I'm back from Nashville and thing are going down better. I tried what Lisa suggested to take a few minutes and not eat as soon as my food was brought out and just look at it and it's helped me slow down. Vlynn, I can do crunchy really easy, I'll keep that in mind this week in case I have anymore too tight days AND I'm taking everything small and slow. I wish I could have been there to meet you guys. Hopefully, my world will slow down a little as I get back into the swing of life here with Gussy by myself.

It's been about a week since my fill. I appreciate all the advice, I know y'all are just looking out for me. Don't worry about offending me, I figure that collectively, we're pretty darn smart! I wouldn't post about stuff if I wasn't a little unnerved by it. I've had no trouble today. I had a hunk of grilled turkey breast for lunch. I've noticed that whenever I have a hot lunch and breakfast, there's not trouble. Plus I ate as soon as I came in from mowing and I, myself, was hot too. I'm going to give it a little more time over the weekend and see if it'll get better. I've been chewing 50 times instead of the 30 and that seems to help too. It's something I can live with at the moment and I hate to think I might not tolerate a fill. I just need to slow down, that's been the hardest part for me. Thanks for caring!

The hot liquids aren't working. I get cottage chese hung, so I guess I'll be eating grits or cream of wheat at lunch and breakfast. We're leaving Friday morning for Nashville to meet my brother there and he's picking up Mom. Lisa I hope it's not to annoying for ya. Y'all hang in there!

I don't think I'll be able to make it tomorrow. I have a last minute meeting to be at and I'm just plain pooped. I've been running all over TXARK the past three days, have to pack to get ready to take Mom to Nashville, TN. Not to mention Gus has decided against sleep this week. Still having trouble at Breakfast and Lunch with swallowing, but I'm trying hot liquids before meals to see if it helps. I'll let ya know. Go cmoomoos!

Ja9va - You're probably right and it's not as bad a gastric patients. My Doc, therapists, and nutritionist just preach to the protein every time I see them! Faith - I'm hate to hear about your hair. I wish there was something I could do to help. Good work everyone!
-
Good job Holli! The protein is stressed by my doc's nutrionist so that we don't get sick and lose hair or have liver problems. She suggests 40-60grams after surgery.
-
I'm doing okay, just realizing what restriction is and trying to remind myself that my eyes are bigger than my stomach now! The nutritionist got back to me and told me that 1/2 cup is plenty now and I'm glad because that's the most I can hold. It's weirding my out a little, how little I can eat now. In a good way though!

Go Susan! I can't wait until I'm where you are!

Mom's still here. I didn't have any trouble today except at lunch time (not as bad as yesterday.) As the day goes on, the swallowing gets easier. I think in a couple of days I'll not have much trouble. I'm feeling slightly tired today, but I think it's because I did get enough protein yesterday. I'm feeling better this evening. I was able to go to dinner after a movie and did just fine. I ate a little less than half a mini-plate at Bryce's and brought the rest home to Mom. I tried out a food log on my_calorie_counter.com and it's helping me know when I need to take in more calories and food. If any of y'all are using them, let me know, this one is okay but not awesome because it doesn't show totals. I think Dr. H was just crazy busy and I'm shy until I have a few conversations with someone. He answered all three questions I came prepared with. I know every seat in the office was full when I first came in. I still am not 100% sure I'll be there on Thursday, but I'll do my best!
-
Okay, here's a question for you guys. I'm supposed to go back to solids today and my hubby is taking me out tonight. We're not sure if we're going out to dinner because I'm nervous. If I am feeling some restriction, can I eat chicken or meat? Should I take it slow the first couple of days? Also, am I at the point to where I eat that half cup or less now?
-
Okay I have real restriction today after that crazy fill. I just took two tbsps of cottage cheese and it got stuck! AND I'm FULL! OMG!

He never asked how I was doing, just came in and got right on the fill. He told me before the fill that I probably wouldn't be able to tell that I'd had one, but that they have had a few patients that have lost 100lbs on one fill. That's why I was caught off guard when it hurt. He just said that this doesn't happen on first fills often when I asked if it was a rar occurance. I've felt fine all day, but I've noticed I can only eat a little before I feel full. I took a nap this evening and when I got up I took two bites of cottage cheese and got stuck. I think I will have to drink something hot from now on before meals. I tried to call Amy and ask how much I'm supposed to eat now, but I can literally only take about 1/2 cup now rather than the one cup I was eating before. She hasn't had a chance to call me back yet. I didn't think I get to that point so quick. I don't know if I should be happy or annoyed. I think this is what I paid for, but I'm a little baffeled as to how I'm going to take in enough protein and calories. I'm a little tired too. I've probably had less than 800 in all today and maybe 20 grams of protein...I'm stuffed!

