MendyB replied to tanilya hamm's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are not alone! I have yet to tell anyone other than my mom, husband and best friend. I am also scared of others reactions but you have support. Stay positive and everything will be great! -
Stressed And Scared! Am I Doing The Right Thing?
MendyB replied to scalico's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stay strong and keep your head up!!! Being nervous is to be expected with any surgery. You have come too far to turn back now. You would have never made the first step if you really didn't want this. The horror stories come with any surgery. Most of the time the complications comes from not following the rules or having too high expectations. You can do this! Good luck. -
Wierd Question - Fake Nails, Remove Or Keep?
MendyB replied to Angela1234's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Being a surgical technologist, this is one of the most argued topics. Anesthesiologist seems to think polished fake nails interfers with the pulse ox readings. Some polish and make ups have metals in them that can cause burns or problems for the patient during surgery. There are alot of electricity, flammable material and anesthesia gases that could cause reactions so it is always best to sway on the side of caution. Clear nails are recommended on the index or middle finger. Fakes nails harbor high levels of bacteria so having no polish on these fingers just stays with guidelines of patients safety -
Thank you;) I can't wait to have a surgery date!!!! It's been a long journey. Just hoping I can post my surgery date soon;)

What an adventure this has been and it seems like all I've done is hurried up and wait since Novemeber. Now I'm waiting on insurance to respond for approval or denial. I was told Monday it was sent off and Tricare has a quick turn around. Then I get a confirmation email today that my package was "sitting" with a stack of 18 others waiting to be sent and how sorry they were for the delay. Is it just me being self centered or does it sound like the insurance department in the surgeons office needs a call. I realize people are busy but I've been with them since November and when you are there they want you to believe it is all about you and how important you are. now I feel like I'm just another person in a stack of papers. I'm ready to do this and now I'm just waiting, waiting & waiting

Tommorrow Is "b" Day Excited Nervous Scared !! :-/
MendyB replied to bigenuff's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I think it's pre surgery jitters. We are all in this together. Try to stay away from the negative on here. Remember there are more success stories than failures. Use the next 12 hrs before surgery to rest and stay positive. Try not to if, and, or but yourself. The more positive and relaxed you are the better the surgery will go. -
Tommorrow Is "b" Day Excited Nervous Scared !! :-/
MendyB replied to bigenuff's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey! Congrats! I think you should relax and enjoy the ride. You have came this far so the excitement is still there but the anxiety of surgery is setting in. You will do terrific pre, during and post op. You are ready for the change or you would have never taken the first step. Good luck and keep us updated -
Honey I know how you feel and believe me it is not easy to just wake up and feel better. Ive been battling depression since I was 18 and I'm 38. But I also need to add, I'm a medical professional and depression can set in after surgery. Anesthesia can cause post op depression sometimes in people. This might be from all the changes you have expierenced from your personal life to your physical appearance. It is okay to ask for help. Believe me that first step will make a world of difference. My primary care doctor explained to me last month that sometimes the physical changes, emotional changes and lifestyle change can make depression worse after surgery. You would think waking up to a new you would make everything brighter but change doesnt happen over night. So take a deep breath, relax and call your doctor. It is okay and make yourself smile again:)

I'm new to the site and thankful I found you!!!! I have Tricare North and I'm at 38 BMI with high blood pressure and depression. I just recently finished all my pre testing.. ie, psych eval, blood work, primary care doctors history and physical, surgical consult, seminar, documentation of physician supervise weight loss since 2005, upper GI and chest X-ray. The surgeons office notified me today my paperwork is being sent off. I'm scared to death they are going to deny me:-/ I know they would have never let me get this far if I didn't have some qualification but after reading different post I just got nervous they will not approve. Does anyone know how long it takes? Some have stated Tricare is really fast but having past dealings with them it varies! Does it sound like I will qualify??? Oh my I think I'm reading and over thinking this too much
