my surgeon wants me to have the bypass instead of the lapband
lo2us replied to andielmt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here's something for you to think about...my doctor and his parnter will NOT preform Gastric By-pass. You can check out their website to see why. Lap Band Surgery Texarkana- Serving Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana My BMI was 52 when I had my surgery in June. I have already lost 50lbs and even if it's all I lose (which I seriously doubt) I'm okay with it. I feel wonderful and it's getting better each day. Go with you gut. You're the only one who will have to live and cope with you decision in the end. Good Luck! -
I'm doing okay. I struggled slightly yesterday. I'm going to wait until the end of this week and see if my band gets any looser since it was the and of week 3 after the 1st fill that I was able to eat again. I'm only taking in 2 or 3 bites at a time too. liquids are going down more easily the past couple of days. If I'm still frustraited at the end of this week, I will call on Friday. My hair is not really falling out, it's just broke off. I had a haircut this weekend to remedey it. I learned that since I have naturally kinky/curly, very dry hair, that I may have been hurting it by washing it so much. My hairdresser told me to wet it and condition it every night, but only shampoo 2 times a week. I can tell a HUGE difference from trying this a few days! Remind me to tell y'all about my new size 6 jeans tomorrow. It's a hoot!

Here's something weird that's happening with my band. I'm on my 2nd fill, about 2 weeks in. I'm having a horrible time eating meat. I can. however, eat salad and roughage. If I eat them together, there's no problem. It like the meat just sits in my pouch, stuck...unless I eat salad with it. Weird, huh?

Okay, I'm getting a little nervous because I've thrown up 3 times since I had that fill last week. 2 times we nothing much, but last night has me worried. I've eaten the correct things and chewed well. My band got extremly tight after I threw up and was cranky when I tried to drink hot cider. I switched to hot chocolate and that helped. It was somewhat tight this morning when I had my coffee and was trying to complain, but after I got some down it seems to be relaxed now this morning. Is throwing up something I should call about? The bright side is I've gone down another pants size....now I'm 4 sizes smaller than I was in May! 2 more and I will be at the smallest I've ever been my adult life! Sharon, just let me know if you need anything. Everybody else, hang in there.

Dr. H told me to take the biotin because my hair is breaking off. I've been blessed to have a lot of healthy hair my whole life and this is bothering me. I hope it helps. I was getting the minimum of protein and he told me that since I was feeling bad, that I must be one of those folks that needs the higher amount and to take the protein supplement and see if I felt better. My next appointment is in October I think. I had a day yesterday when nothing went down at all. Hardly even water. The day before I could eat pretty well. So far my yogurt is a hung for a few seconds and drop through. I hope it gets better.

Went to water aerobic class last night and had a great suprise. A friend of mine who goes to class with me had lap band in MX in October. She brought me her now too big clothes in my now smaller size! I'm so excited! That's WAY better than actually going shopping! I received my Syntax Nectar protein supplement from bariatric advantage yesterday. I ordered the cherry flavor. It's engineered to be taken with 8-16 oz of H2O or eaten like pixie sticks. There's 23g protein in each serving. It's great as a candy, but has that funky protein supplement odor when taken with water. I find it's MUCH easier to get down than the shakes if you try not inhale while drinking. I'd compare it to a stinky Kool-aid. Not bad. The biotin is on back order and due in by 9/1. I'll let you know if it works too.

What is it made of? -
Y'all be careful and wash those hands. Stomach virus is already going around our high school and middle school students!

The papya is a chewable tablet that tastes kindda like a pink grapfruit. Lisa, it's Water aerobics for me tonight, and maybe some walking if there's time. Hang in there everybody!
-
The papaya enzyme is at GNC, it helps with nausea too. Sipping something hot all day long is helping me. I was getting tight even when I drank cold water last week. The hot stuff is helping lots now. Trying to relax is helping too.

GO Suzzie! I'm going through the exact same thing with my closet! I feel like I've been shopping, only it's so much better because I haven't spent money!

Hope y'all have faired well today. Sunlight, I've found that the South Beach ceral bars that have 10g of protein help me a LOT when I can't fin the right things to eat. You can find them with the other cereal bars. They use to make some that had more protein than that, but I can't find them any more. They were a meal replacement bar. New York is wonderful. Try to see a play on broadway if you can, there's nothing more entertaining in my experience. The Metropolitan Museum of Art is great too. You can see ancient art there. I may be a little biased since that's what I teach. Also, do not miss the Statue of Liberty and Staton Island. GOod Luck! THank you for the Gus Kudos, we're so proud! He's yet to do it at home, only at the babysitters, but we're working on it!

I'm restricted alright. Enough said. I can feel water in my stoma for like a hour after I drink it. Geez, there's not joy in eating any more! YEAH! :huggie: Gus used the potty for the first time on Thursday, we've been celebrating. Y'all hang in there.

