All Dr. Garcia's Sleeved Patients, Please Give Your Weightloss Amounts And Timeframes.....thanks!
jeffmanion replied to Diamondeyed's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I was sleeved by Dr. Garcia on May 15, 2012. Since surgery I've lost 132 pounds. I have not lost in about 4 months and its all due to me not exercising and not eating the right foods. I still have 30-40 more that I want to lose. At this point in my journey, I really have to work to lose the weight. Not like after surgery at all. The weight was coming off at a very fast pace. I am able to eat more and do get hungry now, not like it was after surgery. I have lost 5 pounds over the past week and a half...but I've cut to 1000 calories and have been working out like crazy. I refuse to settle for good enough and not great! -

I was sleeved a year ago on May 15...I've lost 130 pounds so far. It's a lot slower going now, but still slowly (very slowly) dropping. I now really have to watch what I eat, get my protein, drink water and exercise! -
My wife and I are both getting sleeved on May 15th. I have heard great things about the hospital, doctor and staff, but haven't heard much about the Marriott or things to do in Tijuana. Any suggestions or any feedback on the hotel? Is there anything to do there? Also, my biggest question...Are all the tv shows/stations in Spanish?

Hunger Hasn't Gone Away...why?

Me too -
Well, im setting here at Mi hospital in Tijuana watching the OKC Thunder vs LA Lakers basketball game. My wife and I got sleeved yesterday by Dr. Garcia. Our surgeries went great. The staff at the hospital are second to none. First class. We get to go back to the hotel tomorrow around 11am. We have never been treated as good as we are down here, at the hospital and the Marriott. The care that is given is so much better than anywhere we've ever been. It's unbelievable. It's very important to walk as soon as you can after surgery, this helps with gas pains. All of the doctors and nurses will stress this. It's also very important to follow and be strict on your pre op diet! The smaller your liver is, the easier it is for the doctors to do their thing without complications. Tijuana is a cool city, haven't seen any violence and have never felt scared for our safety. If you are considering going to Tijuana for your surgery, please know that it is safe and you will receive great care.

Are Any Of You Using A Doctor After Surgery?
jeffmanion replied to paigep's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I wouldn't worry about it. I was sleeved in Mexico on May 15th. I haven't seen my PCP since before I left. I dont think there is a need to follow up with one unless your having complications, then I'd just go to an ER. BTW-I've lost 82 pounds since May 1st without the help of follow up dr visits and NUT visits. I think it's just a way for the WL doctors to milk more money from WLS patients at bariatric clinics! -

I paid for the surgery with a cc. No problems. Good luck to everyone headed to Mexico or that have recently gone. I was sleeved on May 15th and including my pre-op diet, I've lost 82 pounds!!! -
Yep. We are the minority here for sure! Too bad we couldn't find a place with men to women ratios like this when I was single! Anyway, congrats to all the fellas that are sleeved and that are getting sleeved soon. Had mine done on 5/15/12 in Tijuana, Mexico. So far including pre-op diet I'm 42 pounds lighter! Also, if you are on MyFitnessPal, look me up and add me. Username is jeffmanion. If your not on MFP, then create an account and look me up! It's a great tracking and accountability tool.

So...preop Diet Tanked But Lost 5 Lbs.
jeffmanion replied to Patrick Curl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there with the pre op diet Patrick! I did a 2 week liquid diet with only clears for the last 3 days before surgery, it was tough. But, I stuck with it. I was 410 pounds when I started, 3 weeks out I'm almost to 370. It's worth it! I kept telling myself that I've had enough food in my lifetime to last 3 lifetimes! I also know that I'll be able to have my favorite foods again, just not the quantity. -
This Is Just So Frustrating! Doctor Selection....

You will not be disappointed with him, the hospital, the hotel or his staff. You will not be "hearded like cattle" either, lol. His coordinators will even visit you before and after while you are staying in the hotel. I had mine 5/15 and have had a perfect recovery! -

We went to www.ready4achange.com Alma was our coordinator. She was great! Even if you do not use that service, I encourage you to browse through the website. There are a ton of great things for you to look at and do research with. You can view several doctors and their credentials. Hope this helps -
This Is Just So Frustrating! Doctor Selection....

My wife and I were both sleeved on May 15th by Dr. Fernando Garcia in Tijuana. We were at Mi Doctors hospital and because we both had the surgery, our cost was $4800 a piece. That includes hospital stay (which was the best care I've ever had in a hospital), surgery (did not have ANY complications to date), hotel stay for 3 nights (Marriot was very nice and had great service) and transportation (the driver, Samual Jr, was right on time and a great dude). From what I have seen on this forum, everyone loves the doctor they chose. So what that tells me is that they are all good and are all qualified! So my advice is to choose one that you are most comfortable with, for whatever reason, and don't second guess your decision. I'm sure you will be in great hands wherever you go. It's an easy surgery to recover from. I went back to work 6 days after and could have gone back 3 days after. -

Made some egg salad yesterday. My wife and I tolerated it just fine. I've read that a lot of people have a hard time with them. We also made tuna salad with mayo. That went down great too. So far, I haven't had anything that didn't settle well. -

food is going great. We started our mushy stage a couple of days early, it was like a whole new world was opened. Lol. I am watching everyone on here that has a different diet plan, some go longer on liquids and some a shorter time. So my thought was, as long as my stomach can tolerate it, I'm moving on to mushy foods. So far, so good! Still losing weight, but feel much more satisfied. -

Thanks. I need more friends on there!

Remember, the reason for the pre Op diet is to shrink your liver, not just to lose weight. Just keep following your diet plan from your dr and everything will be fine. You'll have your surgery and be losing soon.