Suzzzie - at least if you're water logged, you're not hungry! Good Luck with that fill. I'm feeling restriciton tonight, even if I take a big sip of water, but at least that alien popping out of my chest feeling left me! I guess I get to be the lone weirdo that this has happened to on their first fill! WOOHOO! Y'all hang in there!

I got my first fill today in a 10cc band of 1.5cc's and it was too much and the doc had to take some out. I forgot to ask how much though. I did not vomit, but I felt like it when I took a sip of water and I felt like that monster from the movie "Alien" was trying to come out my chest too! My doc said it doesn't happen much on the first fill though.
-
Anyone else experienced this too????? I went for my first fill. The doc said he put in 1.5 cc's like he does for everyone. That part was easy. Then he gave me a sip of water and I thought I was having a heart attack, it hurt so bad. He gave me a pb cracker and told me to eat it in 5 minutes in the waiting room and see how I felt. I could barely take a nibble I hurt so bad. I waited 15 minutes and asked the nuse when this pain would go away, she said she thought they'd put to much in and called the doc. He took some out and I immediately felt better! He said that this was actually good because it would take less fills to help me lose the weight! He also said this was pretty unusual on the 1st fill! This was the roughest part so far of this experience, but it's been worth it even if I had to hurt really bad for a few minutes today. I've lost 40 lbs and 3 sizes so far and it's only been 5 1/2 weeks!
-
Oh yeah...I'm down 2 sizes and 3 lbs from the weight I was when I married! Hooray!
-
I had a rough first fill. Dr. H said he put in 1.5-1.7 cc's. That all went fine...then he gave me the water to sip and it went down and got stuck. I asked if it should already hurt and he said I should feel something and gave me the cracker and told me to take 5 minutes and eat it. By the time I got into the waiting room, I was hurting and sick to my stomach BAD. I sat there and nibbled on the cracker for 15 minutes and it got worse and worse. The pain was a 7 on a 1-10 scale. I asked the nurse how long I had to wait to quit hurting and they took me back to have a little taken out. I thought I would puke on him while he did it, but as soon as I stood up I felt MUCH better. He said they don't see this on the first fill often, but it happens. He also said that I should lose my weight on less fills. At least now I know what too tight feels like! Othe than that I'm okay, just very FULL!

It was probably the bread, sunlight. They told me to make sure I at only toasted bread, and when I have snuck a plain piece it has made me uncomfortable.

I live in Arkansas and I'm a patient of Dr. Hekier's and have been banded a little over a month and my experience so far as been fantastic. You can see from my signature that everything is moving along. Dr. Hekier and Dr. Keilin were fantastic and it's easy to get any questions answered before and after surgery. The support provided by their staff is great! If you want to read posts from their Texarkana patients or just talk to them look for Texarkana Bandsters in the Texas thread.

When I had a c-section a couple of years ago, my disolveable stitches stuck out at the ends like y'all's are. My Doc too tweezers and pulled them out at my 6 week check up. You might call your docs and see if it okay to do that too!
-
Welcome cmoomoos. I'll be getting my 1st fill on Thursday too. Good Luck! It was good seeing you too Sharon. I appreciate all you patience with me and my questions! The Myoplex comes in about the same flavors as slime fast. You can find it sometimes at walmart and target.

:help:My cycles have been like clockwork before surgery (6/6/07) but I started the day of surgery (a week early) and had 7 days worth of bleeding, stopped for 2 weeks and have started again (a week early), this time 7+ days! I am on birth control but my body is not follwoing it cycle! I know fat and hormones all work together and it's probably because I've lost 35lbs in a month, my doc said I could do this for 6 months! Anbody else going/been through this???? Should I just plan on bleeding (a LOT) all the time or whenever my body feels like? HELP!

Yikes! My Mom had a fibroid too, but has always had trouble. Luckily I've had none up 'til now. I'll just hang in there and if it doesn't get any better in a couple of months I'll go see my gyno. I have an appointment with my lap band doc on Thursday and I will be asking him about it and when should I get worried.

I will try to be at the luncheon if I can get childcare. There's a TXARKA Meeting tomorrow might at the YWCA, right? I'm just hanging out and waiting for that first fill. My appointment isn't until 2pm, can I eat before? Or does the liquid diet start after the fill?