Lisa - I am so sorry. Let us know if we can do anything. THJ - Hang in there! I had an okay day yesterday with this new fill. I did have mashed potatoes and soft roast beef for lunch. Got home made pot roast and couldn't eat more than 3 bites. I had a carnation instant breakfast when I finished sliming. Again, I think I'm eating too fast. Gonna practice Lisa's sit and look at your food mantra again. I think I'm going to have to sip something hot before meals every time I get a fill for the first couple of weeks. I think that's why lunch went well yesterday, I drank coffe all morning. I did break over and order the nectar (pixie stick/juice) protein supplement and some biotin from the noscales site yesterday... just in case I am to only have a few bites at a time. I've already lost a 1 lb from Monday, almost 2. I'm getting full just from drinking water too. Didn't mean to be lon winded.

Welcome TP! Good luck on this journey. I think the post op diet has been the hardest part so far because it takes TRUE will power! You'll be amazed at how relieved you will be when you wake up from surgery. I did really loose mushies most of the day yesterday. I'm going to try to eat some mashed potatoes and a slice of soft turkey and a little gravy for lunch. I'm scared though, because mashed sweet potatoes made me a little ill last night. I am filling up on a LOT less. just ot eat the 1/2 cup is stuffing me. Is it okay to eat less than that, especially when I start the protein supplement?

Alrighty, guess what nice thing happened when I went to get my fill yesterday, Sugarbear met me there. How nice! I was nervous too and talking to her.really helped ease my anxiety I think Dr. H & K should hire her as their office cheerleader! Thank you, Sharon! I'm only down 45lbs instead on the 50! Gus has been jumping on my scales at home and must have mal-adjusted them. The fill wasn't near as bad as the first. Though when I got home, I tried to make a delicious myoplex shake and just licked the spoon and got stuck! AHHH! I managed to drink some tomato soup after an hour and half of slimming. Things are going slowly this morning with that myoplex, but I'm taking everything REALLY easy. Dr. H told me that I could do mushies today, but I'm going to wait until tomorrow to be safe. He also recommended the biotin too. So I'll be ordering that and a protein supplement off their site. I'll let you know how they work!

I got caught off guard this monring... I'm FINALLY down 50lbs. It's like I dropped the last few in the past couple of days! I'm curious to see if I get that fill now or not. I'll update y'all tomorrow night. I hope everyone is doing well. Sugarbear, I can keep one of the chickens off the truck this time if you need your mower protected. I think that Helen must have kept the gremlins off it at night, because I had no trouble while she was presiding over it.

Hey y'all. Been mega busy this week and haven't had time to check in for a while. I hope everyone's okay! I'm starting to feel run down and very tired. Probably the worst I've felt since post op. I know I have gotten in enough protein. Anyone else experience anything like this? I go for my 2nd fill on Monday afternoon and plan on discussing it with the doc.
-
I feel really run down and tired today. The worst since surgery. I thought I've been getting enough protein but maybe not. I will try the biotin. I think I see Dr. K on Monday and I'll ask her about it or if she can check my vitamin levels. I've not had a chance to meet her yet. I KNOW I haven't been eating enough fruits and veggies. I appreciate all the condolences for Helen. I know she's up in chicken heaven sitting on her very own John Deer. Heck, maybe she could even drive one up there all by herself! Congratulation THJ. Just hang in there the next few days!
-
Have any of you tried the suppliments from the docs? My hair is getting thin and I think I may order some. There some that are supposed to be taken like pixie sticks or mixed with liquid that sound good. I get a fill on Monday at 4:15. Hopefully, all will go smoothly. Right now I'm going to take Gus and go watch our football scrimmage tonight, if we can stand the heat. Unless it rains before we get out of the house!

ok....I CAN'T believe nobody's posted today....is there something wrong with the site??????
-
I'm pooped. I did enjoy the meeting last night too and I feel better about getting my 2nd fill on Monday too since I spoke with the nurse as well. I don't think it will be so traumatic this time. Did the W/A thing tonight we had a male instructor who kicked my butt. I doubt I'll be able to walk tomorrow, I'm already sore. I guess I won't be posting as much since I started back to work yesterday. I will sneak a peak in the mornings during my conference period. Y'all hang in there. Oh yeah, thank you to all the folks who spoke last night, giving a testimonial, it really helps keep me motivated to hear success stories along this journey. Y'all look fabulous!

HOw/when did you find out that your band is slanted, Stefanie?
-
I got the letter yesterday. Hubby fogot to pick up mail! Helen the chicken bit the dust yesterday. Now I'm down to just one kitty. She seems to be pretty street-wise now and stays hidden most of the time unless called. I hope she makes it. She puts up a good show if she's scared, thus her name is Spitfire. Congratulations on the new bandsters and badsters to be. Is that meeting tomorrow?
