to MG in SD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is awesome! I am feeling so much better too. I used to get winded after a flight or two of stairs. I guess having 60lbs off your back helps! -
Holy crap! So funny! No disrespect taken! It's true.

It's not that bad. Sucks right when you wake up, but they give you pain killers and the stuff they have in the hospital rocks. The first day is the worst and each day it improves. I stopped taking anything for pain by day 3. Walk as much as you can, it definitley makes you feel better. It's normal to obsess about this, but you will be fine. Good luck!

Just Joined And Wanted To Say Hi:)
MG in SD replied to smitten4glitter's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yeah I did the sleeve because I didn't like the malabsorption part of the bypass and the higher risks of bypass. I decided against the band because I didn't want a foreign body in me for life that has a port under your skin that you have to fill with solution. That part wierded me out. -

I yo-yo dieted for years before I finally made the leap. I tried optifast, medifast, shots in the bum, weight watchers, LA weight loss, Atkins.... All of which helped me to lose weigh, I even lost over 100 lbs 3 different times. I also gained it back every time. I went to the initial surgery seminar and heard about the three options, and to me the sleeve made the most sense. Now I am three months post op and I have to go to these support groups with people who had any of the 3 surgeries once a month at the hospital where I had my surgery. I am losing just as fast, if not faster, then some of the people who had the bypass. I also hear them talk about crazy stuff like dumping syndrome, and vomitting, and not being able to eat all types of foods. Now, I know everyone is different, but so far my sleeve has been great. You have to do what is right for you, but I wish I would have done it sooner and I have no regrets. Good luck! -
I Got My Surgery Date Today! :)
MG in SD replied to going_down's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congrats! I remember that day myself and I had to wait almost a year to get it. You are going to obsess over the surgery between now and then, but at least you have a date now! I am 3 months and 3 days in and down 61 lbs. It is worth it! -

Favorite thing: I literally can't overeat. Love that. Least favorite thing: Not being able to drink while I am eating. I don't think the waitress will ever get used to that. -

If You Had The Choice - Would You Do It Again?
MG in SD replied to Babysteppin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think I made the right choice and would make it again. I am steadily losing, and even if I only average 2 lbs a week now that the things have regulated a bit, it is still worth it. Yesterday was 3 months for me and I am down 61 lbs. I am more active, more in control, and happier. -
When Did U Feel 100%
MG in SD replied to TheNewSusie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a week shy of 3 months out and I feel pretty much normal. I can sleep on my stomach, I can do crunches when I work out, I had an alcoholic ( low cal) drink, and I can eat a little bit more. Not a lot, but more than 2 tbsp like in the beginning. I'm still steadily losing, some weeks better than others. I'm down 57 lbs now and it's all been worth it. Hang in there! Yeah Skinny Cow are good. Weight Watchers also makes mini cones with 75 calories, or chocolate raspberry pops with 45 calories. Even a sugar free popsicle for 10 calories will sometimes satisfy the craving. I have done diets in the past where I completey banned certain things from my life, and then when I lost weight I craved those things so badly I would go berserk. So now that I am in this I want a lifestyle change that will stick. That includes learning how to deal with sweet treats in a healthy way, and these products have helped me to do this. That and fruit. Love me some mango!!
